Secrets of Success

Shop At Grocery Outlet

In our area there are stores calleld Grocery Outlet (Rainbow Grocery) that carry foods that may be close to expiration, food that the company is making label/ingredient changes in, etc. I think there are stores like this in almost every city. Ours do not carry dented/damaged and I don't recommend those foods - it's not worth it to take a chance with your health. But you might try something new from one of these discount stores you may decide you like!

More Information:

I just bought some organic frozen dinners (free range chicken, etc.), for $1.99 each and Wild Salmon and Ahi Tuna dinners for $2.99. I stay away from the canned veg and usually check out dairy, frozen, and fresh veg. Also, they will often have overrun from Costco (like Sam's Club).

Yes and what a find this Grocery Outlet is! We have been able to try some new things at a reasonable price. Have also found some gluten free items there as well. - by JODAEW
  • We have a (UGO(United Grocery Outlet)) I shop there often and you are right it's the best place to pick and try something new. - by STARRZ57
  • There are a few in my area also, and the prices are unbelievable! My favorite is under 10 miles away, close enough to bike to and carries the BEST produce. I buy all my cereal there, and most of the dog food.

They are not usually listed under 'Grocery Outlets,' you just sort of need to keep your ears open. - by PEDAL-PUSHER
  • Never heard of them and I don't find anything in my phone book or internet listing for 500 miles. A bit too far to go shop. - by RD03875
I'm not able to find a "Grocery Outlet" but I would say our Aldi stores in Kansas City are almost the equivalent and they carry a line called Fit and Active with low fat, low sugar items. The fresh fruits and vegetables usually need to be eaten within 3-4 days though. but when you can get an Avocado for .49 cents vs a $1.50 it is worth the drive to find one. - by ASEXYWITCH
