Secrets of Success

Challenges With Change

Can't believe we've wrapped up another challenge. I came down roughly 2 lbs over this challenge (despite today's weigh-in weight).

I decided I needed to make sleep a priority in hopes it would facilitate weight loss. It's difficult making changes in sleeping habits and this week I have been feeling the rhythm go off track. The trick is to stick with what I'm doing and the body will find the new cycle--in time. Swim coach worked our butts off today too so that has added to my overall fatigue today.

It would be so easy to just drop back to old habits and I'd probably be energized pretty quickly but that wouldn't be addressing the sleep deficit I've been living with for a long time nor help me with losing weight.

Staying the course is what is needed here and, in time, the body will get in tune with the better sleep habits and I'll start feeling the benefits of my efforts. I hope it will help me to lose the weight as I've been pretty much in a plateau for a while.

It's important to recognize that making changes can bring its own challenges and knowing that patience and staying the course is required before I will see the benefits of the changes. I must be willing to keep at it that my body has time to assimilate what I've been doing differently. Just because I've made changes in sleep habits and length of time sleeping doesn't mean my body has caught up with it. I have to remind myself that I've had a long LONG period of going to bed late and not getting enough sleep in and just because I've started doing what I should have been doing doesn't mean my body acknowledges the change yet. The old bod is probably saying: "wonder how much longer this is going to last? Wait! Hold on a bit, she always goes back to short nights. No point in getting bent out of shape just yet. Let's see how long she can last."

So I am telling myself to be patient, stay the course, expect the body to need time to recognize the change before it can readjust. Have a little faith that it will follow.
