Icy Cold Hydration That Stays Cold Longer Without Coolers Or Bags Of Ice

Fill various sized bottles and jugs half full of water. Place bottles (not gallon jugs) so that they lean (keep stable) to one side while freezing (without lids). Keep gallon jugs upright (also no lids). When ready to use fill with fresh water and screw lids on snuggly and you're all set to go!

More Information:

Depending on whether you're using at home or on various length trips you have an icy cold drink that stays colder than fast melting ice cubes. The angle results in greater surface area of ice and the thinner top of ice on one side melts a little faster to provide additonal drinking water over time!

  • Also, if the bottles or jugs you are using had something other than water in them before they will need a good cleaning with warm soapy water and rinse well. Then add a tablespoon of baking soda and fresh water, screw lid on snugly, shake well, allow to sit for an hour, shake again, repeat. Rinse well and allow to sit open (no lid) to air out until next day. This removes odors and flavors from whatever inhabited it before so it doesn't infuse into your ice and water. Use lids that screw on to insure no spills particulary in the car. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon - by CHOCOHOLICLADY
  • Good idea! Also, make sure not to fill the jugs too full (3/4 would probably be good), water expands as it freezes, and if it's too full, it will come out the top (learned this from my own experience) - by RHALES199
