Well, I'm starting to be able to breathe again. emoticon I actually got in over 5,000 a couple of days ago when I had to play errand girl at work. emoticon

LifesGreat: see NewLibrarian's walking exercise equivalence post; I wouldn't worry over recording too much exercise, we should all follow your example! emoticon

Thank you for setting this up!

Are we tracking just the exercise we do? Or steps from pedometer? I don't keep track of steps at the moment cuz I figure I already did those steps before my weight loss journey so I only track the actual exercise I do. Then it might be over counting if I add my steps to spark and my time on treadmill, cuz some steps are taken while on treadmill while wearing pedometer.

I am more inclined toward a daily tally format. Or everyday we walk.
I was thinking 2000 steps = a mile from the whole 10,000= 5 miles.
So if I was doing this right now.
I would post Elliptcal 30 minutes = 2 miles
Total from previous 10 + 2 = 12
That way One of us can read it daily and keep tabs on spark goodie rewards.
We have team points for this. I also have scads of sparkpoints.

Googled steps-per-mile and came up with 2000 to 2500 steps per mile. Of course this depends on stride length, but it seems to me when I first got my FitBit Zip, I was told that 10000 steps = 5 miles. Could we go with that? emoticon

Do we need a template, or can we, for example, report every Saturday.

emoticon Happy Daylight Savings Time!

Hi All,
I thought about where I am at right now and guessing I am doing the equivalent of about 15 imiles as week.
I think I am kind of a middle sort of person on Sparks.
I am also thinking we might want to update to something fresh by the end of April.
So my proposal is Walk the Mah Da Hey from March 20th until April 30th.
I will send out Spark goodies for every 10 miles you log on the trail in the forum.
I will see what else I can think of for incentives!
NDCarol suggested a step mile equivalent added to the chart. I will work on that too.
with this 41 days is a little over 2 miles a day to complete but any distance is great and if we have a few over achievers you can try a there and back count.

I will look at that. I would like to let it run a while, maybe March 20th til the end of May which is roughly 80 days. Maybe so many miles a week with spark goodies for incentive, and a gold silver and bronze level for certain total miles, points reached. They had a bike ride fundraiser for the humane society where you could be a Chihuahua, a bulldog or a mastiff depending on the distance.
I will look at some maps and see what would be good. I think the Maa Da Hey trail connects with other networks.

How about a miles challenge where you have to walk so many virtual miles through Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota? There are over 100 miles of trails there. I am not sure how long the spring challenge would be, but you could choose certain trails or a special award if someone does so many miles of them during the challenge. Give away spark goodies during the event. Choosing an amount that is doable in that time frame, yet challenging enough to really have to put in the effort.

Hi all,
I posted a walking equivalent thread.
If the challenge is to walk daily or the equivalent this is how we would measure.
We can set a goal for the challenge, per week, or make it a contest for the full season and I could probably come up with some sort of tangible prize in the form of a gift card or something similar.

I think it's a great idea to have a team goal. It needs to be simple and "do-able." I really like the Spark Streak that was created to exercise at least 10 minutes a day. That has kept me motivated to exercise, even 10 minutes, even when I don't feel like it because I've been doing it now for 150 days and it's hard to stop a streak. So, keeping it simple and easy helps. I don't know what the simple one is, but I will put my thinking cap on.

I am definitely for a spring challenge. exercise minutes or walking miles would be great, then the weight loss should follow.

Thanks for getting it started.

Toni, hope you'll have a speedy recovery from your surgery.

I would be very interested in walking miles. Just not sure how much I can do in March beings I am going in for gallbladder surgery on the 12th. Haven't been feeling well!!! But I will certainly do what I can.

Hey there ND Sparkers!
Let's create a spring challenge.
Spring starts March 20.
Please suggest some ideas here.
I will create a challenge specific thread before the 20th.
Suggestions
Weight loss?
Fruits and Veggies?
Exercise minutes?
Walking miles ( I have a chart at home to convert varying exercise amounts to miles of walking so we could make it equal out)?
Vote for one of these of come up with your own idea. We need to become a team of doers
