Kids Teach Eye-Opening Lesson about Body Image

A group of adults and a group of kids were both asked one question: "If you could change one thing about your body, what would it be?" The answers differed a LOT between the two groups. Makes you think, doesn't it?

For the most part, I love my body...it has been healthy and strong and does most of what I want it to. I have good coordination, and no illnesses. I do have scoliosis which didn't affect anything until I was over 50, but i can't complain. I would love to lose a bit of stomach, which I hope will improve if I watch what I eat. This is a good lesson in whether we are concerned with the world's preferred image. Report

Powerful video and I love the comments from the children. I hope they can hold on to that image of themselves for a very long time. As to the last question printed on the screen about when the last time was you felt good in your skin(or something like that) ...I remember it well...I was about 8, set to be a flower girl at my cousin's wedding and excited to try on the flower girl dress. It didn't fit. I was too big. And I have been too big ever since. I think that body image destroyed as a child seems to stick with us a lot longer than if it happens later in life - maybe because we don't have the experience to deal with it. Report

I loved the lady at the end! I am almost 62 and don't dye my hair, but back in the days when I was "out in public" I would get compliments on it every day! :) Love the way you look - just as you are, 'cause you are BEAUTIFUL! Report

The beautiful children and their thoughts of what they would change made me cry. Cry because they are so pure and innocent, and therefore recognize their own perfection. Cry, because it won't be long before their "self love" will be stripped away by indoctrination of the societal standard of beauty. Cry, because they will soon become "us" though we will never again...Be them! Report

When as adults did we lose our imagination? The children's answers were magical, inspirational, and made me think differently how I might answer this question. We are so critical of ourselves and each other. Let us ignite our imaginations once again and envision a future of acceptance whether we have big ears or wings of an angel!! God made us in His image. What's not to love if it's from God? Enjoy a peaceful day, Sparkfriends! Report

This made me tear up, because every one of those people are beautiful. The man doesn't have big ears...the woman does't have a huge forehead....or fat cheeks....or whatever they were worried about. They were normal, beautiful. How sad that the cruel remarks of teasing and bullying in early years can affect us so strongly. I'm no exception--I will never see myself as attractive.

Loved the kids' answers! Very fun. Report
