Thanks Jolkey for creating the thread.

Let's reign!

I am feeling good and strong. Eating mostly natural, whole foods. I was into a bad habit of drinking wine several evenings during the week. And with wine goes snacks and I was hanging out in the high end of my yoyo for way too long. My jeans were unwearable.

I think adjustment to retirement s tricky business, but I am feeling fresh and like this is my lifestyle and I'm grateful and loving it.

So Back in the beginning of december I started at a workout place that I had always wanted to go to in the city and after an initial overwhelm, I am loving it. I am feeling strong and capable of really working out again.

So I am down some pounds and up in energy.

More later. Got to run.

Hope we can keep this thread alive. Thanks for all you did in 2014 to keep it going Jolkey.

While tracking my food intake this week, I became aware that I have slipped back into to some nighttime eating habits.

I've been a bad influence on my cat.

One night this week, she was in the kitchen begging for another can of Fancy Feast at about 9pm. I told her the kitchen was closed, and she laid there for about an hour, staring at her dish. Smiling at her predicament made it easier for me to reach for hot herb tea instead of more calories.

In order to rule my world so that it doesn't rule me, I have chosen to work on being more consistent with AWARENESS in 2015.

Here's this week's report:

MEASUREABLE AWARENESS TARGETS:
Physical Activity--Goal 10,000 daily steps--Monitor with Fitbit--5500 daily avg
Calorie Consumption--Daily maximum 2015 calories--Track on MyFitnessPal app--1350 daily avg
Weight--Weigh daily, routinely, to guide choices--Monitor trends with Withings wireless scale--197.5, loss 5.1 lbs.
Progress--Weekly report to Reign in 2015, to chip away at excess weight--posted 1/7/2015

Extra Credit--To increase AWARENESS that I can stop going along to get along in my "sentimental, southern eat eat eat obsessed" environment. I will reward myself with a pat on the back for any baby steps toward being more in control of my world.

PAT ON THE PACK;
This week I bought my husband a Nutribullet to reinforce his interest in his own health. I think it will appeal to him, because he already makes fruit and cucumber infused water for his refrigerator container. If he likes the Bullet, he will want to eat out at least a tiny bit less. Today, I walked him through making a smoothie. He snarled at the spinach and asked if he could put bacon in the blender, as he added a variety of favorite fruits and a spoonful of the energy boost powder. He liked the attention as I read to him the health benefits of each thing he added. It looked nasty. First sip, he said, "Hmm, not bad". He poured me a small serving, and I agreed. Then, after finishing the rest, he asked how long it would last in the refrigerator and started talking about how he could make a big one to keep chilled for snacks. I think I just have to keep encouraging his interest. Score!!!

EDIT TO ADD:
A couple of hours after I posted my above report, I looked on Facebook and found my rotten husband had added the following Check-In information at Courtney's Country Cooking Restaurant. Here's what he said.
"Having fried chicken, carrots, Lima beans and corn at Courtney's to offset
healthy smoothie Barb and I fixed this morning with the new NutriBullet she bought me
as part of care giving. "

I have my work cut out for me with him.

Thanks, JOL, for creating our spot to check in and work on our long-term goals during 2015.I always think about YINZ (you-all) on New Year's Eve.

I'm not doing very well at ruling my world. My world in TN provides opportunities for me to just give up and eat myself to death. My scale gave me the gift of feedback today, 202.6, and I was not happy. Time to do some planning.

Goal number one: pick up the pace on my daily steps, back to my 10,000 daily steps.
Goal number two: track food, maximum of 2015 calories per day, no matter what the occasion.
Goal number three: weigh once daily as part of routine, without judging, just to increase awareness.
Goal number four: Report progress here once weekly.

WHY? I find dancing harder to do at this weight. I'm afraid for my heart if I don't lose some lbs. My clothes are tight. I want to look good in my dance recital costume in May and at granddaughter's wedding in August.

EDIT to add: For extra credit, I will work on changing the excessive emphasis on food in my immediate environment. Will report on what works.
