Dunkin' Donuts

From SparkPeople’s Editors

Coffee and doughnuts are tops at this morning chain, but Dunkin' Donuts also offers an array of savory menu options. Thanks to a DDSMART menu, there are plenty of choices that won't give you a doughnut around your middle!

  • Check out the DDSMART menu to find more nutritious breakfast items. Not all its items are healthy, so be sure to read menus carefully. Here are our top picks.

  • The three best breakfast items are the Egg White Veggie Flatbread Sandwich (290 calories, 9 g fat, 680 mg sodium), Egg White Turkey Sausage Flatbread Sandwich (280 calories, 6 g fat, 820 mg sodium), and the English muffin (160 calories, 1.5 g fat, 340 mg sodium).

  • Beware of healthy catch words like "multigrain" or "reduced fat." A Multigrain Bagel is a healthier choice than a donut, but it still contains 400 calories and 9 g of fat--before you add cream cheese. The Wheat Bagel, however, has only 350 calories, 4 g of fat and 650 mg of sodium. One packet of reduced-fat cream cheese tacks on 100 calories, 8 g of fat and 250 mg of sodium. A reduced-fat Blueberry Muffin--the lightest muffin available--clocks in at 450 calories, 10 g of fat and 670 mg of sodium!

  • If you need a sweet treat, try a Cinnamon Twist for 210 calories and 11 g of fat.

  • For a midday meal, try the Southwest Chicken Flatbread (310 calories, 9 g fat, 840 mg sodium) or the Turkey and Cheese Deli Classics Sandwich (450 calories, 13 g fat, 1,500 mg sodium).

  • If you must have a donut, choose either a cake donut without filling, such as a Blueberry Cake Donut (230 calories, 7 g fat, 330 mg sodium) or a basic Glazed Donut (220 calories, 9 g fat, 320 mg sodium).

  • Skip the fancy coffee drinks, which contain hundreds of calories and several grams of fat. A regular cup of flavored coffee has only 10-15 calories. If you want a coffee treat, choose the small (10 oz) Latte Lite (80 calories, 0 g fat, 110 mg sodium) or small (16 oz) Nonfat Coffee Coolatta (140 calories, 0 g fat, 75 mg sodium).

These muffins are very filling!

The whole wheat flour makes for a dense muffin, which I like. You only need to eat one! If you want a lighter muffin try using whole wheat pastry flour, which is more finely ground and available in the bulk bins at larger grocery stores.
