Secrets of Success

Use Washcloths Rather Than Paper Napkins.

I purchased inexpensive white washcloths and set them at each person's place. If not soiled, they can be used for another meal. To keep separated, clip with a labeled clothes pin. They are more absorbent, bigger, and add little to the laundry load. I haven't purchased paper napkins in ages.

  • i have been trying to break the paper towel habit over the last few months. i have an ocd counter/table wiping habit from having a houseful of teens!
wash clothes for surface wiping, paper towel for floor and some cooking duties still but i know i have cut down usage by at least 1/2 so far.
before the teen years i used to use cloth table napkins, really should go back to that again. makes a nice looking dinner table and over all just a nice idea. emoticon - by TRACIE-C
  • I set a damp washcloth beside my little one's plate instead of a napkin. Definitely made things easier for all of us. - by SISTERDEAR
  • I have been making my own napkins for our household since 1991. I only buy napkins if we are having a cookout. My kids friends don't know what to make of it when they are handed a fabric napkin instead of paper. I don't use paper towels to mop up floor or cabinet messes or spilled juice i use a kitchen hand towel and add it to the wash. No matter what people think doing this does not add to your laundry you are washing anyways. emoticon emoticon - by AUNTIEDARLING
  • The reason I use washclothes over cloth napkins is the absorbency and durability. I use white cloths so I can wash them with bleach to kill any germs. Also, I can buy a pack of washcloths for much less than a single napkin. I like the cloth napkins for company but for just the family, especially the kids, I like a thick terry washcloth. - by HIKERJOHNSON
  • I prefer cloth napkins. They're more attractive than washcloths and paper and save the same money. - by SYLPHINPROGRESS
