Goal Setting: Break It Down

Setting out to shed over 70 lbs. seems overwhelming, so I have broken down my goal into 4 (or more) parts. One for each season of a year. Right now I only have to concentrate on getting rid of 1/4. That is do-able! Then as the next season begins, so shall my 'new' goal of getting rid of another 1/4. After goal is met, I will work on maintenance one week at a time. Again, broken down, instead of "forever." If it takes longer than 4 seasons, I'll coninue more seasons until goal met.

I have about 80 pounds to lose also. This is a great idea to make the goal more manageable. Thank you! - by JACKIE122300
  • Thanks for sharing your comment/idea. I have a significant amount of weight that I want to loose and I think this idea might make the journey seem less daunting. I am going to try it. - by ALFIE11066
  • I have always done it that way too. But I also set up a reward system to tie in to it. I have found my most satisfying rewards are those that make me feel good. A pedicure, a facial, a new hairdo. - by KCOCEAN
  • I like the breaking it down idea completely. But since it's out of our control how much weight our body will lose in a given amount of time, don't get discouraged if the 20 lbs per season doesn't quite work out that way. As long as the numbers keep going down, we're on the right track! - by NEWMAC2011
  • I set my goals in small increments also it really helps. Some of mine are even silly goals but if it helps take the weight off so be it. I like the 20 lbs per season concept. Great idea! - by GINGERWILSON
