As soon as possible! I could probably do a nursery with neutral colors, for me it's the clothes. I want to know if I'm buying girlie stuff or boyish stuff!

That's a really good question. I'm not pregnant yet either, but being surprised sounds fun. Whether I have the strength to not scream "OK Tell Me! I can't take it anymore!" is the question. But yea, i want it to be a surprise....though I'm praying for my first child to be a boy lol. But unlike Relentlesstoday lol, I LOVE YELLOW, ORANGE, and GREEN so designing a nursery with one of these colors will be great lol!

I am undecided as well. Since I am not pregnant yet it's hard to decide. Several of the people I am close to have had hunches about the gender of their baby, and they were right. I'm thinking that I will want to confirm that hunch if I have one. My husband wants to know. And, I don't like yellow, orange, or green all that much. I guess I'll have to so I know what colors to buy. The gender neutral ones just don't appeal to me as much. emoticon Hopefully in August or September!!

We will totally be finding out when we're expecting. For one, my husband is convinced we will have girl(s) (We're planning to have 2). Or, at the very least, he's convinced a girl will come first.

I do think this is from his deeply rooted fear of not wanting to name a son something he would hate, Haha.

I don't care (really) either way as long as the baby grows up happy and healthy, but I would like to know for planning purposes. I am a clearance queen :)

DH wants to find out, but I want to wait. So, when it's time for that ultrasound he'll look and I'll turn my head. But knowing me, I'll probably pester him into telling me.

We are finding out what we are having but are not telling ppl the name. We have names selected and would like to be able to coordinate what we purchase, granted we have a theme that we like and it really could go either way.

I am not even pregnant and am dying to know the sex of our first baby. We adopted two boys a few years ago, so I am desparate for some estrogen in this house! Of course I will be thrilled with a healthy baby regardless of the sex, but I would just be giddy with a girl!

Its funny about dreams. Ive had dreams of giving birth to twins and triplets... in all the dreams I am crying because I am so tired! I hope it is not a glimpse of whats to come! :D

I had to laugh when I read your reply HillaryRoxanne because me and the husband are totally convinced that our first will be a girl as well. We've always just thought that, and had many dreams about it. And then the other night I had a dream that we had a baby and it was a boy and I was in complete utter shock.
I've always said that I don't wanna know, that I'd like to keep it a surprise, but husband has always said he wants to find out. I guess I'm on the fence now. lol.

I want to find out, but I don't want to tell anybody else. My reasoning... I strongly dislike pink! It isn't just a dislike for me, it is a principal! I have said for nearly 10 years that I 'hate' pink. Hate is a strong word, because it is just a color, but I do have strongly negative feelings toward the color pink. Therefore I will be keeping the sex of my baby to myself. That way, if it is a girl then people won't buy me pink! (yes, I know, I will probably get something pink along the way, but that will cut it down!) Also, if it is a boy the first go around, I still won't tell because when I have the second one I don't want people to know/assume it is a girl if I don't tell then!

lol yes, I am crazy... it is hereditary though! lol

The more I think on it, the more I'm convinced that I really should find out in advance. I have my heart so set on a boy, that I think that at least if I were pregnant with a girl, knowing that in advance would give me time to prepare mentally.

Gotta find out! I'm so convinced that our first will be a girl that I would be one of those women that says "That's not my baby!" when they tell me it's a boy. If he's still inside, I can't deny it! Lol Of course we will love either equally. It's just a really strong hunch. emoticon

My husband and I were both against finding out the gender. When we went for an ultra sound they discovered a complication and we later asked for the results printed. We asked the doctor to black out the gender but unfortunately he had missed a spot and we found out we were having a girl.
Or so we thought. Ultrasound confirmed girl, but when I gave birth HE was anything but a little girl! My lovely mother ran out and bought me a bunch of BLUE clothing so DS didn't have to wear pink. Luckily his room was painted yellow with red accents, but I did have to take the name off the wall :)
We are TTC now and have decided to just not find out..

I'm a little torn. I would like it to be a surprise but when I register for a shower I'd like to choose the decor right instead of just doing a neutral room. I love the pink and brown decor or blue and brown. I'm not a huge pink person but I like the 2 colors together. My DH wants to know. So we'll see maybe I'll let him know and I won't find out I don't know yet we have plenty of time to think about it.

We went back and forth about this and decided we will find out. We will be doing a neutral themed nursery so we can use it later on. However, we also decided that we will not tell ppl the name we have selected. That will be the surprise:)

Nope. We're not going to find out. We plan on doing gender neutral stuff anyway so we can reuse it for future kids, so it doesn't matter for us in terms of preparing. The only exception may be if we're having multiples...then we might find out...only because we're going to need all the preparation we could get.

I will definitely find out.
Everyone talks about the "surprise factor" when it comes to finding out, ultra sounds, planning, clothing, names... etc. My opinion on that is: Whether you find out during an ultrasound or on your last push... you're going to be surprised. So why not find out earlier and call your child by name and mentally prepare ahead of time?

I will definitely be finding out. I am the type of person that snoops for christmas presents or tries to pry infomation out of others (I know I am bad). I want to have the room decorated and since this is my first, I want to get presents that will work for the baby so that I won't have to buy as much. If the U/S is wrong, well that'll suck, but the later that you get them (I've heard), the more easily the info can be interpreted.
I really want a little girl...here's hopin'

I've thought for a long time that I wanted it to be a surprise, but now that I've gotten closer to TTC, I think I might want to know. Especially since I have my heart set on a boy (it will be the first grandchild on my side of the family, hopefully, since my brothers are much younger, and it would more than likely be the first boy on my husband's side - with four girls already). And, being 11 years older than my oldest brother, I feel like I know so much more about raising boys. But how do those who have been there, done that, and didn't find out deal with everyone who seems to just expect that you'll find out the sex of your baby at the first opportunity?

I know a girl that found out the sex at the baby shower her sister was hosting. They had the ultrasound sealed in an envelope at the dr. office then mailed it to her sister. Her sister was to dye the cake batter pink or blue depending on the sex and then frost it with white. At the baby shower they cut into the cake and saw the inside was blue and knew they were having a boy. I thought that was a really cute idea. Not sure what they did about registering for stuff but the sister probably handled the details of that too. They are preggo with baby #2 now so I wonder if they will do something fun like that again.

Thats a good question. I guess that it is smart to not take all the tags off and keep gift receipts just in case you have to return stuff. I think I will decorate the room relatively neutral colors- green, yellow, blue.
It would sure throw me for a loop though. Honestly, if I get pregnant with a girl, I would rather them tell us it is a boy. My husband is going to be much more nervous if its a girl and I think he would just worry more than necessary if we knew it was a girl ahead of time.

I'm just curious, to all of those who want to find out to "prepare" what will you do if they are wrong? In Canada, they will not tell you during the u/s. The tech is not allowed, in Ontario, its actually illegal for them to tell you. A radiologist has to read it and if they aren't 100% sure, they won't put it in the report.

So if you found out say, you were having a girl, but it was born a boy, what would you do? I would have a REALLY hard time not doing the room. I think I'd pain the walla a nice neutral color, and then wait til the baby was born to put up like a border or wall decals. I'd have to buy the clothes. Can't help that, but instead of de-tagging and washing everything, (whihc is my FAVORITE thing to do lol) I'd have to leave the tags on just in case. Of course I'd have a few neutral things to pack in my diaper bag. I had that unsureness and they told me 100% they saw testicles, it was a boy LOL But I still had that slight doubt so all the new clothes I had stayed tagged. It wasn't a huge deal as my first was a boy so I had all his stuff anyways. I'm just inter3ested to know a back up plan!!

I could barely wait to find out what my sister was having, there is no way I'll be able to wait with ours!! Plus I really want to be able to buy all colors, and know if I'm getting dresses or not.

I think if I was having a 3rd baby and already had a boy and a girl then I might be able to wait for the surprise, but not before that!

I will def want to find out! I'm such a planner and I'd want to be able to have the room ready for either a boy or a girl.

Oh, I will find out ASAP when we get pg!!! I hate surprises, and I'm a total planning freak, so I have to know. DH and I are hoping for a girl. He already has 2 girls from his first marriage and has no clue what to do with a boy. He jokes that he'll make them put it back until it's a girl, if it turns out to be a boy.

I'm a total planner too and like to have control of everything in my world. However, I'm finding out that there's not a lot you can control when TTC and maybe it's a good thing to just let go. I'd like to be surprised, but may cave when it comes time. I think I'd still do a neutral room even if I knew it was a boy or girl since i like yellows and greens.

I want a surprise, but my husband would have to know. He threw away his entire dramatic engagement plan because he got the ring 2 weeks ahead of time and just couldn't wait to give it to me - no way he would last 9 months!

Most people never get past their first wind to know they have a second.

With my first we did his room bright yellow with stars paintedon the wall, to match his bedding. I loved stars and moons at that point. With my second I did his walls like a twilight blueish purple and put black and white art on his walls. I plan to change it soon to a pond theme with reeds and pussy willows and frogs, he loves frogs lol If we were to have a girl, Chace would get moved to Connors room and I'd chnage the decor to like tinkerbell or something LOL

Amen to that Mara. When/if we get a room we can paint I'm thinking yellows and greens and purples. I know dh will want to surround a baby girl with pink so I'll need to keep him check. Reminding him that the ultrasound could be wrong will help that.

You wouldn't beleive the amopunt of times that happens. I hear more they thinkt hey are having boys then it comes o ut a girl, that umbilical cord looks an awful lot like you know what sometimes! lol Even though we knew my second was a boy I still went neutral in the room, of course, just in case. Only because clothes can be returned or exchanged, redoing a whole room from bright pink to blue is harder LOL

At first I didn't want to know but I think now I would want a heads up. Partly because Dh and I would need some time to figure out names, partly so that we can mentally prepare ourselves for the different "talks" we'll need to have as the child grows up.
Then again, my friends mother was told he was a "healthy baby girl" throughout the pregnancy. Imagine her surprise when he came out male...

We chose not to find out with our son. It was such a wonderful surprise when they held him up and said "it's a boy!" For baby #2 (assuming there is one) we will find out though. I have saved all of my son's stuff (the newborn stuff is neutral at least) but I will want to go ahead and get rid of boy stuff before the girl comes if it is one---before I am totally overwhelemd by having a 3 year old AND a newborn! :)

I really appreciate you sharing your story. Gotta love those comatose-induced discussions. Many a time my hubs and I would ask each other a question in the morning pertaining to a conversation that "supposedly" happened the night before. And all we can do is look at the other in bewilderment because the other has no clue what we are talking about. Then we both bust out laughing. There should be a rule, no o'dark thirty conversations. lol emoticon

I am a person that has to know everything so I will have to know the sex as soon as I can. It would drive me absolutely crazy not knowing. With my luck the baby will never be in the right position. I am not pregnant yet but will be trying later this year.

I am also not a girlie girl and do not like the color pink. So if I have a girl she will be wearing gender neutral colors and if I have a boy he will be wear (royal) blue. But at least knowing would help me pick those colors for the registry.

I am entirely too impatient to wait. I am still TTC and want to know now. hehe. With all the boys in DHs family I would be so surprised if we had a girl. I'm not sure I would even believe it until I saw her. When I had my son I was so nervous about having a boy. But now that we are trying for #2 I secretly hope for another boy.

Littles ~ I used to hate pink, too. I grew up with boy cousins, and played "war" a lot... wear combat boots, you know the type, haha... But, I have 2 girls, who I swore I'd never take to dance classes.. but, here I am, with two super girly-girls who love pink, haha. I admit, after I had them, pink grew on me.

I will probably want to know. I'm considering finding out, but not telling anyone because I hate pink and I know that if/when I have a girl, everyone is going to go out and buy tons of pink stuff. We'll see what happens though. I have to get pregnant first.

I don't want to know, so when I get pregnant, I will be decorating in neutral colors.

When I get pregnant, I want to wait to find out the gender. I like the greens & yellows of the gender-neutral baby items, so it would work for me. And it would be a super surprise!!

WE have this conversation all the time! I used to say I wouldnt want to find out but now I say that if it is a girl I want pink stuff (stroller, car seat, etc) and same for boy with blues. Our current solution is...

My husband will find out and I will register for gender neutral things... then he will secretly return it all and get the stuff I want for boy/girl and secretly buy boy/girl clothes.

I laugh to think about how ridiculous this is bc my husband will definitely go crazy trying to find the right pack and play and all that stuff. I originally said that I would register for boy and girl stuff and then he could delete the wrong gender but then said well duh when I have my shower I will know what I am having lol

I didn't know for either of my successful pregnancies. For my 1st one, I already "knew" she'd be a girl, because I had dreams about her from the time I was 16, so I didn't feel the need to ask, haha.
For #2, I had had a m/c between the girls, and I honestly did not care one bit. I just wanted her to be healthy. I "felt" like she was a boy, so much so, that when she was born (at home, hubby caught her), we held for for a long time, and kept calling her "little guy", haha.
Finally, hubs asked, "Should we look to see what it is?" I was so in love, she was so perfect, it just hadn't occurred to me to look! emoticon When I did look, my husband said, so sweetly, I will never forget it, "Aw, Hannah has a sister." We both cried with joy, and decided that if we are ever blessed with having another, we will just take what is given to us.
I feel like it is sort of peeking for Christmas presents... It was so exhilarating after her birth to see that she was a she.
This last pregnancy, my MIL was pushing really hard for me to find out. I almost relented, but when we went in for the scan at 12 weeks, I found out I was miscarrying... SO, I just know that if I ever do get prego again, I'll tell her to wait, just like the rest of us. They make really adorable unisex clothing...

OMG, MARA! Keep us updated! emoticon

We tried to find out with our first baby and his positin made it impossible to tell. That delivery ended in c-section so when they held the baby up and said, it's a boy! I instantly forgot I was in a cold sterile OR. I think had I known it was a boy, it wouldn't have really meant as much, especially with all I'd been through. My second baby, we tried to find out and it was too small to tell at 20 weeks. Then we tried again at 25 weeks, and the position was wrong again! At 33 weeks I started to leak some fluid so we had another u/s done and I said can you tell me what it is? And she goes ohhh yeah....lol So I had to wait a WEEK til the tech read it and then called my office and said it was male!! That was so thrilling to me, it actually felt weird. He ended in a lengthy but very pleasing delivery, and I was glad I was able to prepare my son for h is new brother. I know with our third, we will find out. I have to. I have nothing left, no crib, no clothes, no car seat. Nada. We donated it all because we werent' going to try for another 3 years. I have an u/s next week to see if I'm pregnant!! OOPS!

I had one of those strange moments early in my marriage on this same issue. We had just miscarried a baby and had found out that DH's sister was pregnant with a boy when I woke up one night, got my husband up and asked him if he would want to know the gender of the baby. He said "yes" and I got so mad. I'm not sure why but I had a HUGE fight with him....which he didn't remember one word of the next morning becuase he'd been half asleep the whole time. emoticon

I'm not sure why I was so upset and I am not sure what we would do when we ever end up pregnant again, I just thought I'd share my silly story that fits with this.

I absolutely have to know. It would drive me crazy not to!

A friend just had a baby and she waited to find out until the end and it was the right choice for her. But I would be wondering every minute of every day! I'm just too darn curious!

I'm sure we'll find out. I don't think well need to buy ANYTHING since I'll be the last one in my group of family and friends to have one but I would rather know so I can pack away anything I won't need for this one and not have too much junk laying around.

I was just wondering whether people plan to find out the sex of their baby before delivery? Why or why not?

I'm not preggers yet, but I think when I am, DH and I will wait and be surprised. I think a baby is a wonderful gift regardless of whether it's a boy or girl and I figure that this way when #2 and #3 come along I'll have gender neutral baby stuff already... No real logic there, but that's where I am.
