I was induced at 38wks and I'm 34. My son's lungs weren't ready...yes, at 38wks. The only risk factor for it was gestational diabetes or they said they would have given me steroids for his lungs. 4wks in the nicu and he came home on oxygen for almost another month after that.

Ohh Dani that is awesome!!! (well not the induction part but that he should be here soon!).

Good luck and definitely stand your ground about the induction if you don't want it, unless of course there are other medical reasons. But really they should just keep checking you daily to ensure the baby is healthy. A due date is an estimate, if drives me nuts when I hear of doctors wanting to induce because they are close to the due date... Its just an estimate baby will come on its own time!!

Anyway enough ranting!! Good luck and hope all goes well! Can't wait to hear all about it!

I agree with waiting until your due date. I'm not a doctor but as long as baby isn't in distress I'd want him to have as much time to develop as possible. Exercise is an excellent, natural way to induce labour, so keep on movin'. I hope you post pictures of your lil' cutie when he does come. emoticon

we're having another boy! So excited to meet him! They are pushing to induce early due to 'my advanced maternal age' (I'm 36) but that doesn't seem like a good medical reason to me... I agreed on a date the day after due date as a compromise. I hope he comes before then!

Wow, I'm 8 weeks now. I don't have many symptoms, so sometimes I even forget that I'm finally pregnant...

I had a little scare two weeks ago, when I lost a some blood. Fortunately it stopped right away, and my dr. let me go in for an ultrasound. But it was still early and there was not much to see. No heartbeat yet. So I was stressed for a whole week (even though nothing major happened during that week), until last Friday when I had another ultrasound. With heartbeat this time. I have never felt more relieved than at that moment!!

Just checking in. 36wks now. Impatient and freaking out all at the same time. So much we still need to do. Dr. is talking induction in the next few weeks. Kinda nervous.

I'm now officially one day overdue... ugh! Ready to meet this baby already but reluctant to get induced (my DD was induced and it was a pretty horrible 45 hour experience!)

So close! I'm 33wks and battling with gestational diabetes. Doctors are saying they "won't let me go past 37-39wks." We'll see...but it feels like I have a horrible ticking deadline for trying to get work projects done before I go on leave.

You didn't find out the gender? That's amazing and so hard. I think the surprise would be neat, but I think the curiosity would kill me.

Hey everyone! I am so sorry I haven't really been around. It's been a busy and exciting point in my life and I just haven't really been on Spark at all.

I am 38 weeks along today, so we will be meeting our new little one (boy or girl) sometime in the next three weeks!

Agreed. From Thanksgiving to New Years it all sort of seems to blur together for me. I'm 23 1/2 wks along and I'm just recently feeling definitely more round. It's been ~10yrs since I had my son, so I'm feeling a little rusty about...well, everything. We've been using an app to keep up with baby's size etc, but largely because my son is interested lol. That, and I am a little stressed this time around as I miscarried at 14wks ~8yrs ago. It seems like as soon as I hit 20wks though, things are seriously flying now and I know he'll be here before I know it...and I'm afraid, before we're ready!

Everything is so busy this time of year!

I am 27 1/2 weeks pregnant and it seems like this pregnancy is flying by. Definitely much different than my first pregnancy where I was constantly thinking about how far along I am, how big that baby is this week, etc. Now I have a two year old to keep up with and a little knowledge not to stress every detail of the pregnancy.

The only complication I have had so far is being slightly anemic at my last appointment. Definitely starting to feel big and uncomfortable, though! Hope everyone else is doing well!

I think I had a chemical pregnancy. I had gotten a few early positives and then I got a negative and now I seem to have my period with early bad cramps. It feels like when I miscarried the 1st time. guess we will be trying again in nov.

Yay!! How exciting!!! Yes it can be a faint line, in fact with two of my pregnancies I didn't see a line at all until 15+ days... the line will get darker as your pregnancy progresses 💕💕💕

So I took a pregnancy test this morning 13 dpo and I think I saw a faint line!! Is it normal for it the line to still be faint at 13 dpo? I can't remember how dark the line was with my son. I also want to surprise my husband somehow instead of just telling him! Anyone have any good ideas?

So good to hear all is well with you both! Morning sickness is the worst - I hope it is gone for good!!! And CRINS! You got this! Get out there with baby and walk whenever you can... I'm losing slowly just from walking - lord knows my food choices have been terrible!!! I need to do better as well!!! Hubby and I have talked about trying again - we're ready but I guess my body isn't - breastfeeding and no period yet! I wish there was a trick to getting things rolling again - I'm not getting any younger! But my little man will be one in a couple weeks and I can't believe how fast it went!!! There will definitely be tears... ❤️❤️❤️

Hey! So awesome to hear that you are well! I was soooo sick from 5-16 weeks it was brutal... I had a boy... maybe you'll have a boy lol! Are you going to find out what you are having? I loved feeling babes move around! That was definitely, by far, the best part of pregnancy. I could totally give everything else up lol!

Hey!
I'm doing well. I'm at 18 weeks and I *think* finally getting over all the first trimester sickness. I was never so sick with my DD, so it was a surprise to be pretty sick from about week 5-15! People who don't already know I'm pregnant are starting to notice, as well. It's nice to feel like I look pregnant instead of fat, lol. I've been feeling the baby move here and there as well, which is super exciting. Definitely one of my favorite parts of pregnancy.

How is everyone else doing? Hope all of your LOs are doing well. My baby will be TWO next month!!

Hey ladies! Hope you are all doing well!

Ben's almost 8 month now! Seriously where does the time go!? Not that we are going to start trying again yet (although if it were up to my husband we would be), but I'd like to lose about 40 lbs before trying again next fall. I am trying to be more active and am going to really start keeping a better eye on my caloric intake.

How is everyone else doing?

I'm right there with you in your feelings, Kari. Although I am only 13 weeks along, we started trying when my daughter was 9 months old but it took a year to actually get pregnant. Now I'm kind of glad that we've had that much more time with our girl. It's very daunting thinking of doing the newborn phase again and this time we'll have a 2 1/2 year old as well! She has started potty training as well so we are really hoping we will only have one in diaper come March!

Kari you will do great! That endless feed diaper sleep chain phase will be over before you know it!!!

CRINS I hear ya - the weight loss is HARD!!! With breastfeeding I am hungry all the time or the fatigue makes me want to eat all the time or... I'm just addicted to food I donno!!!

As of right now I have no plans to go back to teaching full time... BUT I do get bored and feel unfulfilled without something else. I've been tutoring 2-3 times a week and teach a Saturday class for 8 week sessions three times a year. It's not much but it helps a little financially and makes me feel like I still have a little ME left. I'd like to work even more than that because the days get long trying to entertain this little man! Don't know how long I can keep up! Sigh!

Wow 35 Weeks Kari! Conrgrats! Good luck! I was just visiting my sister and she had her second while I was over there... with my son being 6 months I feel like she was doing better then I with her newborn lol! Her first daughter never slept and this one sleeps like a champ already!

It will only be for a short while and you'll be back in the swing of things! I honestly can't imagine starting to try again any time soon... I think I am going to wait until next Fall and then see where we are. Good luck these coming weeks!

I'm now 35 weeks pregnant and I dread that zombie stage again, where life is a string of feeding the baby, changing the baby, and then trying to sleep for 45 min before starting over again. However, I know it gets better :)

I had wanted to start trying to get pregnant when DS was 9 months, but apparently he was a very good breast feeder and held off the return of AF for 2 years! It's for the best. We've had a wonderful time with him by himself and he's starting to be much more independent recently, starting to show interest in potty training in just the last couple of weeks and playing more independently.

Hey Dani! Thank goodness I am not the only one who feels this way. This week has been particularly rough. I am in Germany visiting my sister who just had her second daughter and Benjamin just turned 6 months but has been going through a developmental leap I think and not sleeping well... crying and fussing every hour plus the other day he had am allergic reaction and we had to take him to the hospital and now he finally slept well last night but now I have a cold just in time to fly home tomorrow :s

Ahhh the joys of babies! However, where has the time gone!? I can't believe Ben is 6 months and Dani your Ben must be what 10 months now!? It has just flown by!

Funny enough my husband would also start trying for another if it was up to him. I am not sure though if I want another one yet. And I don't have my period back yet and I definitely am no where near ready even to think about another one. Maybe in a few years.

I definitely feel you on the sleepless nights and only feeling like your former self. We try to keep doing some activities we used to do like play softball and Frisbee. I have found that helps but it is a little ore difficult now that he's older and won't sleep just anywhere.

The other thing I'd like to do before we have another is lose about 60 lbs.... but I've had zero motivation so far and have found it difficult to lose while breastfeeding (not that I've tried very hard yet ) but I am so hungry and then being tired doesn't help. Once I get back this week from Germany though I think I am going to start giving it more effort.

Dani are you working? Or did you go back to work? In Canada we have a year and I am trying to decide if I should go back. In one way I think it'll be too much but on the other hand I think I might get bored taking care of him all the time. I do have a home based travel agency business and that has been going well so I don't have to go back to my full time job but I am afraid it won't give me enough time on my own. Although I think maybe at 18 months I'll put him in part time daycare / preschool and then that might work out well for us. Ahhh so many decisions!

Anyway hope everyone is doing well!

Hi All! Yes, where does the time go?!?! This momming stuff is HARD! I am loving every inch of my little man but I never anticipated this to be so mentally challenging. The lack of sleep, the way I feel as if my former self has been totally deleted, and while every day is challenging it lacks the stimulation and feedback that I had grown accustomed! Life is just SO DIFFERENT!!! MY little guy is crawling, walking around objects, and has four teeth! My pride at him clapping his hands and learning how to eat solid foods is overwhelming! Im so in love!!! My husband wants to start trying for #2 but I haven't gotten my period yet so the chances are slim. Thats about all thats going on in my land. Hows everyone else?!?!

I've had similar problems with weight and breastfeeding and had to keep reducing my calorie intake to compensate. Even so, I started this 2nd pregnancy still up 10-15 lbs from before my DS. So now I'm 'overweight' at 150 and only supposed to gain 15-25 lbs this pregnancy. So far I'm doing pretty well, but I think I'm going to end up slightly above that...which is still better than the 38 lbs I gained with DS. BF definitely made me ravenously hungry though.

Well, summer has officially started for me and I will be home with my DD for the next two months. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to entertain an 18 month old (and myself) for 10-11 hours a day! I know I'm super lucky to have the time with her, but it's a whole new challenge.

On another note, I just officially weaned DD. I didn't gain too much weight during my pregnancy so I went back to my pre-pregnancy weight really quickly. Then with nursing I was SO hungry all the time! I started eating a lot more than I used to (and not necessarily healthy) and the scale basically stayed the same. Unfortunately, my daughter started nursing a lot less over the last couple months and I did not cut back on the eating. The scale has shot up and I saw the highest non-pregnancy weight I've ever seen for myself! Ugh! Time to get my butt in gear and get this under control.

Hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying their LOs. I miss chatting with everyone on here.

Awww wow so glad to hear that you are both doing so well! CRINS the sleep will get even better than that (with small regressions here and there)! My little guy is amazing! Two teeth already and he's really starting to move around on his belly. Like you both said seeing him smile, hearing him laugh, and having those little arms around my neck ate the most amazing things ever!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Enjoy it!! I miss when my son was that age! My LO is getting his 3rd tooth (1st one on the top). Wakes a couple times at night due to the pain. We have also hit some fun milestones like getting ready to crawl. He loves to stand and walk with help. He talks all the time! Love to hear him say Mama!! He gave me kisses for the first time tonight!

We are also in the process of buying our first house. So we have been busy with that and starting to pack!

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their little one(s).

Hello ladies!!!

Long time no message! I hope everyone is doing well! Benjamin is 2 months old today! Omg I cannot believe where the time has gone!! It has just flown by! And has it ever gotten significantly better! He sleeps now most of the night (with waking to night feed) but has gone down to about 2-3 times a night. And sleeps from around 10:30-11pm until about 8:30am (like I said waking to eat) but its really great as he sleeps in a pack and play next to me and I can hear him stir so I pull him onto the bed, feed him laying down (he barely wakes) and then I put him back in his bed.

My husband gives him a bottle before he puts him to bed and now he sleeps most nights until 3 am when I have to feed him again. But I usually go to bed around 9-10pm so this gives me a nice chunk of sleep!

He has also started smiling and almost laughing which are the most amazing things ever! It is soo much more fun now that he can smile and react (somewhat) to things! I am so excited to see him grow and reach more milestones as the days pass!

How is everyone else doing!?

Awww I remember all of those things! Yes it was so hard to fill the time when there is nothing that they can really do yet! It sounds like you are doing everything right!!! Keep on singing and reading! We also did some little exercises to work on that head control. He loves (still) when we have him grip both of our thumbs while he's laying down then we sing 'Benji Benji UP!' And pull him to a sitting position then we do 'and DOWN' and slowly lower him back. He just thinks it's hilarious and it has helped his head control and now that he can hold on and pull a little it's helping his arm strength 😍

I donno! It can get a little boring even now and mine is almost 5 months!!! He can sort of enjoy some toys now but if he can't figure out how to get it into his mouth then he gets really frustrated 😝 They are too funny!!!

Hey! Things are pretty good. Benjamin is already 4 weeks old today which is crazy! I can't believe how quickly the time has flown by already. Ben still won't sleep in his own bed so he is sharing with me for now, but it seems to be working out ok. He'll sleep for about 2-3 hours at a time, feed and then go down again and we cycle through that 3 or 4 times a night.

I can't wait until he'll be a little more interactive... its tough now because he is awake more, during the day, but gets bored pretty easily, so its hard to entertain him. It will be more fun when he actually thinks things we are do are interesting and give us some feed back other then his "what are you doing" look!

What did you guys do to entertain your babies at the one month mark? We sing songs, read books, he has a few toys he looks at and we have a play mat for tummy time and such.

Thanks for checking in! Things are definitely more manageable and Benji is growing fast! I do still have hormonal breakdowns every now and then where I feel a ton of anxiety over all that needs to be done in the house and the little time I have to do anything with the LO on my hip all the time!!!

But my hubby and I were just reminiscing last night about how difficult those first couple months were and how much better and more rewarding the little guy is now ❤️❤️❤️

CRINS and Dani - How are you and your little guys doing? I hope things are going well and starting to feel a little less overwhelming. Hopefully you're both starting to get some more sleep as well!

I'm a big believer in doing what works for you. We actually were able to get my son to sleep in his basinet for the first 6 weeks or so, by swaddling (I also love halo sleep sacks) and keeping a hand on him for a minute after setting him in it with gentle pressure and then slowly removing it. We transitioned him to his crib the same way. However...I went back to work at 3 months and at 4 months, he stopped sleeping in his crib because I was a complete zombie. His 4 month sleep regression had him nursing every 2 hours again and I couldn't handle going to his room to feed him for 30-45 min every 2 hours. So we started bed sharing and my life got much better. Most of the time he has started in his room and came to our room when he work up around midnight. He's 2 yrs 4 months now and currently sleeping in my bed, still nursing to sleep, but I've managed to night wean him recently, so it's actually pretty good. We'll soon be trying to transition him back to his own bed, before the baby comes for sure.

We slept with Emmaline in our arms a lot the first couple weeks. After that, swaddling and a pacifier worked wonders for us. We really liked the Halo sleepsack swaddlers because they were the only ones she wouldn't escape from. She slept swaddled like that from 4 weeks or so to 6 months!

I've always been told the ABCs... alone, on their back, in a a crib. Every kid is different, though, and I can't really blame a little baby for wanting the security of sleeping all snuggled with their mom or dad. For us, swaddling helped mimic that sense of security.

He is beautiful!!! CRINS so happy for you!!! Great idea looking into groups etc! The hospital where I delivered has a group that I go to and I love it! I have also found lots of Facebook moms groups that are local. Excellent way to meet up!

Now - on to sleeping! My Benji was the same exact way! And for the first few weeks Jon and I took turns holding him while the other one slept. The second we put him down - screamed like crazy!!! We finally got him to sleep on his own on a Fisher Price Rock and Play which I later found out is not recommended ... But it was our savior for a month or so there. I then transitioned him into our bed so he could get used to sleeping flat before we moved to the crib. We have a king bed and plenty of room for him to be free of pillows blankets etc in between us so I felt okay with that until he started wiggling like he was going to roll over. Then I wanted him in his crib.

ANYWAYS... we had luck transitioning between things by starting with his naps. Not that any of the transitions were easy, but in time he took to everything! Will he nap in the bassinet? Any chance the pack and play can go to your bedroom? Wherever you want him to be at night I would try having him nap there repeatedly in the hopes that one day you can lay him there at night and he'll stay! I still can't believe that my Benji is in his crib all night every night - it took a lot of tears and nights of 'trying' it before it happened. BUT it WILL get better and everyday will get easier slowly!!!

You are doing great and are such a wonderful mama!!! Sending hugs! We're here when you need us!

Dani

Hi ladies!

I hope you are all well! Sorry its taken me a bit to get back on here. But so far everything has been going pretty well. It's hard to believe that Benjamin is already going to be 2 weeks old tomorrow! I seriously cannot believe how quickly time is flying already!

Today is the first day that Ben and I are on our own. My husband has been back to work this week, but my parents were up helping me out but they left last night. So far things seem to be good. He had a bit of a fit last night, but I think he was gaseous and couldn't get it out. Its so heartbreaking when they are in pain and you can't do much to help them out. I just tried to comfort him as much as I could and this morning he seems to be a lot better.

We still aren't having any luck getting him to sleep on his own in his crib or bassinet at night time. During the day I can get him to sleep in his pack and play for a little while, but at night he just cries if I try to put him down. So he pretty much sleeps in my arms at night because that is the only way we get any sleep. I keep trying to put him in his bassinet to help him get used to it, but I am worried he never will sleep without me. I know it's still early but if anyone has any advice or suggestions on how you got your little one to sleep at night on their own I'd love to hear it. He also seems to prefer sleeping on his side or back... during the day I put him down in his pack and play on his tummy and he will sleep for an hour or two, but I am not as comfortable doing that at night when I might not get to check on him if I fall asleep.

Other then that, I am trying to find some groups to join or go to as I tend to go a little stir crazy. There is a group at our local grocery store that meets Wednesdays so I am going to go there next week and see what its all about. And I am planning on joining a local program at a fitness centre called Stroller Babies. Basically its a workout where you bring your baby but that doesn't start until next month. I've also looked into a kindermusik class. I don't know a whole lot of other moms so I'd like to meet some. I love my husband but we don't have too much to talk about when he just goes to work and I stay home with the baby all day. But I know it will get better as Ben gets older and we are able to do more!

Anyhow I hope everyone else is doing well! Oh and here is one of his photos from his newborn photo shoot!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Please do everything in your power to take care of yourself! I know it's so tough, but it is no small thing that your body has been through and it won't help anyone to get yourself too run down.

This is one of the happiest times in your whole life, but it's okay if you're not always happy. It's really hard, too!! Your hormones will be crazy after birth so don't feel bad if you are sometimes overwhelmed or even sad. Let other people take care of you!

I'm so happy for you. Being a mom is the best! Things will definitely get easier. Just hang in there, the first few weeks can be very rough! We've all been there and will be happy to provide any support or advice you need!

Hello ladies!! Sorry it took me a while to post but Benjamin Robert finally arrived Feb 26 (edd Feb 24) at 5:28 pm. He is a big boy 9 lbs 9 Oz and 22.5 inched long! I delivered him without any pain medications and pretty much everything went according to my birth plan. I am pretty shocked to be honest but so happy he's finally here. It's been tough getting adjusted to him though and we are so tired but I guess that is just the name of the game at this point. But we love him to pieces already!
