This Summer's Hottest Workout Songs

By , SparkPeople Blogger
Oooooh boy it is hot out there!  With temps in the mid-90s and humidity levels above 90% as well here in Cincinnati, it's a wonder I'm exercising at all—let alone doing it outside! Yet somehow, I'm not alone. In my neighborhood, the walkers, runners and cyclists aren't missing a beat.

Speaking of beats, updating my workout playlist with some new songs has made a big difference in my summer workout motivation. Even when you're doing the same old routine, a new set of tunes can help break up the monotony. And when you're lacking motivation, those upbeat songs can make all the difference in getting your sneakers on your feet and your feet out the door.

Here are some of the fun tracks that have been motivating my summer (2013) workouts during the dog days of summer.

(Links go to for mp3 purchases.)

Daft Punk ft. Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky

I actually love this cover of the song by an artist named George Barnett even better than the original!

Electric Guest – This Head I Hold

Fall Out Boy – My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)

Fitz & The Tantrums – Get Away

Fitz & The Tantrums – Out Of My League

Florence + The Machine – Shake It Out

Florence + The Machine – Spectrum (Calvin Harris Remix)

Imagine Dragons – Radioactive

Kelly Clarkson – People Like Us

Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton – Can't Hold Us

Mandisa – Overcomer

Mika – Live Your Life

Mike Posner – The Way It Used To Be

Passion Pit – Take A Walk

Robin Thicke ft. T.I. & Pharrell – Blurred Lines

How is Fun.'s "Carry On" not on every workout playlist ever? Especially with lines like "Let your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground..." and "My head is on fire, but my legs are fine... Nothing's gonna stop us now." Nothing will get me through a tough spot in a workout better. Report
I can't get enough of Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines!! Report
I'm older, so my favorites are older: Gloria Estefan, Manhattan Transfer, Maynard Ferguson, Van Morrison. Chase (Bill Chase's group) this morning, while riding my bike. "Good Morning" by Mandisa is still one of my favorites to get me moving, ever since it came out last summer. Report
