Thankful for Who I Am and Where I've Been

By , SparkPeople Blogger
Today, I am thankful.

For the job that allows me to help make a difference in people's lives. For the boyfriend who supports me unconditionally. For the family who loves me. For the friends who stand by me when life gets tough. For the education I've received, for the places I've been, for the things that I've seen.

For the body I have.

The one that allows me to run--in a 10K race, not just when I'm being chased...
that allows me to ride my bike, without training wheels after a 21-year hiatus...
that allows me to support my body weight while contorting into various yoga poses...
that permits me to enjoy moments of peace and calm, after years of omnipresent anxiety...
that has forgiven me for years of yo-yo dieting, unhealthy behavior and neglect.
Today, I am thankful.

What an awakening moment! Thanks for bringing a reminder to us all and the things we take for granted! Report
I'm thankful for so many of God's blessings. My healthy kids and grandkids, a job I love and get to help people, the strength to make changes in my life, the healthy body I'm developing, and so much more. It's easy to get caught up in what we don't have and it's great to stop and think about what we do have, which is so much more than what I THINK I should have. Report
I am thankful for Jesus. I am also thankful for God's healing work in my life. I am thankful that God gave me a family I needed since I didn't have a good one when I was a child and he gave me a good one now. Thanks God........... Report
It is easy to be thankful for the good stuff. It is alot more challenging to find gratitude in the difficulties life hands us. But, to feel gratitude either way is the key to contentment. I am really grateful for my sense of humor. Laughing is so fun!
I am thankful for everything. This world and the people and things in it are amazing. I thank God for always being there for me, always loving me and the for giving me new opportunitunies to mature and grow. Report

I am thankful for my family, my friends, my job, and my health, just for starters. I appreciate the way you worded it that our bodies can be so forgiving once we start taking care of ourselves after abusing them for years. And I can't say enough about how grateful I am for SparkPeople! Report
Gosh, I forgot my pups and kitty! And my much to be thankful for.
Wow, so much to be thankful husband, my family, my friends, my career, the "d" on my keyboard (I was suprised how much you use that key!), my health, my neighborhood, above all God. So much to be thankful for. And all of you - Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to come. Report
I am thankful for my family, my health, my friends and SparkPeople. It's a great time to be alive. Report
I'm thankful for making a change that allows me to finally LIVE my life instead of merely exist. I'm thankful for Chris Downey and all of the great people of Spark. This is more than a place to lose weight; it's a family. I've seen some of my Sparkfriends more this year than my actual family. This is the reason that people who get involved tend to stay 'on the wagon.'

Namaste! Report
I am thankful for my family and friends. I am also thankful for my family and all there wonderful support. Report

I'm most grateful for my wonderful husband! And I'm so happy to be here at the ripe ol' age of 58. The other blessings are just too numerous to enumerate, but I'm also delighted that SP exists...and that many of its lively, health-enhancing employees - e.g., Stepf, a most entertaining writer whose fitness feats, yoga savvy and creativity in the kitchen...not to mention a highly enjoyable Twitterer - are here for us every doggone day! Thankful for God & Jesus and thankful just "to be" Report
I am thankful for my everyday blessings and my family. Most of all I am thankful that I live in this great country of America and for all the service men & women that help keep our country safe! Report
I am thankful for life, for time to celebrate with my family on Thanksgiving and doing our traditions that hopefully will survive long after I am gone. I am thankful for those who love me and those who don't because we are all in this together. I am thankful for all of the members who constantly motivate me to continue on in this journey we all share. There is so much to be thankful for that it sometimes makes me just pause and say, "wow!" Report
I've made a conscious practice this year of finding gratitude on a daily basis. If we look closely and pay attention, we will find it even within activities and things that we would ordinarily categorize as "bummers" ... like (for me) replacing parts inside a toilet tank just before TG day without the need for a plumber, or sweating bullets spending some 6 hours over 2 days cleaning up the back yard of leaves knee deep in places, cutting tree branches, and hauling it all to the other end of my lot for pick-up.
And in my typical mischievous way, I'll let YOU look for the "gratitudes" to be had within these things in the midst of the usual grousing about "why did this have to happen NOW & I don't have time for this!" They ARE there, if you just think and look ... hahaha
Happy TG,

Great blog! Very insightful. Report
I am thankful for life and the love of family and friends. Every time I turn the TV on and I hear the economic crisis that our country is in and the people who are impacted I count my blessings and pray for all those who are impacted. Whenever I think about complaining about something I reflect and erase those thoughts. I have so much to be thankful for why should I be complaining? Yesterday on the news I saw a story about a young man that was working in his school to help the homeless. I thought it was such a touching story for a young man to give back to others then I learned that he and his family was homeless also but no one was aware. He did not dwell on his situation. He was thankful for the mission that provided his family a place to sleep and in turn helped others. Now a NFL player is helping him out and taking him to Washington, DC. This young man is a true ambassador of life and have dreams and aspirations that he will be successful at. I just had to share this story as it brought tears to my eyes and made me thankful for life and all that I have. The message for me is not to take life for granted and to remember to continue to help others in need. I challenge others to do the same. Report
I am thankful for my pets that I saved, my hubby and that we both have jobs Report
I have had a rough go at life. In short I had a brain tumor on my brainstem. Had brain surgery at 22, and had to relearn EVERYTHING. I was not supposed to live the day, then 5 years without ever walking again and not knowing my name from day to day. I was paralized 3 mths, but with therapy, determination, and a wonderful support system I am walking, talking, left handed (was right), I got my accounting degree, had a insurance business for 5 years, have a beautiful son, and its all been 9 1/2 years!!! I am thankful for every breath, every step I take, waking up everyday, and God's strength to let me overcome what every doctor told me!!! Every day is precious and it is taken for granted by most people. I am thankful for the things in my life for they have made me who I am today, and I wouldn't change any of it for the world!!! Report
I am thankful for my family, for finding sparkpeople to finally lose weight, and for the military for protecting us. Report
What a beautiful blog! I am thankful for my family and friends. For the ability or talent to help children feel better about themselves and their own situations. For my job and all that it brings me. For my health. For the ability and faith in myself to guide my own destiny. It really is up to me! I am thankful for our service personnel who are in the states or away from home, and in harms way. Who fight day after day for our freedoms and priveledges. God Bless America and God Bless us all. Report
