See More: healthy living,
Thanks so much for your support of yesterday's blog post about volunteering. SparkPeople has partnered with the Corporation for National & Community Service to promote the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service.

We heard from people who volunteer in all sorts of ways: from helping at a food bank during the holidays to weekly church services. Some of you help at animal shelters; others share their time to teach children about science. Volunteerism runs deep at SparkPeople; members helping members is one of our strengths. We're excited to help our members--and others--find ways to help in their communities and beyond.

We wanted to share a short video and message with you:

From the organizers:

The 2011 MLK Day of Service is over, but the work to achieve Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream continues.

Yesterday hundreds of thousands of Americans marked the 25th anniversary of the King Holiday by joining their neighbors to address pressing social and economic problems in their communities. Volunteers painted schools, served meals to the hungry, wrote letters to the troops, sorted clothing donations, and much more.

To encourage ongoing service throughout the year, the Corporation for National and Community Service has launched the MLK 25 Challenge - a call to all Americans to honor Dr. King by pledging to take at least 25 actions during 2011 to serve others and strengthen our communities. Watch this video to learn more:

To help you get started, we’ve posted a list of 75 ways you can serve. However you choose to get involved, you will be making a difference at a time when our nation needs your service. As Dr. King said, "Life’s most pressing and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

How will you answer the challenge? How will you help in your community or on SparkPeople?
