I had to climb the stairs yesterday due to our elevator being down. They are coming to clean fans and change the filter in my apartment this today. I was just going to take some medication, a last resort for me, and go to bed. Instead of following that path I am trying to walk out my pain. I have taken out the trash and walked around the building outside. I will save the medication for later if the pain does not subside.

I am fighting appetite like crazy since starting back on Cymbalta. Putting fruit on the top shelf of the fridge, keeping the more healthy choices front and center, and keeping the food tracker is vital to help me keep that in check. So also is keeping my hands busy with something like crochet. So I am doing a lot of that!

That is great! Spreading steps through the day is like eating 6 meals a day, it is best for increasing the metabolism and keeping it stable through the day. 10 minutes of "cardio" 3 times a day is as good as 30 minutes all at once. You are doing great! Here a little, there a little. emoticon

I remember that one now. emoticon I will begin practicing it again. emoticon
I have been able to increase my steps this week slowly. I stop what ever I am doing if my back begins to hurt and go to the recliner and relax my back muscles. I have found a shorter walk route than the one I have been using for the eight years I have lived here. My topical pain medication that my pain specialist had made up for me is helping also. I am learning!

The main core exercise my PT gave me and told me to do no others for a week is simply to tense my core abs like a boxer getting ready for a blow to the belly. He said "Pucker the belly button tight and hold". Increase the hold every few days, doing several reps of it for each set, and do it several times a day. He said the muscles around the belly button and those we use to ward off a blow are the most important support muscles for the back. And those muscles should automatically engage with every move we make. This exercise wakes those muscles up and puts them back to working as they should.

As I type this up for you, I realize I have gotten a little lax with this one, so I will be doing this one anew for a time! We can do it!

I don't do well with medications and my small dose for my OA aggravates my throat. The core exercises are hard with my back issues also. I did 5000 steps yesterday without severe pain so maybe I am making slow progress. I am maintaining my 25 chair jumping jacks with the alteration of not bringing my arms up as high.
I will find one exercise I can add and see how it goes for a few days.

That's great, Nola. Keep figuring out the limits, work within them, but test and stretch those limits as you are able. I have worked up to being able to 8500 steps most days, with two rest days of 5000. I have to have the rest days. And one thing that helped is to do core exercises to strengthen the back support muscles. That has allowed me to build up on my steps.

My challenge to my journey right now is this med Doc put me on, which is wreaking havoc on my energy level and my appetite. I will have to decide which is worse, the fibro symptoms that can be controlled with wisdom, or the med side effects that I have yet to figure out what to do with. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yes, I only did one load of laundry today although I would like to do more. I limit my exercise to 10 minutes. I know that 5000steps a day is a trigger for a lot of pain in my feet and back.

WTG! I had a laid back day today for the most part, rested until my hair appointment at 2. Then dinner with my sweetie and church. It was a good day. Taking it a little at a time and adjusting schedules like you did is a great help to our ability to get things done without overdoing. One thing I do that helps is when I sit to rest, set a timer for 30 minutes to one hour. When it goes off, I get up to do a little more of something. I find I get a lot done that way without over doing.

That is my problem. I do too much on my good days. Today I took it easier but still up and around. Put off my laundry until tomorrow because I needed to go to the store today.

Yes, finding that delicate balance is vital. I easily and rapidly increased to 7500 steps / day, then had to slow my rate of increase and number of steps increased to half. I am still increasing, just way slow.

Today I am getting ready for Bible study that will be in my home tomorrow night. But I managed to get my exercise in. Challenge: to not push too hard on days when I am feeling good. Every time I do that, I wind up with at least a week when I can't function. Balance is the answer.

I am going to have to reduce my step goal as I have learned how many is too many. Now to work on what is just right, emoticon

Hoping to go outdoors and do a little walk today and add a few steps to my fitbit. Too many days of resting for me.

Taking it easy is sometimes necessary.

I was sluggish for the longest today, but made myself get up and start moving and it gradually lifted. Turned into a fairly productive day.

Trying to identify if my pain was from Fibro or other issues. I took it very easy for a couple of days and am feeling much better now.
