I think 5 pounds is doable. My starting weight is 182 pounds, so my goal will be 177 pounds.

We've been doing a monthly 5 pound challenge on this team. Seems to motivate group members. We post our goal for the month, and our weekly goal. Check in weekly with how we did and pounds lost or gained. It is listed by the month. January 5 pound challenge (I think under monthly challenges, not sure exactly)

Since I didn't get to weigh in this week again, I am using my weight from 12-22as my final weigh in. I met my 20# goal, increased it to 30# and exceeded that! 32 pounds lost in 4 months!

Starting weight Aug 09: 175
Ending Weight Dec 22: 143
Pounds lost during the Christmas Challenge: 32

Never thought I could lose that much in such a short time! My step-brother's cousin commented about me being so skinny the other day, and I have been mistaken as being my son's sister rather than his mom since we have been at the hospital! I am amazed with the progress I have made. Thanks to everyone here for all of your support!

My original goal was to lose 20 pounds by Christmas, which put me at 155. I have lost 26 pounds already in 3 months!!

After a difficult two weeks spent mostly at the hospital with my boys, who are recovering well, I expected to gain a few pounds. However, I was pleasantly surprised to go home today and find out that I have lost another 6 pounds in these 2 weeks! I am not increasing my goal for next week, and may not get to weigh in then anyway. I will be working on getting my boys healthy, and walking once we are home to maintain my mental health as well as my physical health!

Due to family crisis, I will be unable to continue with the challenges at this time. My two sons, 16 and 14, were in a severe car accident on Tuesday Dec. 8 and are recovering in the hospital. They have some broken bones, and both are expected to make a full recovery. They have a long way to go with physical therapy and it will be hard, but we are blessed to have our two boys with us! I will try to check back when I am able. Keep up all of your hard work!

Forgot to weigh in yesterday. Glad this isn't higher, due to eating white bread on Sunday. One change I have made is limiting white bread, and now it doesn't agree with me! Felt bad monday and today.

DH bought me some more new clothes, since the ones I had were literally falling off me! Small tops, size 8 jeans! emoticon

I think it started as a challenge to lose 15 pounds by Christmas, but that was quite a while ago. I think most of us have set a goal of about 1-2 pounds per week to lose by Christmas, or to maintain healthy eating habits and exercise through the holidays.

I took a while getting started as well, but these message boards have really helped me to stay motivated and work towards my goals. Glad to have you!

I'm joined SP last year and never really took the time to figure it out and post, but I decided something had to change and I needed to log in my meals and work on taking my health more seriously. i so need help logging my food. I have not done it in two weeks : ( I have worked out everyday this week. Plan on going today too. The medicine they gave me for my fibromyalgia is great. hopefully it stays this way.

I feel like I'm finally on track. Dont know what I would do without SP. I was really frustrated about losing and gaining the same 2lbs and blogged about it. A couple of folks commented and told me to pay better attention to what I'm eating and dedicate myself to my goal. They were right. It really was a simple as that.

thanks Jansenmom: You go girl! I need to get on this sight more to motivate me. I did awesome at the gym last night. Was able to run 30 minutes no problem. Ate good today so far. I am feeling much better. and yes I am drinking plenty of water. Little worry about Saturday. going to Ohio State vs Michigan tailgate party. but I am going to hopefully keep control. Going to eat before I go and plan on taking my own food. I still need to get my pictures to motivate me : ) you keep up the good job. I am following your motivation.

PHURTT123, I'm so glad your staying on track. Good for you. I keep saying it's two steps forward and one step back. You can do this!! The weight will come off, keep it up.

This is my 3rd week and I can't believe I'm still motivated to lose this weight, Thanks to this site!

I still have 12 pounds to lose before Christmas. That's 2 pounds a week. I know I can do it, but boy it sure is hard. I've lost 2 inches off my waist, that's exciting!

Regret will haunt you for the rest of your life. Never give yourself something to regret. Loose the weight for yourself and no one else.

Back on track this week with a 2 pound loss. It took some effort, with a birthday party, soccer party, and reunion all this week. Took a salad with me to one, and was careful at the others! And, had to go buy pants 2 sizes smaller than I've been wearing! emoticon

I had a good weekend and I am going to push myself really hard this week. I will wiegh in tomorrow morning. But Yesterday I did weigh myself and I was down a 1/2lb just for the weekend.Yippee. My goal was not to gain : )

i find i have to be "accountable" to someone.
and with the blogs and message board on here, i can keep myself busy in the eves instead of wondering around the house and picking up lil things and nibbling at them and graze feeding, the eves are my worst time as il snack and pick without realising im doing it, as il feel sleepy and tired before its bedtime.
but if i post and write on here im keeping head and hands busy so i cant eat what i dont need to.

i think id like to try and get down to about 69k by christmas...that gives me 5 more monday weigh ins

You sound alot like myself, I have always started out with this big plan to lose all this weight and then just as two weeks creaps up I'm starting to slack off and then as the 3rd week starts I quit. Well, here I am today and this is my 3rd week and I'm still very excited to lose the weight. I think if you continue to use this site you'll find this same motivation for yourself.

Weigh in was this morning and I'm down a couple more pounds 147.4. This is just what I was hoping for so I'm on track with my goal and feeling great about it.

Christmas is a little less than 6 weeks away. I would love to be 135 by then. That would leave me with only 5 more pounds to lose. Yah, I'm excited to do this.

YOU CAN DO IT TO!!!!!

Welp I sort of slacked off a bit. I'm going to jump back in, but right now my goal will have to be 15 lbs by x-mas. So I am going to aim for a 2 lb loss a week. Hopefully it will be more each week.

Okay, so I lied about putting away the scale! I think I'll just stick to once a week, though! I'm doing okay so far this month (after my all-time high that happened to fall on my 31st birthday - blechh); but I thought I'd set myself a timeline for losing 13 lbs. by Christmas. It would be 15, but I'll be going home for the Thanksgiving holiday, and I always come back from my mom's 5 lbs. heavier; so for that week I'm not even going to worry about losing; I'll just be trying not to gain!

MARISKA011 I am glad I motivated you. I never made it to the gym. Was too busy at work and had a hair appointment right after and by 8pm when I got home I was just too tired. I got up this morning and walked the dog. And laid my cloths out. Hope to get a run in outside in the sun today. Let me know if you made it out. Do you run???

Hi there,
I'm up for joining the challenge. It will be my first:) I need to lose 10 pounds by Christmas or else I have to clean my friend's oven. Cleaning the oven is my most hated chore and I want to avoid it 'cause I'll have to do 2 ovens if she loses and I don't!

I have no excuse but being lazy. now I have only 6 weeks until Christmas. I have not lost any, but good news I have not gained any. I just feel tired all the time. I know the time change has been kicking my butt and I have been diagnoised with Fibromyalgia, but still I just need to get motivated. I have eaten good today, I have logged my food and my gym bag is in the car. LETS DO IT

UUUGHHHH! Bad knee last week and feeling a little sabotaged on my goal. I started working out again finally today after the chiro worked some magic last night. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard. No weightloss since injury but not much gain either so that's good. I hope everyone is having a great day!

Ok feeling very bad! I got on the scale this am and it showed 170!?! A 4 lb gain. I did the treadmill 5 days for 45 min. and weight training 2 days and had a + calorie burn for the week. Then my 16yo son says, "something is wrong with the scale. I weighed 135 yesterday and 142 today." So I sort of felt better but not really. There is no way, other than female stuff, that I gained 4 lbs. Hopefully next weigh in will show a loss. Fingers crossed because I upped my cardio today.

I wish there was a secret to share! I really don't know why I am losing weight like I am, when I have worked so much harder before and not lost anything!

I have been active on this board and doing the monthly 5 pound challenges.

Here is what I am doing:
- walking 1 hour a day (about 4 miles), on my road which is hilly. Intervals, tracking my heart rate.
- a few strength exercises, mostly abs and upper body

I am not counting calories, have never been able to do that. I am just careful/thoughtful about what I eat. I have cut my portion sizes down quite a bit. I still eat pizza and desserts, just very moderately and not often! I will have a two-bite taste of a dessert instead of a whole piece. I never drink sodas at all, don't like them. Usually drink water, occasionally milk or juice.

I think, for me, I didn't lose before because I was working too hard, spending hours at the gym and ended up starving. I have friends who have invited me to run with them, but walking is working for me without increasing my appetite, so I haven't gone.

My husband has lost about the same amount of weight as I have, but hasn't been watching his food as much as I have or exercising. I know for us, I ate healthier than he did anyway, so I have less big changes that I can make.

If this competition is stressing you out this much already, it might not be a good motivator for you. Maybe instead of the same pound goal, you could set a percentage (as the show the Biggest Loser does) of weight loss to work towards, or the one with the biggest percentage lost?

Ok, sorry to have written a book. Hope something here is helpful. Please don't stress so much over this, it will only make it harder for you! Enjoy the process of getting there and celebrate your victories! Good luck!

Could you share you secret with me. I really want to loose 16 pounds by Christmas, but more than that, I want to win the bet between my husband and I. The weight is just melting off him. I'm scared to weigh because I don't want to be discouraged. I just started on Monday 2nd so I don't have to weigh in until the 9th. Sure could use any ideas you have on getting my weight to melt off like my husbands is.

Still staying forcused. My husband is loosing weight like no other. He just started Monday 2nd and has already lost 4 pounds. Seems so unfair that men can loose weight so easy. He doesn't even do any kind of workout. I'm doing the elliptical, weights and walking with our kids. Don't get me wrong I'm glad he's doing it. I just wish it was that easy for me. We have a bet going and so far he is obviously winning. Who ever looses 25 pounds first get to go on the trip of their choice.
If anyone has any suggestions on how I can do this better, I'm all ears.

I am starting over on this challenge - five pounds HEAVIER than I was at the start of October. This is pathetic. Since I'm pretty sure that I know what got to me (new job, orchestra rehearsals, regular soda and Halloween candy), I feel fairly confident that I can turn things around. My new goal is to lose 15 lbs. by Christmas, which will get me to 172. Not fantastic, but it's a start. I'm also going to put my scale away for the next month, and see if it helps me keep from getting obsessive about the numbers, so I won't be posting my weight every week. I will, however, check in with everyone here, and post the number of days during the week that I exercised and met my calorie goals. Sorry to write a novel here! Good luck to everyone!

I just found this site today and I'm so excited. I would like to be down 16 pounds also by Christmas. I know it's a big goal, but I've always been told it's healthy to loose 2 pounds a week so... Christmas is about 8 weeks away thus the 16 pounds. However I have a total of 32 pounds to reach my actual goal.

I recently lost 20 pounds but have not lost any wt. in about 6 weeks! I'm training for a half marathon and have many other goals now that I consider myself an athlete. My original goal that I set this summer was 140# by Christmas but right now I am at 165# so I've re-evaluated my goal to 150# by Christmas. I've decided it's best to change things, be grateful for what I've accomplished and keep focused than to worry about not actually getting to 140#. My weigh in days is Wed so I'll update my wt. then!

You can definitely do this! Just take it one day at a time and try to get the exercise in as much as you can. I started my "weight loss journey" about a year and a half after my little one was born. The motivator for me was seeing a picture of myself with my Grandmother, mother and my girls. I looked bigger than everyone else. I took that photo and taped it to the fridge.

You'll do great. This is a great resource.

Hi All! I have been checking this thread out for about a week now and I'm still so excited about it. I like the idea of checking in every week to keep me on track too. I really want to achieve this goal. It would be one of the best gifts I could give myself. As a mom its very easy to always put yourself last. I think by making our lives a priority, we will ultimately be better role models to our children.

This sounds like a great challenge to try and achieve...count me in! This site looks great! It might just be what I've been looking for to help keep me motivated. I need someone to be accountable too, not just myself. That never seems to work for me anymore. It use to, but not anymore. I'm not sure if I'll ever hit my 125 goal, the least I've been in the last several years was 135 but we'll see. I was happy at 135 but wanted to see if I could get down a little more. Its funny that you say compulsive weigher, I am the same way. I'll weigh myself in the morning and at night, after a workout... I've been battling the same one step forward, two steps back on the scale as well. I lost 5% body fat from last year and my overall measurements are smaller but lets face it, those scale numbers are the big motivator.

This is such a great site. I've really been trying to utilize it to its fullest potential.

I love this site too. I get so much motivation. I've been losing and gaining the same two pounds for a few weeks now but I realized something. It was on my belt that I've had for years now. I'm on the skinniest hole and its gotten loose. It helps me to keep the number on the scale thing in perspective, which isnt easier because I am a compulsive weigher. Either of you dreading thanksgiving like I am?

Thanks WYTRANSPLANT for the support. It's so hard to remember to keep things in perspective when those numbers aren't moving. You reminded me that I really need to take my measurments. I never have kept track and I think that might be beneficial. Hope you're doing well.

I'm working hard for this, Spokane! Nothing better than a friendly challenge to rev up your motivation! I'm eating clean, drinking water like it's going out of style, and sweating my butt off on the treadmill. Oh, and ensuring a good 8 hour sleep every night. I love this site!

LTACK1, Im not seeing the scale move either but I do feel that my endurance w/ my workouts is improving. Im going to do my monthly measurements at the end of the week and hope to see improvements there. I know it can be frustrating. Great job w/ mtg your fitness goals!!!

wow good job. I started Sept. 25 and wanted to lose 30 before Christmas and have failed that. Just no motivation. Then a customer came in my office the other day and I had to check her ID and I was like wow. She lost so much weight and I asked her how she did it and she said it was this web site. So I am really hoping it helps me get motivated. Today is day one. I too will make my goal 20 by Christmas. Thanks for the encouragement.

This morning I weighed 171.5. UGH!!!!

PHURTT,
I think it is possible. I have lost almost 20 in 2 months (August to now).

Personally, I don't think I could do it over the holidays. Too many sweets and treats tempting me! But, I have kids around and the expectation that I will make/bring favorites to family get-togethers. I am trying to plan ahead for that now so I don't struggle with it later!

My original goal was to lose 20 pounds by Christmas, which would put me at 155. I have lost 18 pounds so far.
Wondering if I should boost my goal for another 10 by Christmas, or work hard to maintain what I have lost and start working hard again in January. The candy and treats of Halloween and Christmas always get me!
