Nice! I guess those fries fit in your calorie range! :)

French fries. I'd had my share. I took a cue from my son, who said, "Here, Mommy, I don't want anymore!" and I threw the rest of the fries away.

It was painful but a relief at the same time. I pictured Martha Beck standing there coaxing me to do it.

Maya- instead of trying to get a handle on everything at once, try doing one meal (breakfast is easy) at a time and work on that for a few weeks, then add lunch and work on that. Lastly add your main meal since that one will be a more difficult habit to break.

I'm good with 1500-1600 calories a day so that 400 sounds very reasonable. I too found that 1200, or even 1400, had me binging too easily.

Hmm. The 400 plan? Sounds interesting. I'm more like at 600 to 800+ per meal right now, and I know I need to get a handle on that. So far, the clothes are still fitting well, but that won't last too long if I keep up the almost 3k-a-day eating and the not-quite-5k-a-day walking. :)

Yesterday was again an almost-3k-calories day. Grr.

With the best of intentions, I still let myself get drawn into social eating. Ordered fries (but only had 10 of them, yay) and stole a couple of small onion rings from my friend's plate. BUT I didn't eat the rest of the fries! And "only" a single bacon-cheddar burger at Johnny Rockets, rather than the double that's the default. [Looked up the calories when I came home. Er - BAD idea. :D ]

So, I'm GLAD I had my throw-out win early in the day. Today is gonna be a better one - I'm not necessarily gonna throw anything in the garbage, it's more going to be a day of listening to my WildChild and letting her tell me what I truly want to eat, then following through on that.

Wish me luck!

Kris - the big breakfasts DO usually work very well for me. It's just that sometimes I then forget to listen to my tummy telling me I don't *need* a big lunch, a huge snack, and a wildly extravagant dinner as well! :)

Cheers,
Maya

Prevention is putting out a new book in Jan that sounds interesting. It's called something like "The 400 plan" or something like that. Basically, you eat 4 meals a day of 400 calories each so you're getting 1600 cals a day. It's flexible so that if you're going out to dinner with the boss, you can move your calorie needs around so long as you stay within 1600, which I think is a very reasonable amount. 1200 calories has me wanting to eat my own arm.

Maya - that actually sounds pretty healthy! I've been experimenting with really big breakfasts - 600+ calories - to see if that really does help me eat less throughout the day and it seems to be working!

I haven't thrown anything away but I have been giving my Christmas candy away to everyone else :)

I didn't eat the chocolate truffles or the dark chocolate m&m's that I wanted last night. I wasn't hungry, just wanted it and I'd already had dessert earlier in the day.

Swifty, OF COURSE it counts!

We're here to celebrate. Not to rationalize away why we *shouldn't* celebrate!

I don't care if you threw it away because you found it growing little green horns - YOU THREW IT AWAY! ;)

This ties back in with both Judith Beck's The Beck Diet Solution and Martha Beck's Four Day Win and The Joy Diet. Learning to discard food that's perfectly good is a GREAT goal - but we can work up to it in our own way by throwing away the science experiments first! :)

Cheers,
Maya

Ooh, Tami. Pygmy goats? Cute! And what a natural way to reduce the household garbage - nature's own recyclers, goats!

Congratulations on the shooting star (your son) ... yeah, it's great that he'll be such a TALL young man soon. Commiserations on the shopping involved. :)

I had another mini-celebration this morning. I had three (yes, three) croissants in the plastic-box-thingy (can't think of the word - you know, like a take-out container, with the little bubbles at the edges to keep them closed?) they came in. Usually, I'd eat at least two for breakfast.

This morning, I ate ONE. Yep. Okay, I split it in half and inserted a mighty tasty omelette that had some onions and hot chilies and cremini mushrooms and a bit of the Wensleydale cheese I'm currently experimenting with. So it wasn't a light breakfast by any means. But it left me feeling happy, not overfull, so I figure I did something good there.

Plus, my niece and nephew slept in and were pleasantly surprised to find croissants - their favourite breakfast - waiting for them.

Happy New Year, y'all!

Cheers,
Maya

LOL BigGirl! I actually have about 15 pygmy goats including a new baby yesterday, and 6 laying hens and a rooster. They're my composter/garbage disposal.

Not too much left from the party last night except a BUNCH of raw vegetables so not really anything to throw away. There were 5 or 6 pieces of the puff pastry appetizers but I know my son will snarf those down when he gets up along with 4 or 5 other courses. He's at the eat all day and night stage that comes right before he shoots up another several inches. HE just turned 12 and is already 5'4" and wears a men's size 12 but maybe weighs 110. I have 2 inches on him but not for long. They figure he'll be at least 6'4" and this will be the start of his "real" growth this year. I can't wait for that. The boy is already hard enough to keep in clothes and shoes.

I threw away 2 bags of gummy Christmas candy I had bought at 50% off, minus 2 pieces of it.

Gummy things are one of my favorites, but these didn't taste good - that made it easy. This might not count emoticon Yes it does emoticon !

Nice work, Tami - turning down favourite cookies has to be tough! And you'll do fine at the party - what's this about goats, though? You taking 'em to the party? :)

Me? I actually DID throw something away - that chocolate cake that'd been sitting around since the Ruth's Chris visit last week! I ate a couple of bites, then realised that the reason I'd not finished it at the restaurant was not that I'd been too full - it had been that I had not WANTED to eat any more of this cake! Not because it didn't taste good, but because I wasn't ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT.

Martha strikes again.

As I tasted the cake again today, I realised I still don't ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. So it went in the trash.

Cheers,
Maya

i'm doing pretty well. I even told my aunt not to bring some of my favorite swedish cookies when she came today. We still have one party to go tonight but for the most part, my goats are fat and happy from all the holiday and I'm sore from my new boxing workout.

I'm thinking, in the spirit of celebrating our wins, it may be fun to write about what we DIDN'T indulge in, even though we wanted to.

I know I titled the post "I threw it away", but it could just as well have been "I didn't eat it!"

Come on, tell us, brag a little: what did you NOT eat that you wanted to? Or what did you start to eat because you wanted to, then STOP eating because *cue drum roll* you'd had enough?

Share. Brag. Celebrate!
