I love vegetables. Fresh or frozen, any time of year, I'd take a bowl of broccoli with red peppers or an heirloom tomato over just about any other food.

Trader Joe's has an awesome frozen vegetable blend that is a fall-and-winter staple in my house. Harvest Hodgepodge is a one-pound bag of broccoli, carrots, baby corn, mushrooms, water chestnuts, sugar snap peas, red peppers, and onions. This is the best mix of frozen vegetables. And, at $1.99 a bag, it's a pretty affordable veg mix.

I keep a bag in the freezer at work for those days when my lunch from home doesn't seem filling enough. I keep a couple of bags at home for the nights when I'm too tired to chop vegetables but want stir-fry.

Confession: I pick out the baby corn.

Unlike most vegetable blends I find at the regular grocery store, this one is not overwhelmed by oceans of butter or cheese sauce. (Ever read the ingredients on those? There's usually no butter or cheese to be found.) Harvest Hodgepodge is just vegetables, straight up.

Harvest Hodgepodge vegetable blend
30 calories, 0 fat in 3/4 cup servings (5 per package, but it's usually about 2-3 servings for me)
$1.99 for 16 ounces; available at Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's in located in most larger cities in the U.S. What is your favorite Trader Joe's product?

I've only been once but I love the selection they have there and their prices weren't as high as I thought they would be. I need to go again. - 1/13/2009   3:43:40 PM

Actually, Trader Joe's are in only about half the states! They are expanding, and if you want one in *your* states major city, write to the company at traderjoes.com and tell them. - 1/13/2009   2:33:02 PM

Trader Joe's is my favorite grocery store. Their fat free yogurt is really creamy. They have wonderful deals on raw, unsalted nuts which are better for you than roasted nuts. Trader Joe's O's Cereal has a ton of fiber and very low sugar. It's delicious with their frozen berries and cinnamon sprinkled on top. - 1/13/2009   1:57:52 PM

They have a soycutash blend too that I just picked up, and I hope it's delicious! My #1 treat is their sea salt & chocolate covered almonds. SO GOOD. - 1/13/2009   1:39:07 PM

I will have to look for those veggies next time I'm at TJ's. By the way, that is my very favorite grocery store. Some of my faves are roasted veggie pizza, orange chicken, mango chicken sausage, and their grapes. They have the best, sweetest grapes I can find anywhere. Great every time I buy them. - 1/13/2009   1:27:11 PM

Like most everyone else posting, I love Trader Joes! I can't wait to try some of the items people are mentioning. Here's my list of favorites: their Maitre Pierre Tarte Alsace (ham, carmelized onion & gruyere gheese), like another poster said, the spinach artichoke dip is great (keep it in the freezer for guests or just a treat for the family), the sesame honey almonds, the maple frosted shredded mini-wheats-better than the major brands by far , their fire roasted vegetables with balsamic butter and the roasted potatoes with pepers and onions....YUM! - 1/13/2009   1:21:46 PM

Oh how I WISH we had a Trader Joe's up here! We got introduced to their Habanero Pistachios over the holidays, and bought three bags to take home. Only one is left. *sigh*

(but I love the baby corns, so bring 'em on! :D) - 1/13/2009   12:49:56 PM

I like the thickest oats I can find and will not eat instant oatmeal, but TJ's instant oatmeal with cranberries and flax seed is quite good. For a quick and nutritious breakfast, it's delicious. - 1/13/2009   12:15:17 PM

I love their packs of 2 Ahi Tuna filets. They are already marinated, and they are a good size. It's a perfect main course, and the calories aren't too bad either. We usually grab all that are in the freezer whenever we go!!! - 1/13/2009   12:10:34 PM

ooooooo, I loves me some Trader Joe's !!!!

I also like their Oriental mix, I use it with shrimp or chicken, add low sodium (TJ's, of course!) soy sauce, ginger and a smashed clove of garlic for stir fry. :o) - 1/13/2009   12:07:19 PM

Oh, and some of their salad dressings are GREAT. I love their Caesar dressing (80 cal per 2 tbsp and doesn't taste diet at all) and Parmesan ranch (around 50 cal per 2 tbsp). - 1/13/2009   11:56:40 AM

Um... I have to confess my favorite Trader Joe's item is Sweet & Spicy Pecans. Loaded in calories, but good fats... I have a few halves every few days for a slightly sweet treat! - 1/13/2009   11:52:44 AM

Next to New Seasons (a local chain that has amazing produce) TJ's is my favorite store. Check out their frozen Just Grilled Chicken. It comes in strips and you can take out just what you need. I always keep a bag at work for salads. - 1/13/2009   11:19:14 AM

I love Trader Joe's. In fact, I think I will have to make a trip very soon. I try to avoid corn and broccoli as much as I could but the mix does sound tempting. Picksweet has a Spring Veggie blend that is excellent as well, red peppers, green peppers, asparagus, and onions. All very good and comes in a steamer bag! Love it! - 1/13/2009   10:54:02 AM

I love their cereal bars. Way lower in sugar than most and they help me get through the afternoon workout to dinner on those busy days. My sister loves their "corn flakes"...literally has us buy them when ever they are there because they sell out a lot. Guess she is not alone. :o) - 1/13/2009   10:14:21 AM

:-( I SO miss TJ's. I used to go once a week on my way home from work in California. Now, like others who commented, the closest one is when we visit my FIL in Albuquerque... 8 hours away! Colorado doesn't have them, hopefully someday. - 1/13/2009   10:13:44 AM

ok.. I'll admit it... TJ's has the best spinach artichoke dip in the freezer section.. they always sell out of it.... okay so it's not really low cal... but everything in moderation.. right?? - 1/13/2009   10:12:13 AM

I love TJ's! My favorite is the frozen veggie meatballs - I usually stock up with about 3 bags when I get up there once a month! I also love the different kinds of frozen pizza, and my son loves the organic macaroni and cheese! - 1/13/2009   10:03:00 AM

I wish we had Trader Joe's. The last time I went to one it was the one in NYC and it was a nightmare! I still love TJ's though. Maybe one day we will have one in Texas. I would be willing to drive a few hours. I think the nearest one is a 15 hour drive... too far! I've heard of people making the trip with empty suitcases. - 1/13/2009   10:00:26 AM

For those of you who have Trader Joes in your area and you don't go, you're missing out! I drive 45 minutes to get there and it's so worth my time. My daughter has a food allergy to corn and peanuts and I can find kid friendly things there which aren't full of high fructose corn syrup like ketchup, BBQ sauce, low sugar preserves without a bunch of scary ingredients in them and the cashew-macadamia butter is to die for. We also buy most of our cereal there as well as air dried fruits, meat, yogurt, and frozen fruits and veggies. LOVE TRADER JOES! - 1/13/2009   10:00:06 AM

I have a Trader Joe's 5 minutes away! I like the frozen section and buy wild salmon there for very affordable prices, plus I love the veggies. The hodge podge mix is not appealing to me though. I like carrots (but not cooked) and I don't like mushrooms or baby corn. I'd rather buy the beans, broccoli, etc. separately and make up my own perfect mix. I love their frozen roasted corn, I add it to chili and other soups.

It's not healthy, but my favorite thing is the Candy Cane Joe Joes cookies. - 1/13/2009   9:45:08 AM

Trader Joes are located pretty much on the east coast and on the west coast. The middle part of the country is pretty much left out. I'd love a Trader Joes around here, but the closest one is in Vegas....six hours away. http://www.traderjoes.com/locations

I am one of the lucky ones who does most of my shopping at TJ's. I don't have to continually check labels for high fructose corn syrup in snacks for my boys, cereals are generally healthier and I love the frozen food section. I love the Irish sharp cheddar cheese that is 50% less fat and melts great and tastes yummy. My guilty pleasure is the orange chicken. - 1/13/2009   9:13:39 AM

We don't have a Trader Joe's here but Harris Teeter recently had a BOGO sale on Birds Eye veggies (regular and steamer bags) and they were also already on sale 2 for $5. So, they ended up being $1.25 a bag. My freezer is FULL! I mix the broccoli stir fry and the pepper stir fry all the time, there's no sauce in either. I also use the pepper stir fry instead of chopping a fresh green pepper in soups, chili, and other recipes. Right now a green pepper is $1.49 unless I can get to the farmer's market and the mixed bag has green, yellow and red along with onion so it's quite a bit less expensive (although I always add more onion, I LOVE onion). Today it's broccoli and cauliflower in slow cooker chicken curry - 1/13/2009   9:00:35 AM
