Don't think I would like cold oatmeal. Part of what makes oatmeal great is that it's warm. Feels so good when it's chilly out. - 1/18/2011   2:27:52 PM

My favorite is to use my kettle to heat up the water. While it's doing it's thing, I'm putting rolled oats in a bowl with bananas, walnuts, and raisins. It whistles, I pour the water over and in a few minutes....voila....super yummy breakfast! - 1/18/2011   2:20:56 PM

Cold oatmeal is really good. You make it the night before. Get a small covered dish (Tupperware or whatever). Ĺ cup generic cheapie oats (not instant), Ĺ cup milk, plus your choice of sweetener.. Let the oats steep in the milk overnight in the fridge. In the AM add your fruit or whatever.. Sometimes when Iím using dried fruits I put it in the with the oats the night before.

It tastes the same as hot oatmeal. But itís cold. Itís good. I promise.

I just made Coach Deans Blue oatmeal. I never use oatmeal I use organic oat bran, I only need 1/4 cup . The cocoa was a great idea. The milled flax seed I was told to add afterwards due to its losing nutritional vale from heating. I did it 2 minutes in the microwave then added the blueberries plus flax seed and 1/4 cup cottage cheese for extra protein. Very good. - 1/18/2011   1:49:16 PM

one of my favorite things is to use instant oats with skim milk and add a half serving of Carnation Instant Breakfast chocolate flavor...it blends really well and like a multivitamin in a meal altogether - 1/18/2011   1:01:24 PM

It was really funny that when I logged onto SP today I seen this blog on oatmeal. I was just eating oatmeal and was playing around with some spices to make it more appealing. I added cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves to mine this morning and I thought as I was eating the only thing missing was a little pumpkin then I seen the receipe for Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal...great minds think alike :) - 1/18/2011   11:01:59 AM

I love the pumpkin recipe, I'll be trying that minus the sugar. As a note to that one, a lot of vanilla extracts contain corn syrup, even the "pure" ones, so check labels!!

My favorite so far is simple old fashioned oats, a small can of mandarin oranges, and chopped up walnuts. Awesome!!

Also, quick cook oatmeal doesn't have nearly the amount of fiber, vitamins, and minerals as old fashioned oats and steel cut oats and it's not all that much faster to cook either. - 1/18/2011   9:08:51 AM

My favorite way to eat oatmeal is to cook the regular oatmeal in a microwave with 1/2 cup frozen blueberries if fresh aren't in season. Otherwise cook the oatmeal an add fresh when done. Instead of milk I stir in a container or Dannon Lite & Fit blueberry or vanilla yogurt. So yummy and creamy. I don't need any other sweetener with the yogurt. 150 calories for the 1/2 cup oatmeal (before cooking), 40 calories for the blueberries and 80 for the yogurt. - 1/18/2011   8:15:15 AM

I'll stick with my oatmeal - cooked with about 2 T homemade applesauce (apples and cinnamon) and a large pinch of golden raisins. I cook it the night before and put it in a microwave safe dish. While I'm exercising I heat it, then add a half cup plain Greek yogurt and top with cinnamon and sugar (heavy on the cinnamon). - 1/18/2011   7:39:19 AM

Peanut butter - banana oatmeal is on my breakfast rotation.

But I agree with Zorbs that savory oats are great.

I make them with sauteed onion with chicken stock instead of water.

A quick and very hearty lunch "stew." - 1/18/2011   6:28:47 AM

what? no savoury oatmeal? Think outside the box, oatmeal does NOT have to be sweet all the time!
