A Quick Reference for Navigating the Boards

Welcome to the BabyFit Message Boards! Throughout the forums you will find people using common acronyms or codes as a shortened way to communicate a common word or phrase. Here is an alphabetical list of the most commonly used shortcuts. Use this as a quick reference as you navigate the boards.
  • 2WW: 2-week waiting time from ovulation to the start of menstruation (or to a sign of pregnancy when menstruation is late)
  • A: "Aunt Flo" (menstruation, period)

  • AP: attachment parenting
  • BB or BBS: Internet bulletin board(s)

  • BBL: be back later

  • BBT: basal body temperature

  • BCPS: birth control pills

  • BD: Baby dancing (sex intended for conception)

  • BF: breastfeed(ing), or boyfriend

  • BFN/BFP: big fat negative/positive on a home pregnancy test

  • BIL: brother: in: law

  • BM: breast milk, or bowel movement

  • BOB: "battery-operated boyfriend"

  • BRB: be right back

  • BT: blood test

  • BTDT: been there, done that

  • BTW: by the way

  • BUMP: noting that you are "bumping" a message board thread to the top of the page
  • CD: cycle day

  • CF: cervical fluid

  • CIO: cry it out

  • Circ: circumcise

  • CM: cervical mucus

  • CP: cervical position

  • CWIM: see what I mean

  • CS or C/S: Cesarean section
  • D&C: dilation and curettage

  • DC: daycare

  • DD: dear daughter

  • DF: dear fiance

  • DH: dear husband

  • DS: dear son

  • DSD: dear stepdaughter

  • DSS: dear stepson

  • DPO: days past ovulation

  • DW: dear wife

  • EBF: extended breastfeeding, or exclusive(ly) breastfeeding

  • EBM: expressed breast milk

  • EDD: estimated due date

  • EWCM: egg white cervical mucus

  • ETA: edited to add

  • ETC: expecting to conceive

  • FF: formula feeding

  • FET: frozen embryo transfer

  • FIL: father: in: law

  • FMU: first morning urine

  • FT: full time

  • FTR: for the record

  • FWIW: for what it's worth

  • FYI: for your information

  • HCP: health care provider

  • HPT: home pregnancy test

  • HTH: hope this helps

  • HSG: hysterosalpingogram

  • IB: implantation bleeding

  • IC: incompetent cervix

  • OMG: oh my gosh, or oh my god

  • OPK: ovulation prediction kit

  • PG: pregnant, or pregnancy

  • POC: process of conceiving

  • PPD: postpartum depression

  • RE: reproductive endocrinologist

  • ROFL: rolling on floor laughing

  • ROFLMAO: rolling on floor laughing my "butt" off

  • SA or S/A: sperm analysis

  • SAHD: stay-at-home dad

  • SAHM: stay-at-home mom

  • SAHP: stay-at-home parent

  • SD: sperm donor

  • SO: significant other

  • SIL: sister-in-law
