With thousands of features on the site and new ones launching every day, it's easy to miss some here and there. It's not unusual to hear a long-time member say "I never knew SparkPeople had this!" and sometimes, it refers to a feature that has been here for years! We thought it would be helpful to compile a "Top 10 List" of list of things you might be surprised you can do at Hopefully you'll learn about some new features that you can start using to help you reach your healthy living goals!

1. Map your route. "I walked around the block today and it took me 35 minutes. How do I figure out how far I went?" SparkPeople's Fitness Maps will tell you! Track your route, calculate your speed, calories burned, share your map with others and add your workout to your Fitness Tracker. It works for running, walking and biking!

2. Meet-up with other members. A SparkRally is a meeting or event (held at a public or private gathering place) that provides an opportunity for you to meet up with other SparkPeople members who live in your city. Leaders of city SparkTeams can organize and host SparkRallies, and local Team members can choose whether or not they want to attend. Local teams and SparkRallies are a great way to meet some of your fellow members in person. So if you're not already a member of a SparkTeam for your city, do a quick search to see if there's a Team for your city. You can attend SparkRallies that your Team leader creates or suggest hosting one on your own!

3. Quickly track your nutrition and fitness. "More Tracking" is a tool on the Start page that lets you track up to 6 healthy habits each day: servings of fruits and vegetables, cups of water, hours of sleep and more. Quick tracking is perfect for people who want to monitor simple health goals without spending a lot of time tracking details like calories eaten and burned.

4. Set up email reminders. SparkPeople's Planner can be used to track appointments, birthdays and important events. It can even send you email reminders of these events. This same page allows you to create and keep private journal entries--great for people who aren't interested in sharing their thoughts or progress on a public blog.

5. Track on the go. Did you know that you can take SparkPeople with you when you're away from home? If you have a phone with a web browser you can use the "Mobile Web" version of the site, which includes tracking food, cardio and looking up foods. We also have additional food and fitness tracking, as well as recipe applications for certain phones. Who knew tracking anywhere could be so easy?

  • I had no idea about the map your route or the calendar. I gave no idea how to find them except through this article so I guess I'll just save the article. That map thing is AWESOME!!! - 12/27/2014 10:04:18 PM
  • I use most of these, but the appt. reminder and calendar were new to me. Thanks. - 7/19/2014 10:31:44 PM
  • Thank you for the link to the Calendar. I was just looking for it and could not find it, that is great timing! I am still not sure how to find it, but at least I know it is still there. - 7/13/2014 7:56:11 AM
  • I used to use the reminder feature but haven't done so lately. It actually was convenient to receive email reminders about things that had to be done (i.e. return library books). - 4/6/2014 9:13:03 PM
  • A search for a good walking map tool was what let me find Sparkpeople! I do wish the Calender feature weren't so buried in menus though

  • The Calendar is for sure an awesome feature & one I never knew existed. I think SPARK should move it somewhere MUCH easier to access since this is a tool most people are familiar with & would be more apt to use! Hint Hint!

    Thanks All! - 1/2/2014 9:14:40 AM
  • At the top of the Spark page, click on "My Trackers," click on "Reports." Scroll down and click on "My SparkSummary Calendar." I use it often, and find it very helpful in working toward goals. - 12/11/2013 8:59:50 AM
  • Wow! I had NO IDEA about the Spark Summary Calendar. I can see this being extremely helpful to keeping me motivated. How do I get to it? - 12/11/2013 5:53:10 AM
My doctor referred me to SparkPeople and I am so glad I did. I am eating healthier, reading labels and tracking my progress. Thank you SparkPeople! - 5/4/2013 11:20:52 PM

I never knew about the SparkSummary Calendar - nice!!!
But, I don't see how to get to the calendar by any of the top menu links? - 5/4/2013 8:43:37 PM
  • Great overview of features, but I wish you would have included how to find them. I liked the calendar with the quick overview of how many points, minutes, etc I was getting each day, but now I'm going to have to search around to figure out how to get to it without clicking on the link in this article. - 5/4/2013 9:15:22 AM
I love!! Keep learning new things all the time! Still haven;t figured out how to create my own spark page. - 5/4/2013 8:54:02 AM
  • Wow - I've been a member for almost two years now and I didn't know until reading this that you could map your route! How neat! Very excited about this feature! - 1/24/2013 6:32:45 PM
  • Beautiful!, how can i add this article to my favorites? - 1/24/2013 5:53:45 PM
