Maria Kang: Motivated Mommy or Blogger Bully?
Maria Kang sparked outrage recently when she posted a photo of herself in skimpy workout clothes surrounded by her three young kids and the caption "what's your excuse?" Is her photo inspirational or judgmental for those whose bodies aren't ever going to be that lean?

I miss Spark People Radio! Please bring it back ASAP! Report
I saw a segment on the morning news about Maria Kang. They said that she is, in fact, a fitness professional--in other words, assuming they were accurate, she makes her living doing the thing she's shaming other people about. Most people don't have fitness as their profession and therefore don't devote the same amount of time to it that a professional would. On another note, however, we do all make excuses. I just think her approach was less than tactful and perhaps was done more to help her career than to help those struggling with weight and health issues. I'm personally not outraged but still a bit peeved. I don't think my response is inappropriate considering I believe her behavior came across as intending to insult and degrade simply to garner attention for herself. Report
How SAD, how very SAD that Maria Kang can't post a photo of herself THIN and ask "what's your excuse?" without provoking "outrage"! How VERY UN-SparkPeople-ish!!!!!!
We WISH. We WANT. But we excuse ourselves from really losing weight and keeping it off by protesting, "... but I WON'T give up eating "X"!" or "...but I WON'T change my habit of "Y"!" or "I know it's bad for me but..."
We are all dieters here. We've all lied to ourselves. We've done it! We all know the score. We're not fooling anybody!
But oh, we HATE to be called on it!
IMO, Maria Kang did nothing wrong, nothing provocative. She merely challenged us to look at ourselves honestly. As for being THIN, more power to her! Report
Happy anniversary! Unfortunately your radio ap doesn't work on my laptop. So I miss out. I'd love to see the text of what you talk about so I can enjoy things too. Report

This show is so motivational. I love the interviews with people who reached their goals. I would enjoy hearing interviews from those who are still on the journey to a healthier life. Y'all could check in on them once a month or so and see how they're doing, hear about their struggles and the tips they are learning in the process. Essentially we could "follow" that person during their journey. Report
I really like the show, but I don't have a favorite segment. Sometimes I wish it were on a bit more often, but I guess I could just go back and review some of the earlier segments (I'm old, forget quickly). Congratulations on a very successful year!!! Report
Love the radio show, even tho' I'm always a few weeks behind! I get lots of tips and some good laughs along the way. Report
I totally got into podcast listening on my work commute in the past year and found listening to Spark Radio helped me to start the day and end the day on a positive stronger willed note. Thank you for that and congrats on a year! Report
