Every area has an agricultural adviser working for the state government. You could check there or at a gardening store. It isn't a big thing, but can't remember exactly what it is.

I like to plant green beans in my garden but every year some type of bug eats them. I end up with beans that have brown spots all over them. Does anyone know what I can do to prevent this?

Try frozen veggies. They are often on sale and can be very tasty.

VRACHEL: My best advice to some one on a diet is this (and I hope I'm not too late): Don't even start until you are ready. I mean READY, really really! Do not set yourself up for failure. How do you know if you are ready? When you KNOW that you will accept no excuses from yourself, when nothing can stop you from trying and trying and trying, make that DOing and DOing and DOing, when you are willing to lose whatever weight you lose however slowly, when you know that you will not be dieting but rather be making a lifestyle change for the REST of your life -- because once it comes OFF you know you will NEVER let it back on. So it doesn't matter how fast or slow you lose because for the rest of your life you will never see that pound again --you are doing it for YOU, not for some class reunion. And if you don't lose it all at once, that is okay, you'll be lighter, and the year after that, you'll be lighter; and the year after THAT, you'll STILL be lighter....

10 years of practice, 3 times a week, under certified leaders. Eventually, they needed the occasional break and/or replacement. I was quick-minded enough to have paid attention to their routines and could "spell" them, and fit enough to be able to talk out loud while exercising. Eventually I filled in for them completely when they couldn't make it. The group liked what I did and was content to have me replace two of the class leaders when they dropped out of the group.

I don't pretend to be certified, but free is free, after all. And it is easy enough to watch exercise routines on TV or DVD and learn something new to introduce to the group to keep it stimulating. Oh, and after college I dated a physical trainer for quite awhile. I learned quite a lot from him about muscle training.

Each person does the diet that they like best within the constaints of healthy eating. Low carb is OK if it is not to the extreme. Too much protien is too hard on the body and the body does need carbs to stay healthy

Where do you get your execise routines?

OOOhhh! I liked the "name purple foods" question because I really try to 'color' my plate with food and purple is a tough one for me. Besides grapes, plums and eggplant, there are purple onions, purple cabbage, blueberries. If you're lucky, you can find purple figs, carrots, potatoes, and purple peppers. And one of those new exotic fruits... can't seem to think of the name...

hmmm...question.... so new here I haven't had time to properly explore... Does anybody low-carb; or is Sparks.com just the wrong place for me?

George Foreman is a great way to cook!

Strength training is best 3x's a week. You should change it a little every 6 weeks. It is even ok to do 2x's if you have some core or flexibility dedicated days along with 3 cardio days. I'm doing strength 3x's now at 3sets-10reps with moderate weight. I will move to 2sets-20reps with a little lighter weight for about 6 weeks soon.

Carrots! They are ok but there are better choices. Celery, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, onion, are great choices. Watch out for carrots, potatoes, corn, and peas (go easy on them). Just eat less or mix the carrots with celery. Fruit, stick with grapefruits, oranges, strawberries, and apples. Maybe a slice of melon once in a while, some just have too much sugar when you are trying to lose weight.

If you want to lose you need to look at every food. Don't forget to keep the protein up. If you can read labels look for additives such as starch, white flower, corn syrup, fructose, salt, sugar.. You can get some organic things that are minus these as well as gluten free and taste just fine. Sugar, starch, and salt really need to be watched.

I really like fried foods, so this is a tough one for me. Daddy and my brother got me a George Foreman for Christmas. While I have not completely given up frying, I do so much less now that I have a new way to cook up the same things. I am discovering that the Foreman is good for veggies, too!

Question: What is your favorite snack when you need a little afternoon energy?

I grill or bake. I broil some meats and will do some "frying" with moist foods so the water will keep the food from burning.

Yes, definitely, an eggplant is a vegetable, but I'm sure you do know though that a tomato is a fruit.

My question is this:

What is your favorite healthy snack?

Eggplant is a relative of the potato and tomato and is a member of the nightshade family, so yes it is a vegetable.

My hubby is prolly my biggest supporter as he knows what it has been like for me. But the spark team is really a very close second as they have been such a help. No one in my family is heavy except for me and I don't take to talking with them like I share here.
My question-where on the internet is a good source for food info besides spark people as far as finding breakdown of food...ie fiber, sodium glycemic index?

It is my dream to someday take three months and drive up the eastern coast of the U.S. and see all the historical sights. I live in California and there are a lot of fun road trips exploring our great state - driving along Hwy 1 is truly beautiful.

Walking especially outside when it is cool in the morning. I also include hiking in this. I will use the treadmill in the winter when it is too cold and snowy to walk outside but I love to walk outside.

Where do you like to take a road trip?

I have purchased an Omron pedometer which you can download the info onto a computer, and this has been a great motivator. My goal is 10,000 steps per day, and for two weeks I have done this without any problem.

My question is: What is your favorite Spark recipe?

If they are really good friends I would just say "no". To others I would take just a small bit and then mash it around the plate or like a cookie break it up. Then they don't realize how much you left.

How do you motivate yourself to exercise?

I think we've gotten a bit off track here, so I'll try to answere Suz'z question, and leave one of my own, and maybe we can get it going again....

I usually try to exercise several times a day, because I just can't say "From 2 to 3 I'll exercise". I'd rather take 10 or 15 min. and go for a walk when I need a break, or jump on my bike and ride to town (downhill, but oh boy, the ride back is cardio and 1/2). I just have better luck sneaking the exercise in doing it that way. Now, if I'd only remember to track it.... LOL

My question is, how do you handle well meaning friends who know you are really trying to lose the weight, and they either keep offering you goodies (and not Sparks goodies), or keep saying "Should you eat that?"

I go with salad usually with dressing on the side. As for fries, if you really want them try baking them at home, the sweet potato ones are great.

Question when do you exercise? morning, night, several times a day?

Action is for today if you want results tomorrow.
My goal is a daily action and I strive for it to be a positive one. Suzanne

Cheryl, in response to your question, I would leave if the team got too big, and I got lost in the crowd, although I doubt that would happen. By the time I reach goal, my focus would be on maintaining and also perhaps setting a new goal ... but as it is I am not going anywhere ...

Question: What is the one thing you illiminated from your life that you do not miss ( no ex's you guys LOL )

I would stay with the team. The weight might be gone, but the reasons I gained in the first place really don't leave. They just get more manageable.

Question: What is your new diet friendly treat?

Char I want to address your question.....hitting that brick wall they call a plateau is very frustrating for each of us, especially ME ask me been there done it more then once on my journey. I started needing to shed 90+lbs and now that I am down 56.2 I can answer this question. YOU DON"T GIVE UP......because.......YOU WANT THIS MORE THEN YOU'VE EVER WANTED ANYTHING YOU'VE TRIED TO DO IN YOUR LIFE!!! So you change something, adding more water, adding more exercise of a DIFFERENT kind, you reseach any and all things that MIGHT help you break the cycle and get that loss moving again and you ASK ASK ASK everyone what has worked for them and find one idea that you can do that might be key to your success. All you need to do is get that set point working for you girl it WILL happen I promise.

My question is.....why would anyone EVER want to move from this TEAM when they reach their goal? Wouldn't you want to stay HERE and inspire so many others to reach your sucess as well?? Cheryl

To Sarge's question: how do you handle eating on a stressed out day? Drink some water, walk away from the kitchen & think before you eat. I'm truly an emotional eater... stress overwhelms me sometimes. This question hit home!

To Suzi's question: What is the one bad thing that you know you will not give up, and how have you found a way to keep it balanced with good?

Chocolate. But now I buy the best I can find & only eat one small piece & that satisfies my cravings.

Question: What is the one fast food that you can't seem to stay away from?

Favorite? How can you choose one? The wide range of Fitness and video workouts, I never get bored. But then I like the Food tracker, I have learned so much about myself and my food choices. But the best is talking to all the different teams.

I'm very limited at the moment as to doing any more physical exercise... but normally (without this knee surgery) I would kick things up a notch by walking further and faster. That always helped me lose again after a plateau.

My Question: Once you get to your goal will you stay with this team?

Well, I'm about 350 cals over my guidelines at the moment, so maybe that counts as "totally blown it?" (I had my wine with dinner, and dark chocolate afterwards -- and enjoyed it!)

1) I keep drinking water for the rest of the evening, to counteract the water retention, especially since there were salty olives in the fish I cooked; and
2) I've plotted my food for tomorrow, so I should be OK going forward -- even though tomorrow is a rest day and I won't be burning too many calories at church or going to the outdoor concert we plan to attend. (but according to SP, I burned over 1000 calories at the gym today, so I was probably HUNGRY!)

We keep reading about changing things up when we hit plateaus -- what do you do?

I would invite Billy Graham and fix a good Southern meal for him (healthy of course!)

My question is this:

What do you dislike the most about being overweight?

emoticon time for a lil fun eh...I borrowed this idea from another team and some of you may recognize it from your other teams, so here's how it works just incase ...

I ask a question, and then someone else answers then following you answer in the same post, ask the next question... then same thing happens ....now just to make it a little more interesting and maybe a tad harder, the question has to be health and weight information....so I'll start it off...

What will you do when you reach your goal weight?
