Love smoothies! I use a splash of cherry concentrate to give color and added nutrition and then pour it into/drink it from an aluminum water bottle. Keeps it frosty and I don't have to look at it if the color is not appealing :)
I plan to try it out. Thanks for the wonderful tips! At work, I have access to a good variety of fruits & vegetables. Looks likes a great way to get my daily requirements in a good tasting drink.
I make smoothies 3 or 4 times a week. My favorite is almond milk, banana, blueberries (or other berry), kale, flaxseed, veggie protien powder and sometimes cocoa powder. They taste great! I hate the taste of kale and brussell sprouts, but cannot taste them in my smoothies.
I've had fruit smoothies with baby lettuce thrown in. It was very good, and essential since I was on IV antibiotics for a bone infection.
I love blending smoothie. I usually blend all my fruits or all my veggies. Love it.
I have found that if you freeze your spinach it blends easier and doesn't seem so thick. You can't even tell it is in there.
Thank you for this blog! I have been wanting to try smoothies but I wasn't sure where to start. This was a great walk through, and I will be shopping for smoothie ingredients tomorrow!
These green smoothies grow on you. I prefer to juice mine and not add the pulp in green drinks. My go to recipe uses spinach (large handful), 2 celery stalks, 1 cucumber, 2 apples, and half a lemon. Not only does this detoxify but when I drink these on a regular basis it helps me sleep better and my arthritis pain goes away. It's amazing what our bodies can heal when we feed it good nutrition.
I don't think I am quite ready for green smoothies. Maybe later
i myself have not found that dairy products are pleasant in green smoothies. i love dairy smoothies, and i love green smoothies, but my daily go-to is a green smoothie with greens, fruit and a dash of juice. dairy smoothies (especially if i'm using peanut butter) are for treats.
I have used canned pineapples in my smoothie with milk for years. I have never experienced the curdling mentioned on another comment.
Smoothies are awesome...especially since you can take the tips here and create tailor it to something that works for you. I love using frozen chopped spinach or kale, since it adds to the thickness of my smoothie. (Great for when you can't buy fresh, or the fresh you buy ends up going bad because you don't use it fast enough!) Another great addition is canned pumpkin...I make a smoothie with pumpkin, almond milk, froz. banana, van. protein powder, and spices (and froz. kale or spinach if you're up to it.) YUMMY! Another great addition is ground flax seed.
Great recipes!!! Thanks for sharing. Eilee1, thanks for the tip, I didn't know it. Would have made the mistake.
Love green smoothies! Have one almost everyday for breakfast. The days I don't, I miss them and actually do not feel as well. I do not care for kale but you do not taste it in a smoothie with fruit :)
I think that I shall pass on this but thanks for sharing
