We all already know all the 'secrets' to health and fitness. It's all out there and there isn't one of us who doesn't know exactly what we need to do. Our bodies need us to exercise and get our heart pumping often. Our bodies need us to eat a variety of healthful foods in reasonable quantities. We need to drink plenty of fluids, preferably water. We need to sleep until we can wake up when we want to without an alarm clock. We need to floss our teeth, brush them and visit the dentist regularly. We need to spend some time every day with people we care about. We need to keep our brains active with reading, creative activities, and challenges. There is no secret and we need to stop looking for one. When we think that there is some magic pill or new cleanse/detox potion or super-duper, brilliant, shiny, golden, precious ring that will carry us through, we stop looking at ourselves and our actions. I am responsible for my lifestyle, which is what brought me to this place. I am responsible for creating a new lifestyle that will take me where I want to be. I look and feel a lot better when I take care of myself, and I look and feel a lot worse when I do not. Yes, it really is that straightforward. SparkPeople provides tools to help us do all these things that we need to do, but the bottom line is and always will be that we need to do what we already know we should do. I started on SparkPeople years ago and if I had kept it up, I would have been at my goal weight and fitness long ago. I probably would not be diabetic now. I didn't and here I am, with my habits more entrenched. No more excuses. No more "I will try"s. No more false starts. No more secrets.

  • Today I needed this, and I know a number of people who fall in the same category.
    Some things just happen, like the rain and the sun... but it is also true that every action we take, or don't take, has a consequence. And, only our ACTIONS, or lack thereof, will change the end result.
    It's important to focus each moment on which end result we prefer...
