It's really easy to make your own cashew butter. I use this recipe, but I leave out the sugar and substitute in some peanuts instead of cashews to bring the cost down. Try it out! www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-l

I wish they had a Whole Foods near where I live, or at least a Trader Joe's. They are a good hour drive away so pretty impractical and unrealistic. Also living in a fairly rural area (there are a couple citites driving distance away thank goodness at least) I find my food choices very limited. I tried being vegan at first but nearly starved due to small selection around here. I've been happily vegetarian for a year as of April (I eat eggs but buy from the range free, cage free hens. I eat cheese but only occasionally and I use soymilk and the most dairy I have is yogurt.)
I have to get my foods from Walmart and Aldi.
Thankfully I like eating lots of fresh fruit. : D I call it God's CANDY! yummy

I'm on the west coast, so I'm not sure what locally (for you) would carry it. For example, I can find it here at any of the Raley's Food Chains, and Safeway, too. Whole Foods should carry it, but that's a long way to go--I hate going more than 5 miles for groceries. emoticon

Here's tofutti's website (and you can see all the products they have--a real life saver when you don't want to feel deprived--like sour cream, ice cream sandwiches, etc.) where you can put in your zipcode and search within 10 miles of you.

Or if you prefer to look to see if a certain store carries it, try here: www.tofutti.com/loc-list.shtml#

I hope that helps.

Ahh.. cool, thanks for that. I'll put it on my list. I guess it would be at Whole Foods like everything else seems to be? LOL I haven't been there since one is about 30 miles away and it's going to take a specail trip.

Yes, there is almond butter, but it's usually just as pricey as the cashew butter.

If you want a bagel topping, I like Tofutti's vegan cream cheese. You can mix it with herbs and create your own herbed cream cheese for a bagel. Or mix it with sundried tomatoes or anything else you would do with "regular" cream cheese.

is there such thing as almond butter or pecan butter? I'm looking for a bagel topping. I'm not fond of peanut butter and cashew butter is expensive.

What's your 'go to food' that you point newbies to that's always a hit?

ok, so I had another question but I can't think of it right now..(sigh)
