Workplace wellness and employee wellbeing is a great way to control healthcare cost. Montgomery & Graham Inc., company I'm working with to create our employee benefits offers programs to help with awareness and participation http://www.mgbene

  • My company has a fabulous wellness program. There is a wonderful fitness center onsite, and they also subsidize the cost for Weight Watchers. There is a smoking cessation program for those who are interested, and a walking/running team that participates in local races. At lunch they have a regularly scheduled walking group. We recently had the most wonderful health fair at work and we were encouraged to go - I think that there were over 40 vendors there to provide information regarding healthy living. Occasionally we will have a mini-farmer's market in front of our office so we can buy fresh fruits, veggies and other locally grown items. Later this summer we will participate in the City Challenge, and for the past two years we have had our own 5K early one morning in late summer....with police to block off the streets and everything. These are just a few of the highlights...ther
e are tons of other benefits as well. - 6/21/2013 9:09:20 PM
  • My last place of employment had a wellness/fitness center, only problem is the upper staff used it as a place to be condescending and controlling of the lower staff. In other words, they postured with their macho attitudes. Totally turned me off of gyms. - 11/22/2012 6:23:14 AM

Thanks for the information about worksite wellness programs. My office in nyc is looking into providing one. I hadn't thought about the benefits to the company. Thanks for shedding some light on it.

  • Never had a Wellness Program when I worked for 30 years, but included in my retirement health care insurance is free admission to certain gyms, called "Silver Sneakers" program. - 11/16/2011 7:03:27 PM

I am a member of an employee wellness program. It has really helped me pay attention to my lifestyle, and helps me save on my health insurance! - 4/21/2011 11:34:48 AM
  • I really appreciate this article! I work for a company that offers an amazing wellness program, if I do say so myself, and we really wish more employees would take advantage of the great opportunities if offers. Thanks for plugging something that is truly a win-win for both employees and the companies they work for. - 5/27/2010 5:54:43 PM
  • My company is currently having a wellness programme, called "Be Well - Adopt & Maintain Healthy Lifestyle". Every year we have this programme, usually have free checkup. This year, it looks like the company wants to encourage employees who smoke to stop smoking. They even have special rewards for those who successfully stop (they have dateline). Other than that, there are 2 sessions of weight management workshop. This one also offer a reward - heart monitor - to those who manage to reduce their weight at least 10% of their current weight. The programme is one of good way to encourage employees to keep fit and healthy - and to save company money from paying expensive operations and medical, hehe. - 5/20/2010 5:23:51 AM

  • Through the "Passport to Wellness" program at work I learned about SparkPeople.com and, with SparkPeoples encouragement for fitness, I am now using the Wellness Center at work usually 5 days a week. I work at a hospital so the center is shared with patients and employees. I have made new connections with both groups and enjoy visiting with them during exercises. It sure makes the time go fast and makes the me want to go and exercise because it is so friendly. It is a great free benefit for the hospital employees. - 2/5/2010 9:59:38 PM
  • When I worked for a large aerospace corporation from 1981 - 1985 the best thing was that they had their own gym facilites that were located just 1/4 mile from the job site. I would stop by on my way home from work and it was free. They had some scheduled classes too, along with a running track and gym equipment. You can't beat free! - 2/5/2010 9:19:55 PM

Unfortunately, my employer just dropped the wellness program due to low participation despite the offer of $$$ for completing certain activities. - 1/31/2010 9:11:14 PM
  • Workplace wellness programs are great. On a side note. insurance companies sometimes offer these too like ours does. Because of our weight, we were flagged to be contacted. The nurse talked to my hubby like he was on cholesterol and blood pressure meds and he said wasn't on any meds and was in perfect health and had lost 79 lbs. She then told him that since he wasn't on any meds, he DIDN'T QUALIFY!!! Apparently you have to be diseased and preventative medicine is no longer a priority! You would think they would want to encourage those who are overweight but healthy to stay that way instead of excluding them from getting the most information they could to help them on their journey! - 7/29/2009 9:38:27 AM
