I just bought the 30 day shred, hoping it will give me some motivation. I haven't been doing much and settling just for maintenance. I don't care how much weight i lose now, I just want to be more toned. I did day 1 today. I didn't think level one was very hard, even though I pushed myself as much as possible. by the end, i was just starting to get all revved up so i decided to do level 2 as well. LOL.. it was nice, got my heart pumping and my legs and hands shaking. I took measurements today. Will have to see how much change after 30. I am sure I will be sore tomorrow but going to try to stick with it. Hoping that posting here will keep me accountable.

Also, I was wondering how you all tracked it. I did levels one and two so 40 minutes of circuit training?

UGH I'm a punk lol
I did the 30ds Once and then the next night I did a spin class and then the 3rd night I watched recorded VH1 trash :)
I'm not sure what's going on with me. I am eating the right food. In fact that is a HABIT that I gained from SP. I really don't desire my old unhealthy diet at all.
Now I just HAVE to make exercising a habit *sigh*

Andrea, I love it when its over.....You don't want to hear what I have to say during it though (when I have the breath that is) LOL

IN another post you asked how to get a weight loss ticker at the bottom of your posts? You need to go into your Sparkpage and click on Edit my Sparkpage
then scroll down to the bottom ( between where your teams are and Comments) and it should all be there so you can choose your ticker and background. You can also choose whether to display it showing weight lost or actual weight.

Hope that helps!

BFBM is a great butt kicker!

LOL. It will really make you 'gargle your heart', as JM would say.

Circuits 3 and 6 are the ones that I hate the most (mostly because they are the hardest for me) but I feel so good when Iget it done! Whoo! 55 mins of Jillian torture!

I'm so glad I found this thread. I am getting ready to start the 30DS and wasn't sure how to track minutes. After reading the posts I feel pumped(and a little scared)to start. This may be just what I need to get my butt in gear again, Ha,a challenge!

LOL...I know what you mean about the "feel like I am going to vomit once I'm done" Andrea. It certainly can be that way. I call it circuit training under the fitness tracker. I know on the 30 Day Shred team, that most track it under there, and some people who have the HRM's say that the calorie burn when you do them is pretty accurate, to a bit less than you actually burn.

HA! I hear you girl! I worked out to level 1 for 8 days and today I completed day 6 of level 2 which KICKED my butt! I wasn't sure how to put it into the fitness cardio part either. I figured, since it is a 3 - 2 - 1 ratio that it is only about 12 minutes cardio (and I think that is over-estimating. I believe I only burn around 200 - 225 calories doing the 30 day shred. I know it feels like more than that because I feel like I am going to vomit once I'm done. That's how hard I feel like I work out. Does this seem to help?

I started shred on Friday but then got a flu shot that afternoon and haven't been able to do it again. Not sure if I was sore from the video or the shot or a combination of both but I am getting ready to do it again right now. Any tips on how to add it to the exercise tracker? I added it as 20 mins of aerobics but it said I only burned 210 calories and I had to have burned more than that,I thought I was gonna drop dead!

The desire to change must be greater than the desire to stay the same.

I have been doing the 30 day shred for about 4.5 weeks now! I love it! I really like Jillian. I wish she could train me in person and yell at me. I am so thankful for this DVD though, it has got me back to a basic level of fitness so now I can do much more at the gym. Strangely enough, since doing the shred the past month, I can lift more at the gym too. I don't know why since I am using 3 lb weights on the shred but I can now lift way more when I am doing Cybex and free weights at the gym.

It can be done either way. It's up to you.
I'm sure best results would be everyday, plus other cardio as well.

New (ish) to SparkPeople and just did Day one of 30 day shred (Yeah!). Is this supposed to be done everyday? I've heard of people alternating the shred with gym days, but I'm not sure what brings the best results. Any opinions?

It's a Jillian Michaels workout DVD. It's short, but intense. It's 3 levels. I think the assumption is that you do 10 days at each level. Each workout is 3 circuits. Each circuit is 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, and 1 minute abs.

I'm on day 11 and the 2nd day at L2! It hurts, and the moves are all different in L2 than L1-I'm going to stay here for 10 days then go to L3. If I get bored with level2, I may mix it up with L1, or add it to my workout doing L1 &2 back to back.

Keep it up BURN!!!!

I am on D4 of the 30DS....how is everybody else doing?
The dvd claims you can lose 20 lbs-has this happened?
I use it with Jillian's BFBM and NMTZ, which I do on alternate days. 30DS will be an everyday thing for me. I am really liking it right now and am on L1. I'm going to do it for at least a week before going on to L2.

I'm new to spark people-- I can't even figure out how to put the little weight-tracker on my posts! :-)
I started the 30-day shred, and I'm excited about it, too. I'm on Day 2 and it's already less impact than it was on Day 1. On Day 1, I couldn't do it again for 2 days because I was SO SORE I could barely walk down my stairs!! I felt like such a wuss. :-)
Today, I woke up a little sore but not so bad.
I happen to LOVE Jillian Michaels, and I listed to her podcasts, too. Has anyone read her book, "Master Your Metabolism"? Completely changed the way I eat and how I feed my family.

I started the 30 day shred a few days ago and to be honest, the first time I did it, I only lasted 10 minutes. The second day I lasted 12 minutes (even when pushing myself) LOL. Its the jump rope and star jumps that got me.

On day three I did bobs cardio workout, I made it to 15 minutes. After day 3 my arms and legs needed rest.

I am on day 4 of rest, tommorow I should be able to get back into the 30 day shred. I will be interested to see how long i'll last this time.

I have the 30 Day Shred and copied it to my iPod touch if anyone wants it. I take it into my own private room (We have a roommate) and put headphones in and look at the tiny screen and work out in private.

I can't do all the exercises like the reverse crunch, I can't lift my butt off the ground, maybe I'm just not trained enough yet. But my butt and back and theighs are super sore after this. I love it though, it's really fast, not boring, not a whole lot of explaining. Get things done in 20 mins...

Hi everyone. I joined SP about a month ago I am on Level 3 day 23 of the 30 day shred. I lost 9.6 pounds so far! I just got Banish Fat Boost Metabolism I started alternating them a few days ago. I am 181 pounds I still need to loose a lot. My goal weight is 125. Should I be focusing more on Banish Fat or shred for weight loss? I do the whole workout of Banish Fat. I am shocked I got this far with both dvds. I am stronger than I thought.

hey welcome to spark people!! I'm sure you'll like it here, tons of great people & a wealth of information!!
I did the 30 day shred up to day 19, then started doing the 'banish the fat' and the last two days I've done some of the 'biggest loser weight loss yoga'
its all good stuff. I definitely like Jillians stuff the best!

I just joined SP. I am looking forward to being part of the team. I have done the beginner level of the 30 day shred three times this week. I read about it here, so I rented it from Netflix. I bought it the next day. I have been doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a day (every day) since 2/18/08. This program kicked my butt. I can hardly wait to see where it will take me on my goal.

We don't stop playing because we grow old - we grow old because we stop playing.

I'll be finishing day 19 today - whew! Can't wait to get off level 2, although I am seeing results. The best part is that my husband is seeing them as well. Started South Beach diet this week to give the weight loss a little jump start because while I'm losing inches, the pounds are not dropping. The first couple of days were tough, and I'm not saying that it gets easy, but at least you don't hurt as much if you just keep at it.

I ordered this DVD a few days ago but haven't received it yet. I normally don't like to exercise but just keep gaining weight... I think my metabolism is slowing down as I reach 30.
I guess I need to get pysched up to start this when it comes because it sounds like I'm going to be SORE!

Hello everyone. I just heard of the 30 Day Shred today and I am very intrigued by it. I am trying to get rid of this extra 10 lbs. hanging on my body, but am having a very difficult time burning the extra calories (not to mention fighting sweet tooth urges!). I am an active gym member, but apparently have reached a plateau that is keeping me from losing ANY weight at all. In fact I GAINED weight (muscle mostly, but any weight gain to me is still scary).

My question is to anyone that has tried the 30 Day Shred. Does it really help SHRED the fat and is it designed to use 30 days in a row (not skipping any days)?

MEL

I worked out about 4-5 days a week.....I didn't do it everyday...we all need a day or two to relax...
This workout does work, keep up the good work....and you have GREAT motivation for the 4th!! :-)

I did level 1 for 10 days, level 2 for 10 days, then level 3 for like 6 days, and now I am rotating them through! My body can feel it!

WOW Alissa, I think that pic is amazing. you definitely worked hard for it!!

Today I'm on day 19. We've been cycling through the workouts, one day do level one, the next level 2 & so on. So today I did level 3. Really trying to push myself as hard as I can every morning. I know it'll pay off. I remember the day that I could do the double jumprope every time on level 2. I was like 'WHOA! I did it!!' its neat seeing the little improvements.

hopefully I'll have my before & after pics soon. My before isn't that great since I took it myself. but better than nothing.

Definitely feeling better. I feel like i have more energy than I did last week ( when I was skipping days BOO).

I've been sticking with it. I trade out a few days a week to take difficult classes at the gym but since I've started I've only missed 2 days. That makes it about 2 weeks so far. I feel a bit tighter in my midsection and my abs look more defined. I ran some errands after work and really did not feel like doing it at all. I was going to do level 1, but I pushed myself to do level 2. I may be running into a recent ex July 4th weekend at a friends' bbq--now there is some good motivation!

so far I like it, its a nice change from 30 day shred. I especially love the first circuit because its more 'martial art' like, kicking & punching.
the second circuit is good too, haven't really gotten through much more than that. Its good cardio though!! which is what I think i need to get rid of my insulating fat layer LOL

i have noticed that I'm able to tough it out alot better on shred, really starting to be able to push myself & really work it, rather than 'surviving' LOL

I completed day 6 today...think I'll stick w/ level 1 for one more day and move it on up. I can finally stick it out through the whole thing without resting!!! What an accomplishment, I never thought I would get there.

I have BFBM too, I've only done it once but I really liked it. I did all 7 circuits. I just try to zone out so it doesn't seem so bad...That's how I get through the shred too!!

I fell off the shred wagon. I have had a lot going on and have kept up with my running and added in some yoga here and there, but just have not had the motivation to shred. I know I need to-I was seeing great results with it.

I think I am going to shred again today for the first time since early June. I may go back to level 1 and re-start. I was only about halfway through level 2.

Great work to those of you sticking with it and seeing results!

Decided to try BL Bootcamp last night - rested afterwards and then did day 3 level 1 shred - my body is screaming, however, quietly! As we all know, it's difficult to stick with a program. Accountability will make it a little easier. Thanks for any support you can give.

Well I missed Saturday and Sunday but back on track. I find I have to do this first thing in the morning or I don't want to do it at all. The weekend was not a total waste I did a ton of chores on Saturday and Sunday and took a 10 mile bike ride Sunday too.

If you think you can or you think you can't your probably right.

I bought this dvd a few months ago, got my ass kicked by it for a week or so, and then had a shoulder injury that made me stop for quite awhile... then I got lazy! So I started it again last week. Went through the usual ridiculous soreness for 2 days after where I could barely climb stairs. How do you "work thought the pain" and keep going? I knew I needed to give my muscles a few days to recover even though my fiancÚ told me to toughen up!

Anyhow, I biked all weekend and then shredded again today. I cannot foresee doing it everyday for 30 days. I hate to say I lack the commitment but it's true. I'm aiming for 5 days a week or so. I don't do a lot else, except for biking a few days a week with my fiancÚ. Not a runner and not a gym member currently...

Praying for good results anyhow. Would love to even lose 5 pounds and some inches... also watching what I eat.

Will keep up with this thread for motivation!

Shredded Monday I think that was day 16.
all kinds of stuff happened this week. will be shredding tomorrow. We went through all the levels now, so we've been cycling through them. I also started doing some 'banish the fat' by Jillian. Not burning enough fat with the 30 day shred :( thats just me though!! darn stubborn belly fat!!

I did level 2 for the first time last night--whoa, much harder. Those squat thrusts just plain suck! I've been doing either the tape or a difficult class at the gym every day. I like the convenience of the DVD but I also enjoy mixing it up a little with the classes. One full week of doing something every day down and I plan to stick with it. I want to be ready for July 4th!

Hi All! Just wanted to update you on my progress from the 30 day shred. I just finished day 16 and I must say my body is really changing!!! I have been doing the shred along with my regular workout routine. I have done all 3 levels and sometimes change things up depending on the day and how I feel. I have learned that I can do level 1 or 2 and add the weights like in level 3. As far as the weight goes I haven't lost a ton of weight YET, but I went down one size in my pants, shirt and bra!
I have fit this in to my regular daily routine...if you do something for 21 days straight it becomes a habit. I am making this my good habit! So all of you out there keep it up! emoticon

Hi, all! Waiting patiently for my shred to arrive. I've just finished reading all your posts and am prepared to SUFFER! We're heading out for a family reunion on July 24, so I have about 6 weeks left to make a difference. If I've read the results correctly, I should have made some major shape changes by then. Keep up all the good work - also, I'm sure I'll be needing a lot of support.

After being unable to shred since last week (Tuesday), I attempted to do level 2 after a Couch 2 5k run on the tredmill (new week!). Let's just say, my body was not having it. I did the first two circuits and then ended up stopping. My body was just too tired.

Oh well, today is another day. I feel more hydrated today and slept great last night. It is also my day off from running. So once work is over, I plan on doing level two again.

How is everyone else doing?

I've done level 1 for 2 days and the interesting thing is that I don't feel it much when I'm doing it, except for those butt kicks, but by the end I'm sweaty and later my shoulders are sore. I've taken a peek at level 2, which looks good, but I want to get through level 1 at least twice doing full push ups. My upper body is feeling it, the legs, not so much.

Hey everyone. I'm supposed to be on day 17, but i'm on 16. Our schedule got all messed up & couldn't get the workout in.

did level 3 today!! i love the plank stuff, and for the first time mountain climbers didn't aggravate me. for some reason they just drive me insane sometimes.
the plyo stuff like the sumo squat jumps, WOW!! hard!

I've been noticing that I still have a lot of fat on my belly, so I did 5 min of banish the fat by Jillian. it was the kickboxing circuit ( #1) it was fun~!! reminded me of stuff I did in martial arts!!
so I'm gonna workup til I can get maybe 2 or 3 circuits of banish the fat in there too.

I hear you Akyramoto! I see the little changes that are starting and I get so excited to see the big ones! My hips have really slimmed up, but I keep waiting for the love handles to start disappearing. I have a really cute tankini that fit almost perfectly, except in the hip area. I needed one size up, but of course the store didn't have it. I was so frustrated! Instead I ended up with this cute slightly retro one piece.

On Day 13, we took yesterday off. I know i'm building muscle, especially in my arms - cuz almost every arm thing kills me! LOL. Haven't really been sore since the first week.

I do think I need a little more cardio to help burn off the fat on my new muscles. LOL. So i'm going to start jogging. I was wearing a bikinni yesterday & going 'what the H' LOL, I still have alot of belly fat. I can't wait til it's almost flat!!!

overall I feel good though.

I started watching what I ate earlier this month and lost about 11 pounds/10 inches doing that alone. After two weeks of changing my eating, I started shredding. By the end of level one, my family and co-workers were telling me that they could tell I had lost. I am now at 13 pounds lost (18 since December)and I think about 14 inches. Most of the inches have come off my belly/ab area and hips. This is the area that I had a problem with weight coming off before.

I think it is a combo of Jillian's training techniques as well as really limiting my carb intake. I have also backed WAY down on diet sodas and am drinking lots more water. As of last week, I am doing the Couch to 5K program as well. I felt like I needed a little extra cardio and so far it is going well.

After struggling so long to see the scale move, I think I have finally found a winning combination. I know that the scale will not continue to move that fast, but the fact that it is moving is VERY motivating. I am also craving healthy foods instead of junk. Yay for lifestyle changes!

I have never done the plank moves like Jillian's. They were a challenge (I am definitely following the Anita-style lol), but I enjoyed them.

The squats with the anterior raises (v raises)? Definitely killer. The front of my delts are sore today.

Day 11, level 2!!! wooo hoooo!!
i enjoy level 2 much more than one. So far the only one i can't use the heavy weights on is the chair squat with V arm raises, or whatever they are. they kill me!!

i looooove the plank moves. In my martial arts class the personal trainer was all about the core, so we did TONS of plank stuff. Such a good workout!!

Okay, can I just say that the Level 2 plank moves are killer? I had no problem with the walking push ups. Its all the cardio plank moves and then the plank twists at the end! Wow!

This work out seemed to go by faster for me. Way more intensive on my core, but I am not too sore today. I think Level 2 may end up being my favorite.

I track it as 30 minutes of circuit training under cardio in the Fitness Tracker.

I have fairly sensitive knees (injured one of them my sophomore year of high school when I did the swim team, it acts up every six months when the temp changes), but have not had any problems doing level 1. If you have a knee brace you can always throw that on for extra support.

Under 'my tools' at the top you can track your fitness. It's pretty easy to navigate after awhile.

i personally dont have much problems with my knees, my BF does feel a bit of knee strain on some exercises. He makes sure to do the knee circles really well - also the first time he tried those, he went to fast. just do everything nice & slow in the beginning.

there is jumping jacks & jump rope moves. so there is jumping. I know i can make my jumping jacks 'quieter' but not sure about the jump rope part.

in level two there is more jumping, but nothing worse or more high impact that the jump rope & jumping jacks. in my opinion.

Maybe getting a very cushy mat? and wearing good fitness shoes? maybe that will cut down on the noise factor, probably help out the knees too!!

I just keep telling my BF that he just needs to keep doing it, but dont push himself too much to where he might get injured. Theres alot of things his knees haven't done in YEARS, you can't expect them to just hop off the couch & do some crazy exercise. :)

sorry i didn't really answere your question very well - I would say there is alot of jumping, because thats pretty much how you're getting your cardio in, ther is also butt kickers, high knees, and these jumping hip twist thingsy - which i actually think are fun.

Hey guys, quick question for you. I hear there is a lot of jumping around in this video and I wanted to get a sense just how much. I live in an apartment building and I'd just as soon not drive the person in 2K completely crazy! Also, for those of you who felt strain in your knees, did altering the program with the modified moves improve that?

I'm newly single and few things are a better motivator than getting back out there dating.
Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm new. :)

Day 1 of the shred. Started out on Level 1, 5lb weights and adjusted the push ups to "girlie" push ups. The exercises were not too bad, but we'll see how I feel tomorrow...lol. I plan to do the exercises daily (we'll see how that goes) and watch my calorie intake.

Starting at 5'2" and 150.

How do you track the exercises in SP?

I just did day 10 level 2. I'm really not sure level two is harder!! its just different. I like the walk out pushups, and I like the cardio stuff. It really got me sweaty this morning!!

My BF was really tired today, but he just stuck to it & made it through!

So far anything with arm raises KILLS me!! I try really hard to use my 5lb weights on eveything, but sometimes have to go back to my soup cans LOL.

Yesterday was my 4th day and I must admit I only half a$$ed it. But I did notice that i was able to get all the way through the push ups (on my knees) however, the shoulder presses as well as the lateral raises did me in!! And I've noticed my left arm is having to work a lot harder to keep up with my right arm!! Kind of funny how being right handed increases strengh so much!! I'll keep pressing...I'll be counting today as "day 4" and I'll take a day of rest Sunday!!

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Terrie

Okay, so in my 10 days since starting to shred, I have done level 1 5 times. At first I wanted to do it daily, but then I realized life happens...I am still noticing changes and it still got easier as I continued. I am going to go head and move on to level 2 today.

I am looking forward to changing up the routine. I know my legs and glute muscles need work, but all those squats and lunges kill me!

30 Day shred is an awesome work out DVD by Jillian Micheal's. Its 20 minute workouts - there's 3 levels. each level has 3 circuits of 3 min of strength, 2 min of cardio, and one min of abs.

the idea is to do it for 30 days to see some awesome results. Its alot of fun, and really nice since it's only 20 minutes long!!

I just did Day 9, went back to level one - really pushed myself to do full push ups & use 5lb weights on everything. I think level 2 was a little intense for my BF.

Hey everyone! I'm on day 8 level 2. It was the first day of level 2 for me. wow! LOL i felt like I was getting a little too good at some of the stuff on level one - except for not doing full pushups, but still doing full - nose to the floor ones on my knees. I def feel stronger, I even took my DVD on vacation with me. My BF is still right there with me doing it every morning. He's seeing & feeling way better. every day he finds something else on his body that is pretty much like 'wow, this is happening after ONLY a week!!'

level two was intense, just a different kind of intense, it was fun to change it up. We might do level one tonight. We were talking last night about maybe doing level one on top of whatever level we were doing. an extra blast of fat burning. WOOO!!!

I did get before pics & measurements for him. I can't wait to see where he is in a month!!

oh anyone thinking about doing it - just keep going even though you're so sore you dont want to move! LOL we did, we made it & haven't really been sore since, although we'll see how level 2 treats us!!

just my 2cents!!

Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to update you all on my first week of the 30 day shred. I just completed my first week. I am at level 2 now for the past few days. I did take Sunday off. I have been doing spin, running, and other things along with this challenge. So by Sunday I needed a little break. I did pull something in my right shoulder yesterday so I had to lower my weight today. I guess I do feel more toned! I haven't lost any weight this week, but I did eat to much over the holiday... I am planning on taking my measurements after week 2 is finished. I hope this works! I am working my butt off!!! Anyone have a little encouragement for me??? Please send my way! emoticon

Ok...I wanted to add 2 more cents. The first time I did this DVD I thought I was going to die!! The second time I did it was 3-4 days later and it was much easier!! Sunday I redidicated myself to actually starting the program for 30 days straight. I'm actually looking forward to getting home and doing it again!! I also have my beging measurments and weight and I will let you know what kind of results I get after 30 days. My intention is to do it EVERY day but I may take one day off a week.

Does anyone else have results to share??? I know it says you can lose up to 20 lbs...has anyone came close to that???

I just wanted to stop by and say Hi to everyone!! I started reading some of the past entries but I started on page 5 and was working my way up. I started the Shred on Sunday and yesterday I had to take a few more breaks. I was going to do it this morning but could barely get out of bed. I'm feeling much better now, still a little sore, so I'm turning it on as soon as i get home!! Good luck to everyone!! I know it's a challenge but that's what we all need!!

I'm there with you Jen! Tomorrow would be day 3 of level 1 for me but I'm thinking of skipping a day and doing some cardio work instead; I feel like every muscle is sore!! Can't wait to get through 2 weeks!
