I have one dog, a female blue heeler named Cinderella; a female cat named Izzy; and a male cat named BeBop. We got Izzy and BeBop at the same time. I've posted their pictures on my page, and there's a video of BeBop playing with the water hose too.

I've found when you go to someone's house, it is also their pet's house and you need to respect that. Now, if someone I know has pet allergies or there's a lady I work with who is desperatley afraid of birds, I'll do what I can to ease that for them and if it means putting Oscar (the cockatiel) in the bedroom for the evening, so be it. He'll be fine. I try and "introduce" myself to the animal if the person doesn't.
Speaking of, I really need to get better about introducing my Pollo and Izzy. We don't have a lot of company as a rule and I'm afraid they don't have good New Person manners. Any suggestions?

We have had that and much more, when you have a pet be ready to say I am sorry if something happens to surprise you and your quest. On the whole our guy is laid back after the first few minutes if he is at the door when someone arrives. emoticon emoticon

Some friends of mine had an Old English - Bailey. Without fail when I came to visit, he would go get a big drink then put his head / mop in my lap and goosh! I was soaked! emoticon

My wife's suggestion for Mamie would be to try another vet. We wish we had done this with a shar-pei that exhibited the head shaking like that. Our vet suggested expensive tests that we couldn't afford but thought it might be an inner ear infection. We gave the dog a little bit of Moxicillin but we ran out of it and the vet wouldn't give her any unless he first ran these expensive tests. So the dog never got treated and had it all her life. We should have tried another vet.But the moxicillin was helping her if we had just had a little more. We had a vet once that would go on his instincts and try something rather than the expensive tests first, with our permission. Always worked out.

Wow. I thought I had a housefull. My brother's family has I think 3 dogs, a couple of cats, a lizard of some kind, bird, hamster... Not sure what all else. They live in Tx and I'm in Wash. We grew up in a house w/1 cat. Period. And now we both have multiple species sharing our homes.
The DH wants a duck, he wants to name it Zeus. We have Apollo who in mythology is the son of Zeus. Our Apollo is a bird dog by breed. I just kinda sigh and shake my head.

We presently have 11 cats in the house and 2-3 outside. All but one are rescued abandoned pets or ferals and they range in age from probably around 12 years (only a guess) to 2 years. Mandy, 10, is our 'matriarch' and she and her sister Molly (deceased) were the first cats in our house. Then Jasmine and her 2 kittens (Jesse and Jake) came in 5 1/2 years ago. Then Milo (deaf) and Sam. Then, 2 years later, Sasha (now deceased) and her 3 kittens (Nadia, Piper & Zeus) and finally Dani and Gabby 2 years ago. We'll be bringing in at least two of the outside ones as soon as our last adoptee 'graduates' from our isolation/assimilation room. We have a very small house (just over 1,000 sf) so only one room can be used for this. Gabby doesn't want to leave her 'comfort zone' and she is a very nervous kitty so we're letting her go at her own pace. However, Stripes and Smokey are getting anxious! And then there's Fuzzy Tail, a little long-haired tabby. She's about 6 months old, abandoned, but very aggressive. Not too sure about bringing her in but I WILL have to see that she's taken care of. And that's our animal companions - to date.

Currently I have 11 cats with the oldest is 20 and the youngest is 2 yrs old. I am expecting to be fostering 2 remaining kittens in the next couple of days, that were captured in a humane trap, the people were actually going for the mother (to do a TNR) and did not know she had kittens and the kittens were caught, a total of 5, 3 are now in homes. I do have one dog of approx 14 yrs old, she is actually my elderly neighbor's but he has been ill for the past year, in and out of hospitals & nursing homes. I hope he will recover to the point he can come back to his home and until then Minnie is very welcomed in my home...only wish she would get along with the cats which means I have to keep them separate but I worked out a plan and so far the cats have learned the one area is the dog's and the rest is theirs and I do have hope she can be taught to ignore them at least.

Two weeks ago, we have added a very thin, underweight Rottie mix to our group, so now we have 11. Three dogs, a Burness Mountain dog 8yrs old named Jesse, a 7yr old Shepard/Lab mix named Zebada, the new Rottie mix 4yrs old named Dasha. Our 6 cats, Fuzzy 15yrs old, OG 6yrs old, Angel 5yrs old, Lucy 4yrs old, Little J 3yrs old and Garfield almost 2yrs old. With this we have 2 Betta fish. That is our whole family to date.

Sometimes I look at my critters and I can almost see the heart break that's coming. Izzy - one of the dogs - is having some weird symptoms at the moment that have me concerned. Her head will shake back and forth, not like she has a bug or itch in her ear, more like she's shaking her head NO. That's it tho. No other symptoms. I did talk to my vet and she's stumped. I've had suggestions of a brain tumor or epilepsy. Can't afford to do major scans etc right now and it's not happening a lot so we're on a watch it program right now although I may call the local vet college and see what they suggest.

I only hsve one long haired orange tabby, Ginger. He is 13 years old. He and I are great companions ... I dread the day he won't be with me anymore.
I got him from the local animal shelter when he was about 4 months old.

At present we have 4 dogs & 2 cats. Two dogs are chihuahuas, one part Australian Shepherd, and the other is part border collie,McNab & Australian. Our fifth died yesterday and she was part wolf, part shepherd and was a terrific dog. They get old so quickly it seems. The most we've ever had was 7 dogs as we got a dog for a friend and regretted it later as we found the treatment it received wasn't very loving to put it mildly.

I have 17 dogs right now! Really I am not the crazy old lady on the block. My daughters two dogs live with me, have 2 foster dogs and I raise Poms, and both my moms had puppies 3 & 4 weeks ago! I usually only breed one of them at a time, but they had other ideas this time! They each had 4 pups, so 8 puppies and 9 dogs. All the dogs are Poms except for my little 123lb mastiff/St Bernard mix.
Sometimes it's crazy here, but I love them all.

This evenng at the lake we had five dogs of differnet ages and types but it was fine. The younger retriever loves to chase the ball and my old girls follow him which is good. The young yellow lab kind of tries but he isn't sure yet. Am not sure what breed the little one is but she held her own. So much fun to see them all getting along. Just thought I would throw that in for the evening.

We have 4 dogs and 1 cat. Moe was the runt of a litter of 13 puppies so of course his name had to be marauder! Winnie was going to be my husband's hunting girl so she is winchester. Pepper is our red and black chow chow that is purely a powder puff. And Baccardi was a rescue that is a black lab rottie mix and sooooooo sweet! Bonkers is our red and white stripe maine coon cat that thinks he's a dog and makes us laugh! We are on 2 fenced in acres so there is plenty of room for all and we LOVE them!

We have 2 chocolate lab "girls", as we call them, "the girls". we went to get one out of a litter if 15. Then my son's girlfriend (long gone thank goodness)also took one of the chocolates and she did not take care of her. She broke up with my son and threatened to give the dog to Contented Critters. My son was living with us at the time so we took the dog and when he moved out we kept her, Didn't seem right to separate them plus we already loved her too. They will be 11 next month, a little gray but still active and love to swim at our cabin. End of story

I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 15 Koi that are all desparately spoiled. We pamper our "children" all the time. We buy them the food that they like, and treats, and the oldest one, a 15 yr. old cocker-sheltie mix dog, goes to the groomers to have a hair cut and a bit of pampering there. The cats hate to go to our boarder and groomer, so we arrange for a pet sitter when we have to leave and just take the dogs to the boarder. Our boarder kennels personel love our 3 dogs and spoil them worse than we do. And the Koi are hand trained to come to the surface of the pool and eat out of your hand. They love the fruity treats that we give out on occasion as well as the regular food. We even tend to pamper and spoil the wild birds and rabbits and squirrels that wander in and out of the yard.

I have a ten year old girl cat that I have raised from a 12 day old orphan. She is a strictly indoor cat and is very shy and sweet. We just love her to death!

I want to get a dog from the shelter, but my husband has to go to a specialist every several week that is 100 miles away and it takes all day. I am afraid that if I got a dog, it would bark all day while we are gone. The last little dog we had was insecure and would bark the whole time he was left alone, so I'm leary about getting another dog. I think about it all the time though.

I have 2 kitties that live with me, but I have 30 or more four pawed friends that I sit for. It satisfies my craving for dogs as I can't have one at this time. Pet sitting is a great job for anyone who is retired. The economy, though, has really hurt my business the last couple of years. I'll keep plugging away though.

I have 3 kitties. Alcoa (girl) who is 14 and FIV+ was rescued off of ALcoa Highway in Alcoa TN - thus her name. She is my punk on wheels and frequently forgets her age. She hears mommy say "Alcoa stop climbing the curtains" on a frequent basis. Trouble is my 9 year (girl) princess and diva. The only kitty I purposely got from the shelter - she has had numerous and chronic health conditions throughout her life. Then last, but certainly not least, is Buddy my 8 year old boy who was rescued off an interstate in TN. He is my baby and will frequently beg to be picked up and held like one....

I'm not sure I can count them all. 11 horses, 2mules, 2 donkeys, 42 goats, 5 adult Great Pyrenees Dogs and six puppies, 10 misc dogs, 28 cats approx and a few strays, 40 chickens. I think that is most of them.

I have neighborhood cats that love to snuggle up next to me and meow for me to pet them and feed them.

I have 1 dog, 5 cats and 2 kittens. they all live indoors except when they can get out on the screened in porch. In the winter, we put clear plastic over the porch and on sunny days we can actually sit out there. Janice

We have rescues - 5 cats and 2 dogs
and one of our daughters moved back in and brought her dog and 3 cats - it's a zoo right now but I love them all.
We had 6 kittens born from 2 of our rescues but we're down to 2 and hoping for at least one more good home for 1 of these.

Cats regard people as warmblooded furniture.

I have 3 cats. I had 4 last year but a predator got Ed. The other 3 range from 11 years old to 3 and they are all from shelters.

Had a surgery in July. The weight has been creeping up on me since then. Think I was nervous about exercising. Not an excuse. Seriously was worried about damaging myself. Lost 100lbs back in 2009....20lbs back in past 3 1/2 months. Gotta get active....

Reggie is a golden lab/ golden retriever mix. My neighbor's dog had a litter. My son and I have 2 of the 6 litter mates. They're almost 14 months old and play together 4-5 times a week. I also have 5 cats. Napoleon is 7. He lived at my daughter's until her roommate got a cat that would torment him so he's quite content living at "G'ma's". Felix is 4 and was rescued from the humane society. Kronk and Yzma are 3. They were also from the humane society. The baby is Sweet Pea. She was a stray that I fed and brought her in when she was pregnant. We found great homes for her litter of 6 and I just couldn't part with her.

I have only one dog right now. Maddie who I rescued from a shelter last June. I have lost my other two over the last few month do to old age Scarlet a grand old 18. Went to sleep one night and just didn't wake up. And Samson died because of prostate infection. I miss both of them.

I also have three indoor kitties. Spirit a black short hair, Munchums a black long hair, and Danny a gray and white long hair.

There are three and sometimes four outdoor kitties that I feed. They will let me pet them only if I am feeding them but the love on Maddie when she is outside.

I have 2 dogs - Rusty & Cassie and 2 neighbor dogs that stay here a lot - Bo and Sadie.

I have 2 cats - Dusty (20yrs old) & Katie (rescued after a dog bit her nose off).

I am also keeping Greta, my daughter's cat because she had litter pan/carpet issues at her house and I have hardwood floors - no carpet! So far, over a month, no problems. Katie is loving the playmate too.

You can see some of their pictures on my SparkPage if you'd like.

We have lived on a farm for over 32 years so we've had about everything in our care over the years nursing them back to health.

We once a newborn black angus calf in the living room by the wood stove for 2 days until we could get her Mom feeling stronger. Ever tried to milk a beef cow?? Gotta watch those rear legs! We did it, bottle fed it to the calf, and got them both back together and healthy. First to the barn and then back to the pasture.

We've also had a guinea pig that lived to age 7 yrs, a goat, a lamb, and lots of rescued rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. Most were success stories I'm happy to say. The hardest thing is being careful not to make a pet out of them so they could be released back to their own lives. I'd love to hear about other people's companions.
