I used to love Pomegranates when I was a kid, then I ended up getting a very bitter one, and haven't had one since. I do love mangos though, if only there was an easier way to get them off the stone! :)

We tried the pomegranate and they are different and I would do it again.
We just keep trying different fruits. It is interesting to see where some of them come from and how they taste.

Turtle, I just saw the pomegranate purchase message--hope you like them! I got some myself. Just watch their spurting habits--they can be naughty. There's something fun about eating them--they're like a fruit with secret compartments.

Deb, you are so right, and I did! Ours are at least $2 a piece or more for the fancies in the grocery store, too. But this was an open market, rather than a grocery store, so if you get there towards the end of the day, there's no telling what they want to unload. I once got a whole flat of strawberries for $6.

The only downside is they're been unrefrigerated all day, so they spoil marginally faster (or may)--but at that price, it's still doable, or makes friends even friendlier!

If you ever come to Cleveland, don't miss the West Side Market, with all kinds of great ethnic breads, meat & poultry, and great spices, etc. as well as fresh fruits and veg. Even in the morning, the selection, price and quality are far better than the groceries--but on MWFSa only!

Good morning Hawks!

Well, I've let the week get away from me without much time spent in the nest. I'm going to try harder next week to visit the nest every day. I had a pretty good week, all things considered. With the exception of a couple of cigarettes snuck in here and there, I have been a nonsmoker (mostly) for almost 3 weeks! As a bonus - I haven't been gaining weight.

SW - 258.8
CW - 257.0
Loss - 1.8 lbs.

I'm going to attempt to catch up (at least with the QOTD's - I only did Monday & Tuesday, so far).

Wednesday QOTD-What was your first pet and are you a pet-person today? I think my first pet was a cat. We have two cats now. I love them, but would honestly rather have a pet-free house (husband and daughter bring them home LOL).

Thursday QOTD-Do you have a cell phone, smart phone or land line? I have a cell phone and land line. Like you, Arlene, I refused to get a cell phone for a while - didn't feel the need to be available 24/7. Now I can't imagine not having one.

Friday QOTD-Are you a night hawk or an early bird? What time is your usual bed time? I used to be a nighthawk, but my kids (my son in particular)are early birds, so I have changed with them. These days, sleeping until 7 a.m. is sleeping in. :) I usually go to bed between 10 and 11 p.m.

Katigie - if I got 12 peppers for $3, I would feel like I hit the lottery! Red, yellow and orange bell peppers are usually $3 EACH here!

Have a great day Hawks!

Had my full complement of water yesterday and marched in place.

Did my 25 wall pushups today and went to the market and got a papaya--I've had them before, but not for years! Also, because I went late in the day when the vendors wanted to leave, I got 12 big pepper--an even mix of green, red, orange and yellow--for $3!!! Nothing can stop me from crunching on these babies in the next week!

today's QOTD: I'm both! I often get up at 5 or 6, and do my best work then. Sometimes I have a little dozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzze in the evening, and even if I don't, not usually in bed before 11 (occasionally 1 am)

QOTD Friday- Early bird or night hawk?
Early Bird- I am usually up between 3:30 and 4am. I was surprised to be up a little earlier than that today, considering all the traveling yesterday and the past 2 weeks. I lay down right after dinner and don't usually see 8pm.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - Friday:

Are you a night hawk or an early bird? What time is your usual bedtime?

AOTD: When DH is home 9 PM is bedtime since he has to get up so early. When he’s gone I usually go to bed at 10 or 11 PM. I really don’t get moving until 10 or 11 AM, unless I really have to. These last 2 days I’ve been movin’ early to get the house ready for my dad’s visit, grocery shopping, and fit in a dentist appointment.

Way to go Shelley on the loss.

Dee glad you had fun and made it home safe.

Don't know what all is going to happen this weekend. Waiting for my dad and his wife to arrive. He doesn't drive the Interstate anymore. My sisters and I don't think he should drive at all, but can't do anything about it yet.

We are going to the funeral home today and don't know if we will stay there until evening with my uncle and cousins or come home this afternoon. The funeral is at 10 AM tomorrow. I will let them stay as long as they want if they have to go over things with his brother-in-law and my cousin about grandma's care and paperwork. I think my cousin was helping her mom with this and maybe she will just take this over. I have been getting the challenges done and proud of that. I ate raspberries with my yogurt this morning. I usually don't buy these and my husband eats the ones out of the garden. They are his favorite.

All have a great weekend.

well, the weight didn't change, but my weigh-in day is three days earlier, so perhaps I'll see a drop next week. What I DID see was a one-inch drop in my waist, in only FIVE DAYS! Thank you, Ab-Slide!

I have been so good about tracking this week and doing more exercise that I feel next week really will show weight results--but weight can hide (on me, anyway) in odd places, so waist makes me happier!

Congrats to those Hawks who have lightened their burden already!

QUESTION OF THE DAY - Friday:

Usual bedtime is 10pm. When I have to get up, I need to go to bed early. If I didn't have to work I would be up until 2 am and then wake up around 9 or 10am.
CW 277 a gain of 5 lbs. My bad, no excuses just trying to get back on track.

Angi- If I can post my Challenge start weight today, then you can post yours a day late. :)

I am home. More of me than for a long time, but c'est la vie! I had a great vacation and flew for 14 hours to get home yesterday. Anxious to get back to my routine now.

SW: 207.5
Goal is to remove at least the 5 pounds I gained while on vacation by the end of the challenge. Keeping it simple.

Absolutely delighted to meet Denise in person and speak with Eleni on the phone. Too bad she was feeling too poorly to meet up with me. I was shocked to feel so cold in Florida. I wore my winter jacket until Wednesday, when it warmed up enough for the water park.
I was happy to have only gained 5 pounds this trip considering all the treats I allowed myself, but boy, did we walk! I earned a good size blister on the ball of my foot, but did I let that stop me from trying to keep up with Don and the girls? No way!
I am glad to be home and craving to get back to making better choices in diet and axercise. Don and I discussed getting back to treadmill time now that we have gotten ourselves started with walking while at the parks. I am up for that.

Love seeing all the new names and faces, Haven't read all the posts yet, but I will enjoy getting to know all the new Hawks and staying connected with my old friends.
Someone is doing a great job with challenge questions. Always refreshing to have a new point of view to keep thing alive and fresh. emoticon

Just doing a fly by. I will post my weight at around 8:30, EST. I know I was supposed to weigh in yesterday, but life got in the way of me doing that. OK, such a stressful day that I forgot it was Thursday, if that makes any sense.
I hope it's ok that, just this once, I weigh in on Friday morning.

Is that cool?

QUESTION OF THE DAY - Thursday:
Do you use a cell phone, smart phone, and/or landline?

AOTD: I have a landline and a cell. The cell is basically for my older son to get hold of me. When I don't have it on me, he calls the home phone.

I am not friendly with bugs. God and I have an understanding. Outside I will leave them alone and usually flee in terror. Inside I KILL with a vengence. It was terrible at work in the fall because the spiders would drop down from the ceiling on to the desks and frighten all of us.

Most of us weighin on Friday or Saturday. Today, get plenty of water to beat the bloat. Adding lemon or cucumber to your water can add further benefits and takes the boring out of the taste of water.

Susie- Definitely try the pomegranate. Costco has them already prepared to eat in their refrigerated veggie section. You just eat the little pulp covered seeds.

Sandra- How is it going for you? Any challenges or triumphs?

Autumn- Glad to see you in the Nest.
Michelle- Hope everything is going well. Love your input.

Arlene- Glad you have supportive coworkers. Take it easy and you will quickly regain your strength and endurance. So happy you are healthy again. Praise God.

Shelley- Great job making every category on the tracker. That is rare for me. I either don't get enough fiber or get too much protein. I love having the "perfect" nutrition report.

Eleni- Great job with your 45 minute workout. Very proud of you.

Dee- Love to have you on board. Participation tends to drop off aroud the Holidays. We need all available Hawks in the Nest to beat the Holiday weight gain.

Valorie- Do you like spiders, too? I was a tomboy and was scared of nothing until my femininity arrived in high school. Over time, I started freaking out over snakes and spiders.

QOTD- Just a cell phone.

Katigie- I see you figured out how to upload photos. I love pomegranates, too. I can only eat 1/4 at a time. The first time I tried them, I thought you had to spit out the seeds. My cheeks hurt so bad sucking the fruit off the seeds. I am becoming better at figuring out my fruits and veggies. As a kid, apples, oranges, bananas, and berries was all we ate. My horizons hav e expanded since then.

Well, I did my Wednesday duties--tracked all foods and spent 30 minutes in a combo of dance, stretch and stomping about--and that after a tiring day. Only you Sparksters could have bestirred me, because I just wanted to curl up-but I didn't!

I have a landline and a cell phone. I resisted having a cell phone for years and years - I really hated the idea of being tied to a phone all the time, and being accessible 24/7. I mean, sometimes I just don't want to be reached and I liked not carrying a cell for that reason. Finally this past January I caved and got a cell phone - mostly because I had a couple of scary experiences where I needed to reach someone and couldn't find a payphone anywhere! I will now admit that I like texting, but I'm still adamant that I won't get a smartphone (iphone, blackberry, etc.).

So cute to read everyone's pet stories. Neat to hear about those warm memories.

Did my second day back at work today (was there Monday and had a rest day yesterday). I was STILL feeling dragged out this morning when I got up and went to work. Never recovered from my day on Monday. Grateful for another rest day tomorrow. But it's great to be back and working at something I love. Feeling a bit rusty with the office stuff, but it will come. My colleagues have been terrific.

Doing well with eating this week, but feeling so tired I've neglected my regular exercise a bit. Will get to some this evening before I go to bed, and tomorrow as well.

Hope everyone's having a great week so far!

QOTD My first pet was a descented skunk named Kunky (that probably tells you I wasn't very old). On damp days, there was still a whiff about him--may be the reason I rather like skunk scent up till today. Piercing and invigorating (from a distance, that is). And hence Pepe le Pew was my favorite cartoon character.

Turtletrack, pomegranates require a kitchen towel tucked carefully into your neckline, and a complete absence of white clothing! Generally speaking, half is usually enough at a time. Just cut it into segments, maybe a few more than an orange's four. The red seeds are held in by membranes, but if you bend the points of your section back, it will fly open and reveal a cluster of seeds, which you then scarf up. Repeat as needed!

There's something fun about eating them, and they're a beautiful color. They're very water-filled, and their taste isn't particularly distinctive, though it's pleasant. The membrane is bitter, though, so be sure not to take that in!

QUESTION OF THE DAY - Wednesday:

What was your first pet? Are you a pet person today, or do you have a pet-free home?

AOTD: It was either a garter snake or the lizard that came home with us from Kentucky. We found it in one of our camping boxes. I think we were in 3rd grade. Then some more lizards - Aloes. No traditional pet until we moved during Junior High, a kitten we captured at my grandpa's farm. She was hiding under the tractor. I've been trying to find another cat with her markings.

I've never had an actual pet. My mom had cats but they weren't my pets. I'd like to get a dog but the hubby has really bad allergies.

Our first pet was a dog named Sparky he was my brothers pet.
The one pet that was mine was a baby raccoon named cricket she made this little noise like a cricket. Had her for eight years than we took her to the zoo so she had more room to be outside. The keepers let me go and see her when ever I wanted. You may want to know how I got her, my father saw the mother get hit and killed she had four babies with her they just stayed next to her on the side of the road. They were so small that they had to be feed with doll bottle. My dad took three of them to the DNR post. He didn't tell them of the one I had. Now today you could not do this with all the rules and for good reason. She was 15 pounds when we took her to the zoo and as gentle as a kitten.
I just love animals.
Now today I have a pet Tortoise and his name is Maxwell. emoticon emoticon
