Monty's Small Success of the Week

"Completing my first duathlon of the year!"

What's your overall goal? 

My overall goal is to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle for my wife, granddaughter and sister. I want to continue competing in duathlons and triathlons to stay in the best condition I can for them. Along with inspiring and motivating others to embrace a happy, healthy life, I enjoy sharing with others, especially on SparkPeople.

How is SparkPeople helping you get there? 

SparkPeople keeps me accountable and focused on my goals. I use my SparkPoints as my daily checklist to success.

What's your biggest challenge right now? 

My biggest challenge is to stay injury-free. I am achieving this through cross-training, strength training and yoga. 

What advice do you have for someone who just joined SparkPeople? 

Forget everything you've thought, heard or read in the past about "dieting." Most of it is obsolete. Select the "Learn" tab at the top of every SparkPeople page and start self-educating on the most up-to-date information. Ask questions in the endless forums available here on SparkPeople. Embrace a healthy lifestyle, start slowly, strive to be consistent and your progress will follow. The short-term goal is to attain your optimum weight. The long-term goal is to live a happy, healthy life. Never quit!

Sorry it took me so long to respond. A Duathlon is composed of only two disciplines, run and bike. The format is composed of a run leg, then a bike leg, then another run leg. So with that in mind, my first was a 1 mile run, an 8 mile bike, then finish with a 5K. (It's what we might call a Super Sprint Du because it's short and fast) My longest to date is a 5K run, a 15 Mile bike, finishing with another 5K.aka a Powerman Sprint. Each January, my Tri Team and I do one down here in Tampa Bay to loosen up for the full Triathlon Season. I'm doing my first Tri this Saturday, April 14. I'm doing 4 more this year leading to Ironman North Carolina 70.3 Relay in October to celebrate my 68th Birthday. Did a Marathon last year to celebrate my 67th! "Stay Healthy, My Friends!" Report

Awesome job... I have completed 5 5K races since November of 2017 and have many more that I am already signed up for... also, I have lost 30lbs since the start of the year. It's healthy living, eating and exercise that have been important to me... and the correct balance of people encouraging me along the way. Report
