Arlene ... I hope your "short term" goal keeps going on and on. I like staying IN on that other team!

Hi, My current goal and maybe a longer goal who knows. It's to stay in a challenge that we have going on in one of the other teams I correspond in. Basically it's to show a loss or stay the same every week. We've got a good group going and it's exciting to see how many of us are staying in. It keeps us focused daily.

For now, my goal is just to log my food and activity every day. I've been slack for so long that even that much is a struggle, and I know I cannot lose weight without doing those two things.

Short term goals for me are to continue walking on the dreaded treadmill and going to the gym at least 3 times a week to walk/jog (wog). I'm seriously thinking about athe Fargo Marathon (5 k only)

Good Plan TerrieJo53! My goal for January is to not let the winter blues get to me. I will go to the gym and get my work outs in for the week even if it is dark and cold when I get off work!!

Towards the end of every month someone starts a new topic with the question, “What are your goals for next month?” We all respond to the post, some of us have goals and some of us are pondering what direction we want to move in during the upcoming month. I’ve done both … some months I’ve had a noble response and some months I’ve had nothing to offer. It's good to set short term goals, just be sure you are staying on track. If you just say your goal is to be a healthy BMI, or to be under 200 pounds you may be months away from reaching that goal. How do you gauge your progress during the months that lead up to reaching that healthy BMI of seeing the scale fall below 200 pounds? If you don't want to set a goal to be a certain weight by a certain date try setting other goals ... like staying within your calorie range X number of days each week, or set a fitness goal to work out X number of minutes a week. How about making it a goal to write in your private journal daily or logging your food and or exercise daily … just for a month. Or maybe you’re falling short on your daily servings of fruits and veggies or consumption of water … you could set one of those as a short term goal. You could change your goal every month to focus on another aspect of fitness and keep things interesting.

January is only a few days away. Not only is it the beginning of a new month, it is also the beginning of a new year. I tend to shy away from New Years Resolutions. I do; however, try to set new goals for myself every September (my birth month and therefore the beginning of MY new year). I’m not saying go crazy and make it a goal to do everything right every day, I’m just saying we should all choose individual short term goals to help ourselves along our personal path to good health, fitness and a smaller waistline. There’s no time like the present to get started on working towards a new short term goal.
