The Best Abs Exercises That Are Easy On Your Back

If traditional abs moves like crunches and twists bother your back, don't suffer! There are plenty of ways to work your abs without straining your back that are just as (and sometimes more!) effective. Join me (and my puppy Peanut) for this full-length workout routine that is designed for those who experience back pain during floor abdominal exercises.
All you’ll need for this workout is a sturdy chair and a single light dumbbell (or similar weighted object). 
Please note: If you are working with a specific back injury, be sure to get your doctor and/or physical therapist's approval before attempting this workout. If you suffer from back pain regularly, be sure to consult a professional for an expert diagnosis.

Did the first half but doing the side plank on a slick floor didn't seem like a good idea. I'll do the whole thing later on carpet or a mat. Definitely can feel my abs though! Report

I would love to be able to do these, but you need a sturdy chair and all we have are some bar stools, my office chair and a fold up chair for outside and it is not what would be considered a sturdy chair. Report

Yep, still can't do the Dead Bug move with my extended leg that close to the ground. It would help to suggest & demonstrate extending it at a much higher angle, and gradually modifying to lower the angle. As demonstrated it can cause severe strain for many of us. Report

Most of these are great. However, I suffer from a lower back condition and the second to last exercise (where you're lying on the floor, back arched, and you try to raise your feet one at a time) did cause me some pain. So I just skipped that one and spent some extra time on a different exercise in the video instead. Always work within your own degree of mobility. :) Report
I discovered my hips are really hurting. Limits some movement when sitting and lifting legs. wowza. Report
