Hay all!

So who is going to run in the Riverbank Run?? I am running the 5k. Thought if there were any other sparkers that were going to run too we could meet.

This will be my first run here in Missoula. And first run in almost 10 years! Last time I ran a race was when I was in high school. Wish me luck!

Do you know where the " Runners Edge" is? They have the papers on the race. It is $15 if you register before deadline. I think one week before the race date.
The high school girl doing it for her senior project is Ashley Mix. The race will be up the rattlesnake.

Hey all!

It's been a while since I have posted here. I am thinking of run/walking in the Run for the Trees on April 3. I not sure I will have enough time to train for it though.

KTANNAR- Do you have more info about the walk/run on March 21st?

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather!

-Melanie :)

Welcome to the group Tracey. I am training in walking as I have a high heart rate, so I am trying to work slowly at it. But there is a run for the trees coming up before the River band Run that some were going to try for.

I am going to be walking in a walk run on March 21 for thyroid cancer. The girl doing that one is a senior in high school and she had Thyroid cancer last year, so she is doing the run for her senior project.

Hi, I'm Tracey. I joined Sparks many months ago but haven't really done anything with it, but now I'm ready.

Is anyone training for the River Bank Run in May? I'm doing the "couch to 10k in 10 weeks" training and I just started week 4. So far I've done all my training at the Women's Club but hope it will warm up enough to start running outside soon.

Hope you are all enjoying the recent warm and sun!

Frost Fever Fun Run/WALK is this Saturday at McCormick Park--Current water park. I hope to meet some great Spark People there.

I guess you can look for me from 9:30 to 9:45 on Saturday morning. I'll wear my bright orange SparkPeople T-shirt. Let's all plan to say hi and touch base. If you know the Currents building, there is a reception desk where folks sign in to swim--Not the office area where we pick up packets for the event.

Let's meet on the north side of that reception desk by the big glass window.

Hope to see you all there...it will be fun!

Thanks Patty, I saw the sight, and am excited about the thought of it.
Enjoy the sun. That is the bad part of missoula, we get fogged in a lot. I love sunshine, and am getting spring fever.

Hi Kathy, Sorry about your dreary weather. I live in Mission and was going to come down to MSO today, but then talked to my son who lives up the 'Snake, who said it was foggy down there. I, meanwhile, was bathing in spring like sunshine. So I decided to stay home. It's not at sunny this afternoon, but it's still pretty nice.

I posted the link to the fun run in my previous post. Hope to meet you there.

Hi I'm Kathy, I loved the sunshines. Perfect day to share them. It is so foggy out where I live, mullan road.

Thanks for the update on the race. I will see if my daughter wants to do it with me, maybe we will see you there. I will have to work hard the next couple of weeks to get ready, but it sounds fun.

Missoula? Are you there? It's been two weeks since our last post. Hmmmmmm....Here's some sunshine to bring everyone out from under the warm covers. emoticon

Here's another one just for good measure.... emoticon

I hope everyone is doing fine in Missoula and is training (ie walking around a bit) for the Frost Fever event. It will be such fun....I'll bring the hot chocolate.

Take care and let this little Town Team hear from you.
Missoula is the best place in the world to live. Can I get a hoooo-ya!!!!! LOL!!

Seriously, take care and stay warm. Spring is just around the corner. At our Missoula Bike club meeting last night we were finalizing our Spring and Summer rides calendar. We start in February!! Hope to see some of you braver souls there.

Well, it's been 205 days since I last logged in that I had to have my login and password sent to me. I have just been so busy. I need to start on this again. Read through the thread and saw a few familiar faces, so hello again.

You have a clean slate every day you wake up. You have a chance every single morning to make that change and be the person you want to be. You just have to decide to do it. Decide today's the day. Say it; This is going to be my day.

Melanie, There is an REI next to the Albertson's on N. Reserve. Sorry, but we don't have a group that gets together to train at this time. Hope to meet you at Frost Fever. Patty

Hi Melanie, I do 5k's pretty regularly. As I've said before--I don't compete, I participate. I cannot run--too heavy and a bad knee. I like to sign up for them because they get me motivated to keep moving--and I like the T-shirts.

For cold weather clothes(above 30F) I usually wear a pair of warm weather running pants from REI. If it's colder than that I wear a pair of long johns under them. I wear Smartwool socks. I have some trail runner shoes with good tread, but as I said, I'm not running....I'm walking.

For my top I wear a long sleeve thin Smartwool T-shirt or a silk long sleeve undershirt. I wear a long sleeve cotton T over that for layering. Depending on how cold it is, I will wear a final layer of a polar fleece (only when there is no wind, cuz wind goes right through polar fleece). I have a wool vest for really cold days that can be layered under or over my North Face jacket, that is water/snow resistant. I don't wear even my light down jacket to "work out" because it's too warm after a short while.

For my neck I always wear a bandanna. That keeps my neck warm, but it also covers my nose if it gets cold, and my cheeks if the wind is blowing. I like to wear a baseball cap, over which I put a polar fleece headband/ear warmers. But, on colder days I just wear a fleece beanie that pulls down further than the headband. It's not a fashion show out there....it's about surviving and thriving!!

Hope that helps. Please join us for the Frost Fever on January 30th. It will be great to meet you.

Patty

Everyone in Missoula must be hibernating in this cold, which is completely understandable....I didn't notice any of you Missoulian's responding to my blog or offering your own brand of Zoo Town Fun!!

My blog was pretty much cycling season specific, so that doesn't help anyone this time of year. I need a lot of help with that, cuz winter is hard.

Wake up everyone....come dance in the meadow with me and pretend it is springtime....... emoticon

Hello. I haven't been using sparks enough. I just wanted to update. I've lost about 10 lbs in a years time. Really slow. Have disability that prevents me from walking much. So it is really slow getting it off. Just thought I'd update.

I lost two more punds. Which puts me at 118 lbs. It may not sound like much weight but keep in mind I am only 4'9" tall. So ten pounds on me would equal 20 pounds on someone of average height.

Thank you for the Milltown dam run info. That sounds like fun. I've been wanting to see the new trails.

BTW (by the way), PB=personal best, PR=personal record

To follow up on the Run for the Trees info I posted: Remember I said I tried not to turn in my tag when they wanted me to because I started early....well, yesterday I was told that the walker who took first place never came up when their number was called to get their trophy/award after the event. We figured it was me. I'll have to go to the website and check it out. I left right after the event, but the time they would have had for me would have been about 32min. Can you imagine!!? Walking 5k in the time it takes most runners! OMG! Well, I screwed up and next time I will cover my number so they cannot record it before I'm ready. I'm sorry for the second place person who got scammed out of their trophy. Darn!

EDIT: I just checked....I'm leading a 50 miles bike ride on the 18th. I'll catch the next Superfund run.

PB or PR!! huh?
glad you had fun.

yeah, once you are into the timing system at the end of the race, any deviation will screw it up. and believe me, people know their time to the 100th and aren't happy if the race officials drop the ball!

Run for the Trees was great for me!!! PB or PR!!

I found out how to do these 5k's as a walker...leave 15 minutes early. Then you get a chance to see all the leaders go by and you are really part of the event...otherwise I'm at the back of the pack and don't see any of the action! I should have stopped as soon as we came out from under the railroad bridge and waited 15 minutes to come into view. Those crazy kids at the computers entered my number as soon as they saw me and made me turn in my tag. I told them I started early and wanted to wait to turn it in but they were adamant and so my time will be way skewed. BUT...it was a personal best/personal record for me. WooHoo!.

I looked all over for you Julie. I even learned your number was 1258. I didn't see you. Sorry we keep missing each other at these events. Maybe someday. Hope you had a great run.

Absolutely, come rain, sleet, snow, etc, etc! emoticon . I'm really looking forward to it. Any of my old friends that I haven't talked to in a year or so would be so shocked that I'm breaking a sweat regularly AND ENJOYING IT! I'll be bouncing around in my latest Monte Dolack finest! DON'T forget the gloves, it gets cold on the river.

hey you marathoners...are you talking about walking or running the marathon? Either way--wow! What a great goal. I have heard the training classes are great, running and walking.

I walked the 1/2 last year, great fun. Will be out of town this year, darn! Always looking for walking buddies, give me a shout if you are interested. Have some ideas for longer walking routes around Missoula that we did for last year's training if you are interested.

Bill & his wife are really great, I did the walking class last year. I discovered that the scheduling didn't work for me, I'm not a early saturday morning sociable person. In any case they really know their stuff. My usual schedule at the Peak is wed/thurs after 5pm and sunday afternoon. Hope to see you there.

Hi Julie, We missed each other at the Frost Fever run, but I'm signed up for the Run for the Trees. Let's touch base with each other there, okay? You're right, the tshirt picture is wonderful. Hope to see you on the 4th of April. How 'bout the others that met up at Frost Fever in January--you up for another SP gathering?

Patty

I like to bicycle too, but I'm not a "cyclist" for sure. Last summer when gas was so high I biked everywhere, but it was the first time riding in 15 years. I wouldn't mind a buddy to bike with, because I certainly am no runner (and/or a buddy to walk with)

Hey Everyone. I hope you had a beautiful weekend. I see there's a lot of interest in running on this team and thought I might put in my two cents for cycling. Are there any other Missoula bicycle riders out there?

Julie, you should join Run Wild Missoula, if you already haven't. They post runs through out the year. The River City Roots Run is the end of August, just a 4 miler but a fun event. Then there's the Diva Day run the first Saturday in October- a 5k but fun for all women.

My daughters & I will be at the run for the trees. It looks like I'll have a car load, it really is a kick. I'm planning on actually running this year! I saw the t-shirt design. It's motivational all by it's self. I'm collecting good shirts!

I was wondering if anyone would like to join up for the River Bank Run in Missoula in Mid April?

I did it last year and it was lots of fun.

I will post the link later if anyone has a interest?

Nancy
