20 Ways to Burn 200 Calories

Do visions of schlepping away on the treadmill or giving up your social life for the gym come to mind when you think about burning calories? Think again!

These fun workouts and activities will help you burn approximately 200 calories* each. Take your pick, whether you need ideas to get started on your fitness program or get the scale moving in the right direction again.

Playtime!

Video games like Nintendo Wii let you exercise more than your thumbs. It gets you up off the couch and sweating!
50 minutes = 200 calories burned


Hop to It

Grab a jump rope and make like a kid! Wear good cushioned shoes and use a steady hard surface.
10-15 minutes = 200 calories burned


Tee Off

Hit the links at your local golf course. Walking and pulling (or carrying) your own clubs is great exercise!
50 minutes = 210 calories burned

Lather Up

Wash your car by hand. Get out the vacuum, hose, bucket, and sponge for a detailed cleaning.

Fitness Buddy

Take the dog for a walk, and try to maintain a brisk (about 4 mph) pace. Fido needs exercise, too!

I really like this and I'm most def going to do some of the activities listed especially playing tennis because that is my favorite sport.

Good to KNOW how much I can burn when working in the yard and cleaning house, washing the car, wii fir games, jump rope etc. It's extra motivation. I won't feel as guilty working in the yard which I love, it can be a work out. And house work double rewarding, clean house / calorie burn =D

Great Slide Show. I did a total detail on my car Sunday- I still had a stoller in the trunk and my youngest is 8! I've been out doing yardwork and gardening all morning- now I'm going to stack wood. Nothing like burning Calories AND getting things done!

Gosh, some people are so negative. It's great if you can burn who-knows-how-many-calories on an elliptical or run a marathon or whatnot. However, considering people who just enter the weight loss game, exercise can seem extremely daunting. It's a great motivator to know that 'Hey, cleaning my house does add up'.

I work at a *gasp* fast food place. There's not too many job options in a tiny town like this. Every night I clean the place top to bottom, until it sparkles. I've told people before: why PAY to go to a gym if I can get PAID instead for burning calories?

I've lost about 65lbs since I started my journey 2 years ago. No gym visits, ever. Gardening, walking, cleaning... ya know: LIVING LIFE.
