So happy I am finding time to volunteer at the local Senior Center now that I have been approved by the county. Tomorrow night is the 1st Walk committee meeting for the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer's and I am hoping we have new faces join our crew. Keeping my fingers crossed my mom will feel comfortable enough now to attend with me. emoticon

Heard thunder and lightning last night with our warmer temps but its still winter here in NC which means we are in for more snow and ice within 10 days if old wives tales are true.

I live in Jackonville, NC and have been on the Walk to End Alzheimer's - walk planning committee now for 3 years. There is only a handful of us who volunteer for the committee but we are mighty and passionate about making a difference. I have been super busy trying to reach out not only to Jacksonville but surrounding towns which not a lot walk committees do, its time consuming but I am determined to make a difference and know small towns have more dementia and Alzheimer's disease casualties. Our walk is this Saturday at the Jacksonville Commons so if you are in the area registration starts at 9am and I will be at the Promise Garden table. Love to have all come and join to make a difference. 1 mile walk.

I live in Fayetteville and am looking for some great trails. I have walked the Cape Fear trail but I'd like to get opinions regarding your favorite place to walk/hike. I have a Lab that loves to tag along :)

Thanks for your message. His cardiac rehab went well Monday with him moving up a level in their program. Yeah! My being on SP is helping both of us as he needs to shed some lbs. (as do I) and he is supporting my diet menus.

The best thing that could happen...my husband develops all the collateral arteries/veins he needs to improve his exercise level. Hoping cardiac rehab does the trick!

Wow. Didn't know that there was anything near Lillington! My nephew is graduating from Campbell University this week end so I will have to find Raven Rock. I've been away from Sparkpeople for about 2 months. Time to catch up.

We live very close to Lillington, NC and Raven Rock State Park is there! Miles of hiking trails and the Cape Fear river! It is a fabulous way to hike and exercise while seeing the most beautiful place around! :) I used to frequent there about 4 times a week. We started schooling at home so I don't get there too often now. :(

We also have San-Lee Park in Sanford, NC. There are also miles of hiking trails AND bike trails. They have paddle boats in the spring, summer, and fall months as well. There is a little park for the kiddos and hopefully soon, they will rebuild the animal exhibit. (It burned down Thanksgiving day 2 years ago.).

:) WE LOVE NC!

I am so blessed! I pray for many blessings for each of you as you journey through your life.

If you're looking for some "Spring" in your step, consider a visit to Tanglewood Park in Forsyth Co. They have a large dog park, trails, horseback riding, picnic areas, playgrounds and paddleboats. I'm thinking by April, the Arboretum and childrens garden behind the Manor House(a B&B) should start to blossom. And later in June the rose garden should be of interest.

You will love Dupont. It is very hard for me to get around but some of the falls were not bad at all to get to. Also if you go through Brevard to the Blue Ridge you will come across Looking Glass Falls. This is the one I like the most. I lived in Statesville years ago and loved the walking paths they had there. As you walked there would be areas to stop at and do different exercises, made for a good time. We have walking paths here but not like that one.

I would love to see the Map when you have it ready. There are still so many places we have not been to here.

It takes teamwork to make the dreamwork.

Thanks for the Hendersonville things-to-do. I'm starting a North Carolina wall map and saving these suggestions. I used to live in Black Mountain so I'm familiar with the Biltmore house. My husband worked there back in the day when they had dairy cows (I tease him that he's such a fossil). I've long wanted to do a waterfall tour so Dupont forest is now on my list!

I live in Hendersonville, which right now is nothing but an ice rink. In September we have the apple festival - really great time and runs for three days. We have many other days where main st. is shut down for antique, arts and other displays all along main st. Also we go to Dupont forest for all the great waterfalls, up by Asheville is the Aboritum, Blue Ridge park way and Biltmore house. We have not done the Biltmore but have heard that it is great. We don't live to far from TN., so we do go over to Cades Cove often.

We really love the area as there is so much to do and most cost little to nothing at all. What we did when we moved here is put in the names of different areas to see what was going on. Lots and lots of information.

Enjoy, MJ

I live near the Stokes/Forsyth county line and love all you mentioned. In Stokes Co. we recently had the polar plunge at Hanging Rock State Park.

Hi to all. I really want to explore more parts of our state in 2016 so I'd love to hear from everyone about events or places to see in your stomping grounds! I live in Forsyth county. For instance, in my area, we have the River Run Film festival in Winston-Salem, various wine festivals, Spring Folly and the Honeybee Festival in Kernersville, plant sales and Spring bulb extravaganza at the Paul J. Ceiner Botanical Garcen, and various 5ks. So tell me what makes your area interesting!
