Secrets of Success

Shop At Dollar Stores

My favorite places to by groceries are the local dollar stores, i.e; 99 cent stores, Dollar Tree, etc. They carry REAL FOOD, produce, and quite often NAME BRAND items, for less than $1.00! I know that I'm spending my husbands hard-earned money wisely when I shop for groceries and household items at the dollar stores as opposed to larger stores.

  • Be very careful about purchasing health & beauty items at dollar stores. I've heard of items being manufactured in foreign countries that don't have the same quality control as in the U.S. Toothpaste comes to mind. The flouride levels in foreign-made toothpastes are much higher. The dollar stores are also known to sell expired products. So...buyer beware. You get what you pay for. - by JUDY1260
  • My dollar store doesn't carry produce but the one near my mothers does I save lots of money grabbing the vegetables I need at the dollar store vs the supermarket - by DIEGOGAL1
  • I, too, shop at the 99 cent store. Their produce and fruits are so cheap. They usually have red, yellow & orange bell peppers, 2 for $1.00. You would pay so much more at the grocery store. - by FHAR451
  • The produce is usually fine but its always wise to be careful buying canned goods of any type, hidden salt and other preservatives lurk in any canned goods~
Not everything is worth it at the dollar store but if you shop wisely it can be a huge money saver true! - by KAYAHSLOANE1
  • I love the 99cent store. I know exactly when they get their shipment of fresh vegies and I plan my shopping that day around when they put it out. It saves me a lot on produce and it's usually the same brand/supplier as Trader Joes or other grocery stores. You just have to be diligent. - by LADYMARCIA1
  • Be careful of the trans fats and saturated fats, the sugar content and the sodium content in these foods. You may be saving money but more importantly save your arteries and heart. Make sure you check the labels carefully. - by SUNSHINE6442
