![]() When deciding whether to throw a ladies-only shower or to invite the men, ask the mother-to-be how the dad would feel about being included in the celebration. After all, he is part of the reason you're even throwing a shower! Understandably, many men will not want to be invited to a traditional baby shower, but might really enjoy a shower that feels more like a party instead. If you do choose to invite men to the shower, be sure you invite several men who know each other, rather than just inviting the dad-to-be. If there will be men attending, avoid games that might be embarrassing, and you may want to forgo games all together in favor of general socializing. When men are present, remember that tea sandwiches and lady fingers might not be their idea of lunch, so consider having more food options and in greater quantities. To Game Or Not To Game? Ten million years ago at the first baby shower, a thoughtful cave woman decided to get the guests acquainted and keep the conversation moving with games like "Pin The Tail On The Wooly Mammoth" and "Guess Which Caveman Is that Baby's Daddy." Sure, there are slightly less ridiculous shower games you could opt for now, but by no means should you feel obligated to come up with activities to pass the time. Shower guests should feel welcome to mingle, chat, and interact. If you would like to add a bit of structure to the event without playing games, consider using a few select "baby focus" elements to help the mom-to-be without going overboard. For example, purchase blank thank you notes and postage stamps in advance, stuff the notes inside the envelopes and affix a stamp to each one. Set up the notes in a basket with a pen and as each guest arrives, have her self-address one envelope. This advance planning will be a great time saver for the guest of honor when it comes to thanking each guest for her gift. Another idea is to purchase a picture frame with a large mat surrounding the opening, and let each guest write the baby a little note on the mat with a fine-point permanent marker. Once the baby comes, his parents can put a photo of him inside his specially signed picture frame. This is a unique way to welcome the baby and it will become a keepsake for the parents after the baby is born. Continued › |
