How to Choose a Midwife or Doula

What You Need to Know

Costs
Most midwife and doula fees are reasonable but vary from practitioner to practitioner and state to state. Many midwives offer insurance reimbursement much as any OB/GYN would. Be sure to check with your insurance however, to determine whether or not services will be covered. Doula fees are not covered by insurance policies. Generally, an in-hospital delivery will incur more costs than a home one. If you will be paying the greater portion of costs, you may consider home birthing as an option.

Midwives and doulas provide invaluable assistance during the labor process. Pregnant moms interested in a natural, safe and relaxing birthing experience should consider using the services of these trained professionals to assist them during and after pregnancy.
