12 Tips to Drink 8 Cups a Day

Water Tactics that Help You Get in Your 8

11. Combine habits
Get in the habit of drinking a cup of water when you do other things in your daily routine. Love long baths? Fill your water bottle when filling the tub. Working out? Keep your bottle beside you. Heading for bed? Set a glass on the nightstand. Reading by the fire? Always bring a cup of tea along. Develop water habits that go with your routines.

12. Reward your hard workf
Make a habit of having special water after each workout, for example. This can be water you gussy up yourself with a slice of lemon or lime, a fruit-flavored water, or (what I enjoy) a tall sparking mineral water.

Just a couple of these tricks can push you across the eight-cup finish line fairly painlessly. So raise a glass and tell your metabolism who’s the boss. Sometimes, simply conquering your water goal is enough to set you on the right path in even more areas. Cheers!

  • National Institute of Health actually says 8 ounces of fluid.
Perhaps the people who sell bottled water in Plastic bottles might tell you it had to be bottles instead. - 6/15/2016 7:26:19 PM
  • There is no substantive research which validates the 64 ounces of water per day mantra so I am curious as to why this is a recurring "requirement" in the various forums. Bottled water is a rip off, is expensive and is ecological unsound considering the empty water bottles scattered all over the landscape. Purchase a stout reusable container and if you dislike your tap water filter it or flavour it to your taste. - 5/24/2016 1:05:44 PM
I purchased a glass water infuser and place lemons, or fruits or cucumbers in the infuser and it gives my water a great taste, this way I find I drink more water :) - 5/24/2016 9:57:57 AM
Don't believe it, as long as you drink something and get liquids in every day, there is no magic in 8 cups of water! 3 dietitians told me not to make a big deal out of this old wives tale. It's what and how much you eat that makes you lose weight! I'm not saying to drink colas, but 8 cups of water is no magic rule. - 5/24/2016 9:18:42 AM
  • There is no scientific / medical report stating you HAVE to drink 8 glasses / cups of water a day. The article does state, however, the best interests toward one's health is stay hydrated much as possible. And yes, I drink rather several cups a day, I don't keep count, I continue to fill when my glass is empty.

No, You Do Not Have to Drink 8 Glasses of Water a Day

You Donít Need 8 Glasses Of Water A Day

  • I enjoy drinking ice cold water. Only water. I can not remember the last time that I had a soda. - 5/20/2016 3:33:29 PM
  • I hate cold water, and I really really hate ice water. I want my water decently hot. - 5/19/2016 7:07:40 AM
  • I love cold, fresh water. Not from my tap though. I have the filter that runs through my fridge. Best investment ever. Even my dogs get the filtered stuff. Our regular water smells like a swimming pool.
I drink lots of water every day. I usually have trouble remembering to log it. - 4/12/2016 3:07:16 PM
I really love the idea about tagging your water bottle, because I have been trying to drink more water to be healthier. I especially love the part about putting an inspirational sticker on it and so maybe I can find a good quote about empowerment and healthy living to put on there. I really think that doing that will encourage me to drink more water, but do you think that there is a specific type of water bottle that I should be getting as well? http://www.hooten

  • If anyone struggles with the taste of water, KEEP TRYING DIFFERENT BRANDS or have your water tested and get a good filter.

  • I have always hated the water at my house, even using a water filter, but, my work has a water cooler and has spring water delivered every few weeks. It tastes better and that has helped change my thinking from "I hate water" to knowing I need certain types of water.

I bought a clear thermos to work and find that seeing the water in it helps me remember to drink it. I fill it up one more time before going home and it does help to keep me away from higher calorie drinks.

I kicked the soda habit and the high calorie iced coffee habit and it feels good. - 3/23/2016 2:17:53 PM
  • I'm not a big water drinker. I find it boring, so I have to spruce it up. I buy True Citrus (crystallized citrus) to add to my water. It comes in lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit. They also make powder for drinks, but it does add a few calories. Lots of options with little to no calories. I'm a big lime fan, and I also found a watermelon lime zinger tea that is awesome. Having a bigger water bottle is daunting to me, and it never seems to empty! Eight glasses goes quicker for me if it's just eight ounces at a time. • Thanks! Great way to get my 8 glasses of water in, you make it sound so much easier......Great ideas! - 3/18/2016 7:34:51 PM
  • Good to know herbal tea counts as water! I have been drinking more water than I thought I was. - 3/18/2016 6:47:32 PM
  • For a couple of years now, I've started to drink 2 cups of water right after I wake up. This is mainly because I realized my body is dehydrated (acknowledging the urine color as well) after 8-9 hours of sleep haha. Though I did start slow, I started with drinking one cup of water after getting up and by that time it was hard to stomach. Eventually I got use to it and started getting comfortable with drinking 2 cups of water. It makes me feel my system has been cleansed! - 3/18/2016 4:48:58 PM
