Useless gadget = cappuccino machine

Way too many parts to clean. I finally boxed it up for the local thrift store and reverted to using my regular coffee maker.

I'm probably the last person in the US to buy one, but we recently got the George Foreman grill and it is great! Makes healthy cooking so easy!

First, I'm going to start by cleaning out all of the cupboards. That should take a few days! LOL

I'm adding a lot of red to the kitchen - new dinnerware, utensils, rugs, tea pot, etc. I also ordered new pots and pans. My appliances are ok for now, but in the next couple of years I'm going to switch them out for either black or stainless steel. Haven't decided yet. I'm also going to have my handiman put in a ceiling fan and install slide out drawers in my pantry. New flooring is in my future but that is going to be a project that I tackle when I'm ready to put in some new carpeting in the dining room.

My initial goal is to have a workable kitchen where everything has a place (besides my counters) and I have room for some healthy food prep.

My food processor and stand mixer sit on the cupboard,.,,it's almost like an appliance cupboard, away from the main one...if I had to drag it out each time I wanted to use it I'm sure I wouldn't use it as much but it does save time.

I guess I need to find a book or something that gets me using mine more. Otherwise it will be banished to a cupboard.

My food processor gets used on a regular basis. Making baby food, chopping nuts, slicing potatoes, making coleslaw, making sandwich spreads, making tomato sauce, etc etc

I have a food processor that just sits there. I'm sure that I'm missing a ton of things I could be doing with it, but it is never something I reach for. If slicing up veggies, I usually grab my salad shooter or my V slicer.

I'm up for ideas on what to use it for.

Question of the day -- what kitchen gadget have you bought in the past that really was the most useless item that you never use and why?

Wow, tough question. Electric ones: Cuisinart food processor, Cuisinart Griddler and rice cooker. Non-electric : can opener, steamer, grater.

When I take off some time later this month, a kitchen declutter is on the docket!

If you could name the top three kitchen gadgets that you use most, what would they be?

It's so much "freeing" to declutter a kitchen, or any space for that matter. I think it makes you want to use your kitchen more after it is more user friendly.

I got my dehydrator and so far have done pineapple, apples, strawberries and banana...so delicious. It's like candy with no added sugar.

Well-we certainly need to toss a clutter of kitchen gadgets but do use the food scale on top the counter for everything .... even weighing things to mail....LOL!

Also have assortment of measuring cups & spoons used daily.

WAY to many 'storage containers' minus lids or lids minus storage containers...have you seen the commercial where you open a cabinet and all the plastic wear comes tumbling out....???? I think it was filmed here! emoticon

Seriously need to thin it down!

Moe -- Your "I lost 50 pounds" icon says it all!! You aren't bragging -- you are inspiring!!

I didn't get to my kitchen this week as planned. As a matter of fact, tonight was the first home cooked meal I've had in over a week and I didn't even do the cooking! This week isn't looking a whole lot better!

I've been cleaning out my parents house and really found out how much junk can accumulate over the years. Today I cleaned my mom's kitchen and emptied out all of the cupboards. After 8+ hours, I can say that I am in no hurry to wrap up another dish or glass!!

We should be done with the packing by next weekend -- a few more nights should take care of it. Then it is some upgrades to the house -- thank goodness we are going to hire someone for that job!

Once we are done with our daily packing parties, I'm going to keep going in my own kitchen.

I'm proud of my kitchen.....have done a pretty complete makeover since January. Lucky for me my husband is fully on board. We have dejunked our food and now, for the most part, have healthy food. We still have some whites, but use them to feed the "outsiders" (lol) in our extended family who don't like "browns". It's a good way to get rid of them.

I've always been a Cuisinart Queen, as my friends call me. I love kitchen gadgets and since we cook all our meals they sure come in handy.

We are really into food preservation and love to freeze, can, and just now ordered a food dehydrator. Our goal is to eat 90% of our food from whole foods. We have a big urban garden in the summer (of course) and this year we hope to be more creative than ever.

I never believed before that you had to not have junk food in your house but now that I have none it is so much easier to eat healthy...even if I sometimes eat too much.

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm bragging because that's not my intention. I am happy with the changes because it makes it so much easier to eat healthier.

My kitchen could use a cleaning out of things I don't use, but hey, that's 30 years of clutter! LOL

I will say that I have my scale on top of the counter at all times, and my measuring cups/spoons handy!! I love my microwave too!!

DH & son are "on board" as they need to lose a few lbs too, however, they like to snack as well, so I just have to learn not to partake!! I'm doing way better than I've ever done, so at least I'm moving forward. They will eat anything I cook for them, so that's a plus. I'm just better with keeping things more basic - not adding a bunch of ingredients, etc....it's easier to count for me!

Diana, my dh is only partially on board as well... we do a lot of split meals... a lot of time I use a divided baking dish. My side has spices on the meat, his has butter like on fish or bbq sauce/soup on his meat... a lot of times he won't eat veggies, and find it tedious to cook veggies for 1 all the time, i tend to cook up extra so I can grab & reheat for an extra meal or 2...

I have a bad case of the I want its when it comes to kitchen gadgets.. have you seen the tv infomercial for the Baby Bullet???

man, I want one & don't even have a baby!!! LOLOLROFLMAO!!!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon i have a $15 mini chopper that I use for salsas & things that need more than a knife chop...

Randy, speaking of minimalists... i have been looking at things for double duty... finally gave up my teapot that I was always shuffling around out of the way after i saw gramps boiling water in a small pot... but of course!

what I reallllllllyyyyyyy realllyyyyyy want to save my pennies for is a stick immersion blender for making soups. I made a carrot soup that I had to put in my little chopper in parts so it wouldn't spill out & over... the blender was buried at the back of the cupboard & is so cumbersome & heavy... i just didn't have the umph to get it out... I started with the potato masher but it needed more than elbow umph... this next fall, I want to experiment with butternut sqush soup, maybe some pumpkin soup... and I saw someone make asparagus soupd that looked yummy!

My favorite tool in my kitchen is my countertop convection toaster oven. I can quickly broil, bake, or "grill" my dinner while I am preparing the family's dinner.

I am having challenges with them being on board with a healthy style of eating. So, when they insist on their fried chicken or fish, lasagne, etc I have a tool to cook mine also.

My next favorite tool is my magic bullet- I puree veggies and throw them in everything saucy- spaghetti sauce, chili, stew, soup..... etc (I have even pureed cauliflower and put it in mashed potatoes). Just because they refuse to come on board, does not mean I can't sneak in extra veggies without them knowing it.

My kitchen is in pretty good shape as far as the food in the fridge and the pantry. I have a scale and measuring cups and spoons that need dusting off though. My son bought me Paula Dean cookware for Christmas and I am loving it. I have been doing a lot more cooking and trying out new recipes. Now, I just need to dust off the scale and measuring utensils and do some portion control.

My kitchen is in pretty good shape but there is always room for improvement... Dh and I have been a bit lax in the use of our scales so those are now going to sit on the counter top instead of in the cabinet. Also, I have stocked my spice cabinet with an olive oil mister and just about every spice/seasoning you can think of!!! My George Foreman is also on top of the counter as this gets more use than any piece of cookware... As for the "non-friendly" food items... they are no longer welcome in my house, we are finding healthier options to foods we like i.e. Pop Chips - if you haven't tried them - do so, the salt and vinegar are very good! If we don't have the junk in the house then Wade and I won't be tempted!!!

no bragging -- but my kitchen is in pretty good shape.

My scales are on top of the microwave -- and they are used often.

under the microwave is a drawer where I keep a steamer, measuring cups/spoons.

Just went to the store and got some healthy things to take for lunch this week.

Still wanting to minimize some -- so will look at the cabinets and see if there's so things that aren't used.

I need a kitchen makeover! My goal by the end of the week is to clean off all of the stuff that is just taking up space on my counters and to find a new home for the items that will help me cook healthier, such as my scale and my crock-pot (working woman's best friend!)
