Tips of the Month

* Contain clutter by placing a bowl or basket wherever clutter accumulates. Be sure to empty it and put contents where they belong at least once a week.

* Determine your three biggest clutter items and assign a home for them. For example, number one might be junk mail. It's home will be a basket heading to the shredder once a week. Receipts might also be on your list. Their home will be a designated receipts basket after you've noted "tax" on tax-related receipts.

* Stop digging through that drawer to find what you want. Pull the drawer out and either clean it out and organize it now or set the drawer on the counter or table and handle it tonight after work.

* Save time and money by carrying a bottle of water and a granola bar in your briefcase or bag at all times.

* Keep a file for regular meetings you attend. if you have a weekly meeting with your boss, for example, fill a file with items to review each week.

* As you finish a phone call write down your next action relating to the call. Do you need to make another call or email something? Do it now or write it down.

* Take better control of your time by having a plan for your day. Also, don't plan 25% of your day...it will take care of itself in the form of interruptions and unexpected "emergencies."
