Are You Something Beautiful?

By , SparkPeople Blogger

Perhaps you remember Brooke White from Season 7 of American Idol. This self proclaimed lover of anything "right brained" is now taking on acting in the latest Family Movie Night presentation.

Change of Plans is a "revealing story that shows how embracing life's unexpected events can open your heart and mind to new possibilities." This latest installment of better TV for families presented by Walmart and P& G will have its world premiere on FOX this Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 8 pm EST/7 pm CST. Although co-star Phylicia Rashad of Cosby Show fame caught my attention, what really put a smile on my face was Brooke's movie theme song video for Something Beautiful.

Being unique isn't always celebrated and recognizing inner beauty can be an operation. This video highlights how positive it can be to move to the beat of your own drum with laughter, joy and your own style especially when it makes you happy.

As this blog so apply puts it, "when everything is going wrong, something beautiful can make all the difference." However, beauty has become defined by how things look instead of what they are which is unfortunate. Consider these quotes:

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart." ~Helen Keller

"Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart." ~Kahlil Gibran

"It is not beauty that endears, it's love that makes us see beauty." ~Tolstoy

"Let the beauty we love be what we do." ~Rumi

As we start a new year, let us all commit to finding something beautiful within ourselves by learning to love who we are instead of focusing so much on how we look or the number on the scale.

What will you do this year so people see something beautiful about you?

True beauty is the beauty of the spirit which can put a smile on someone's face or make a person feel at ease. I try to cultivate friends who understand this and are not obsessed with superficial appearance. Report
To know that I am WORTH fighting for!!! Report
I will try to be kinder to myself. If I am as kind to myself as I am to others, I will have happier, healthier relationships. Report
Keep my mouth shut. For a variety of reasons. Report
I hope to be the kind of person that encourages others to give and care more about those around them. We can be nicer to one another making all of our lives more beautiful. Thanks for the wonderful article. Report
Look in the mirror. See the person in the mirror? Love that person. Do what's best for that person. Then you will stay focused on doing what is best for you, so you can do what's best for others. Report
I am beautiful not because of a number on a scale, and not because of a pound or two lost. I am beautiful because, well, quite frankly, just because. I am. I am beautiful because I am a unique individual with much to offer to the world. I am beautiful because there is no other person like me. God doesn't make ugly!

And TACGB, I am so extremely happy that you have been able to recognize the power of your journey. Way to go! Report
I plan to not overuse "pithy sayings", thinking that reading them will change the world more than one second. Report
this year I aim to smile more and worry less and to make others smile as well! Report
Stop using a mirror and look inside. Love yourself. Report
I hope it is my good nature, and my ability to make people laugh. I think I have nice eyes, hair and legs. lol. Report
I will try to stay happy and smiling. There is nothing beautiful about a scowling face. Report
You are such as inspiration and use of your words are buetiful. I used to think yhat I was a little pretty but the heavier I have gotten the less I belive it. Congratulations on losing the weight you have and being able to keep it off. I strive to just make it through one day. When I read blogs like your it gives me hope. Thank you. Report
A wise person once told me that it is an inside job. If you don't think you are acceptable, lovable and beautiful now, you won't when you are 20 pounds lighter either. Report
I'll try to volunteer my time to help out a local charity ! Report
Good message... Report
Fantastic message! Report
this year is all about finding balance and some measure of inner peace. creating a place of calm so i can stop and take time to enjoy what life has to offer is itself a thing of beauty. Report
Beauty lies in ones actions and attitudes towards others, life in general and ourselves. Report
I think that for others to see the beauty in us we must first see it so that we project those parts of us without effort. I don't believe you can really make others see the beauty in you. If they can't recognize their own inner beauty how are they going to recognize it in others. That is why one of my goals for this year is to stop with the negative comments (even if they are only in my own mind) when people do things that are stupid or irritating.

I've been one of those drivers that when some one cuts me off that even though I'm in the car alone I'll starting yelling, "What a moron. What idiot gave you a license etc." I feel that reacting to the negatives in others just puts a negative slant on everything in my life. So I'm working on ignoring the things that drive me crazy and to just look for the positives in myself. Once I do that I think it will be easier to see the positive in others without having to work at it. Report
Nothing. Report
It's taken me a long time to realize that beautiful is something you do. I'm not and will never be a supermodel, but I like what I see when I look in the mirror because that body is the one who has built the life and the relationships that I have today. It took me a long time to see through this lens, but when I finally saw myself for what I really was I was kind of amazed. My husband says I seem more attractive lately... because of my increasing confidence and passion for life. That's all the validation I need. Report
It is so refreshing to a family style movie on network tv. We all need to be reminded daily that there is a spark of beauty in us all. Some hold it in their heart, Others wear it on their sleeve. When we take a moment to help someone in need we "fix" something about ourselves. I learned years ago that I get more out of helping someone to work through a relationship issue or a personal meltdown than I did in Therapy. (not that I don't agree with therapy, I do.) I can usually see a little part of me in them and then I can see where I need to take my own advice. Blessings to all the beautiful people out there, even if they cannot see it in themselves right now. Report
I think I need that first off I need to show others how much I think about myself by working on my health and fitness. Then I need to pass it on. I will endeavor to do my utmost to not judge people by their actions and their weight. Report

what a job all of our parents do to us .most of us are messed up big time . If when we are born we had directions on how to raise and care for every child . special needs , what a blessing that would be . Report
I have been dealing with incredible rejection lately and feel nothing like beautiful. It's miserable and I have no idea how to over come. Despite losing 130 lbs, half my weight, nothing I do will ever be good enough in that area... Suck! Report
Just Beautiful!!! I've saved this to my SparkFavourites. Report

It is so nice to see that family movies that actually have a message are making a comeback on TV. I don't think I have seen that in I don't know how many years. All I can say it that it is about time! Report
People say my voice is like the voice of angels. So what I do to bring beauty into my world is sing. Clerks where I regularly do business always know I'm coming because of my singing, and particularly over the Christmas season, shoppers commented on my singing in a very positive way. Report
I think these quotes are all well and good. But when I look in the mirror the truth just is right there. I dont see anything beautiful. I have gotten too many negative reinforcements on how not beautiful I am that I dont know any other way. How do you learn to think you are beautiful when you look like me? Report
It begins with me, if I don't see the beauty in me, who will Report
Try to encourage others to see the beauty in them. Report
I totally agree with TACDGB. I have be sexually, physically and verbally/mentality abused as a child then as an adult. My self esteem was shattered all of my life. Not until joining SP (8/1/2010) I'm getting more confident by the day. Yesterday I cut all of my hair off and feel very confident. Everyone at work just looks at me without a word. I like my hair and that's all that matters to me. I'm beautiful with or without hair. Thank you for this post.
How true this is... I'm going to focus on what I feel makes me beautiful. People aren't drawn to me because of my size/shape, my face or my body (traditional measures of beauty), but because of my zest for life, my belief I can do anything I set my mind to do... so that will be what I see and focus on. Report
Because of my childood abuse I struggle with finding the beauty in me. But God's helping me with that. Most people have said that I have a loving heart and others have said that I am strange. Now I am ok with being strange. If you have been what I have been through you'd be strange too. I do know that I it's all about the journey. And on this journey I am finding the beauty in me. Report
