WEEKEND CHALLENGES emoticon

1. Keep tracking your cardio here. How much for Saturday? How much for Sunday? --

Saturday -- I worked out back for the most part since breakfast. When I wasn't shoveling something, I was carrying stones or sometimes (rarely) sitting and keeping my DH company while he laid the stones. I loaded 6 wheel barrels full of small to medium stones and carried them to the back and arranged them in the flower beds. We also went down by the river and loaded the trailer with sand (shoveled sand for about 30 mins) and then unloaded it to the patio area where the paving stones went.

2. Take some time to stretch this weekend. Try some yoga - there are some great poses demonstrated here on Spark or at the Yoga Journal website. What did you do? -- I haven't done anything, but I think I will bed DH for a massage. My glutes, hamstrings, biceps, delts are feeling the workout

3. Do you do yoga or Tae Chi? Or any other kind of moving meditation? -- I love to do yoga - sometimes cardio style yoga, other times slow, relaxing yoga

4. Take some time for yourself this weekend and relax. What are some of your favorite ways to relax? - I love to read and crochet.

FRIDAY CHALLENGES

2. Ahh the weekend. I have trouble staying on track during the weekend. The best way to stay on track is to plan for it. Be sure to plan most meals and your workouts this weekend....Since I am a diabetic I have to plan my meals and I must exercise weather I want to or not.

3. Strong thigh muscles protect you from knee injury! Let's do some squats. Coach Nicole does a modified squat using a ball against the wall, and I find my knees hurt less when I do them like that.Done

4. Go drop in on the White Hawks and say hi! Wish them luck - they're going to need it.Done

Holiday Junk Food is finally gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. No more worries about holiday junk food for awhile. 4th of July is fun, but it is all about grillin around here. No garbage. Lots of grilled meats, beans, grilled veggies. The only treat is usually some ice cream to cool things off - I'm workin though, so won't be having any of that.

I have scheduled my annual with my doc and hope to get some answers as to why my thyroid numbers are 'normal", but I still don't lose weight. I'm going to have him run the full gammet of tests as recommended by an Endocrinologist MD I work with down in Vegas. The small town in southern Utah I live in doesn't have an Endo, so I use my PCP and then put him on the spot with a million questions.

THURSDAY CHALLENGES

1. Post your cardio here - how much for Thursday? - about 30 mins walking, 15 mins strength training

2. Do you have a strength training routine? What is it like? - I used to have a very strict regimen, but when I changed jobs - which causes me to have to fluctuate my schedule a lot, I completely stopped. I am trying to get back to it though.

3. I got about 4 hours of sleep last night, so I'm sleep obsessed today - make sure you get enough sleep tonight. - If I am home, I usually do well

4. Do you tend to get enough sleep at night? - no. I am constantly flipping my sleep cycle back and forth between days and nights. It really messes me up.

5. If so, how do you ensure you get enough? - I set a routine and stick to it as closely as possible

6. If not, why not?

7. Do you have any routines that help you get to sleep at night? - reading, crocheting, hot shower

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the "half empty, half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired, "How heavy is this glass of water?" Answers ranged from 8oz. to 20oz. She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold if for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." She continued, "The stresses and worries in life are like this glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed, incapable of doing anything." It's important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don't carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!

I didn't sleep well last night so I don't think I will be working out today but we will see how the day goes.

I like the Lipton little packets of green tea - blackberry and pomegranate, etc. Also drink a lot of unsweetened green tea - and a few glasses of water. I like it ice cold.

feel better less joint pain, ability to keep up with people when they power walk across the parking lot, sleep better, get into smaller size clothes

1. Track your cardio here. How much for Wednesday? -- none for me today. I didn't sleep well last night, and tonight I work. I laid down for about 2 hours to try to nap.

2. Make sure you are drinking all your water. You should be getting at least 64 oz a day. How do you make sure you get all your water? Do you have a special cup or bottle? Do you like it freezing cold or room temp? Do you flavor? ------- I have a special bottle that I use, but sometimes I don't get my water in. It is espeically difficult when I work because we can not keep foods or drinks out at the nurses station.

3. Let's do some ab work today - try a modified plank (look it up in the exercise guide.) How long can you hold a plank? --- I love to do these - I will do a couple when I get to Vegas for work tonight. They are great after a long 2 hour drive to help me stretch out.

4. What are some of your non-weight loss related goals for this year? -- I would love to not feel tired and run down all the time. The hypothyroidism makes it difficult to lose weight, but I also feel tired, cold and run down all the time. Losing weight would help with that.

Missy sorry about the job- dont worry about the gain. Holidays can be crazy. Hope this weeks is better for you

JRBUCH86 instead of getting on floor, use the wall or a door to push off of. Sparks has a demo of it if you need a visual. I do them because personally getting up off the floor is a nightmare for me..lol

Today was sunny but cold. Spring is really coming soon. Sposed to be in 70's over weekend or something like that. I will take it! Time to get a load of wash started and get some kitchen work done.

Sorry you are struggling so much Missy. I will keep you in my prayers. Like you, (regarding the weight gain), I was shocked when I had that 4 pound gain after working so hard out back landscaping the backyard, shoveling dirt and rocks, carrying the stones and setting them. My husband lost 6 pounds. My neighbor joked with me "you probably lost 20 pounds doing all that", but instead - I gained. All of the holidays involve so much candy and garbage and are centered around food. We tried to make this past holiday season more about family and less about the junk food. I bought a very small amount of easter candy, but fixed a lovely Easter Dinner with spiral, lean ham, steamed asparagus, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade whole wheat dinner rolls. We made cupcakes for dessert and then took them with us to a going away party for a friend. Each of the kids got a small dessert.

Don't worry, no more holidays and junk food for awhile. Now you can concetrate on you and your health.

Ugh. I knew I would have a gain - this past holiday weekend was pretty crazy, but I didn't think it would be that much. Yikes. Today is a new day - time to do better.
Unfortunately, yesterday was a rotten day. I have been looking for a new job for 2 years now, and I was turned down a job I was confident about. It was a pretty bad blow to my self-esteem.

I am looking forward to this challenge. I got a clean bill of health from my doctor and now just need to focus on doing whatever it takes to get this weight off once and for all.

Having said that, I did no exercise today. I actually slept almost all day. I guess Easter took a lot out of me. But tomorrow it's back up to the exercise room. And aquafit starts again on Monday April 8th - I love my aquafit!

Good evening Bulls. I see most of us have checked in. Welcome to everyone. It is nice to see so many familiar "faces" in the pasture. Welcome to spring, better weather, getting in shape for summer - oooooooooooops, swimsuit season :(. I'm sure we can all pull it off with flying colors.

Welcome Back Linda - things sort of fell apart while you were gone, but we tried to keep as much together as possible. There were alot of changes on the White Hawks team as well with team leaders coming and going, so the challenges struggled for a bit. I'm sure we can all get back on track and move forward. We are sooooooo glad to have you back in the pasture with us.

I got quite a "work out" in today. Worked out back continuing with the landscaping project. We shoveled and shoveled, and shoveled more dirt and sand and rock. I am so sore. I was out there about 7 hours total.

Weight in Day was today:
LW: 217.6 (????)
CW: 218.4
Gain: 0.8 pounds

I'm glad to be back! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To Lisa and Missy for allowing me the time to care for my ailing mother and her passing, getting through her estate and all that entails. Her birthday is tomorrow, so it will be a tough day for me.

I've been gone so long I feel like I have to get acclimated all over again. I'll do my best to keep up. My life schedule has been topsy-turvy for quite a while now, so need to get some order back in my life. I completely shut down to doing everything except what was absolutely necessary. My house was spotless on Christmas and now looks like a train wreck with the clutter of of family keepsakes and the things I couldn't let go of.

I wish each of you a happy spring and much success during these next 4 weeks! I will take pleasure in getting to know each of you. I'm sorry so many of our "old" regulars are missing, but so glad to see some of you still here. I hope they will return in the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to spark mail me.

My new granddaughter, Ava Irene, was born on Feb. 28th, 9 lbs. 3 ozs., 22 in. long. My daughter and baby came through with flying colors. Much easier than with Kenzie, my 3 1/2 yr. old granddaughter. I will post pictures later.

Good luck to each of you. No "fooling" around this time!!!!

Captains and/or co-captains are not eligible to receive them.

Here is the criteria for Blue Ribbon winners (in order of importance):

1. Posting every day, even if just to say "hi".

2. Participating in daily challenges and questions, even if you answer "I didn't do this" to one of the challenges. (You need to do this at least 5 times during the 7-day Sunday-Saturday week to qualify for a ribbon.)

3. Did you encourage, inspire, or congratulate someone each day? (You need to do this at least 5 times during the 7-day Sunday-Saturday week to qualify for a ribbon.) A simple “good luck to today’s weigh-ins” or “great loss (name)!” is considered encouragement and/or support. Feel free to elaborate more if you wish.

4. Reporting weight on weigh-in day! I CAN’T EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH!!! NO WEIGH-IN WILL BE COUNTED FOR THE WEEK IF YOU DON’T REPORT IT BY 5 P.M. E.S.T. ON SATURDAY EACH WEEK. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Other, more specific, items like streaking, going above and beyond your "call of duty", and just plain being a great asset to your team. I don't believe either of the other two teams even do "blue ribbons" or a variation, there of.

There are also times when the entire team is given a "blue ribbon", just because the team has been so good at following instructions. Doing #1-#4 above sure makes it a lot easier on your captain and/or co-captains of a team.

It's hard to remember to include your blue ribbon with each post, but now that we can edit you can always go back and put it in. Do "wear" it proudly, though.

Please, please don't feel slighted if you don't get one. It’s all about keeping each other uplifted and the scales moving downward and just plain having fun.

Now for the Biggest Loser Rules: PLEASE READ..

1. REPORT WEIGHT WEEKLY...!!!!

2. REPORT WEIGHT no matter what it is, LOSS, GAIN or MAINTAIN!

3. If you do gain one week, you must lose that gain before the next loss counts.

4. PARTICIPATE! It's a team effort, so be there for your team not just in losses, but also in participation in the challenges and the games.

ALL RED BULLS:

THIS IS THE OFFICIAL WEEK 1 THREAD OF THE RED BULLS APRIL BIGGEST LOSER CHALLENGE.

MY NAME IS LISA AND I AM ONE OF YOUR TEAM LEADERS. LINDA (AKA SWEETINDY500) IS OUR TEAM CAPTAIN. MISSY (AKA HI_MISSY) IS OUR OTHER TEAM LEADER AND IS IN CHARGE OF DAILY CHALLENGES, GETTING TO KNOW YOU, ETC.

THIS CHALLENGE WILL RUN FOR 4 WEEKS. WE ARE COMPETING AGAINST THE WHITE HAWK TEAM. EACH WEEK, EACH MEMBER OF OUR TEAM WILL NEED TO POST THE STARTING WEIGHT, LAST WEIGHT, AND CURRENT WEIGHT; AS WELL AS POUNDS LOST OR GAINED.
