Since I have been having daily gelatin and effectively an anti-inflammatory restricted diet, I now find that there is little effect of nuts on my psoriasis. This is nowhere as inflamed as it was previously.

I agree with snacking on nuts is not so good of an idea, but adding them to salads etc.. is wonderful.

Nuts are high in unsaturated fats which are good for your heart. Nuts are a good source of vitamins and minerals. Although each type of nut has specific vitamin and mineral contents, all nuts are high in protein, fiber, vitamin E, magnesium, copper and folic acid.

They are also are rich in antioxidant phytochemicals plant chemicals that have protective or disease preventive properties, and its well-known that these chemicals help to protect humans against diseases.

I especially love almonds and walnuts.

Hi rkottek, no I don't. Yikes, that would really put a crimp in my eating plan! I sometimes think that peanuts contribute to migraines if I have a lot of them, but I'm not at all certain. The pine nuts and hemp seeds seem to agree with me quite well.

Sorry to hear those don't work for persons with dermatitis and/or psoriasis. Seeds, nuts, legumes and beans are basics for many of us, in getting our protein on a vegetarian (or flex) diet.

I take it you dont suffer from either dermatitis or psoriasis.

seeds ,nuts, legumes and beans are high in Nickel which is the most common metal allergen and is implicated in conditions such as these.

Oooh, that's a wonderful snack idea!

For my late night snack I almost always eat an apple.

I rarely want a snack during the day, but when I do I usually grab a banana, a granola bar or a hard boiled egg. Something simple that doesn't require preparation.

Hi Kaligirl, it's good to see you here!

I've been eating canned, organic, refried black beans as my only bean source, but I don't feel like eating them every day. My problem is that the texture of beans creeps me out. I don't know why, but refried/mashed is the only way I seem to like them. I like the slow cooker idea, though. I've been thinking of trying some dishes in my slow cooker and then lightly smashing them with a potato masher to get rid of that "bean-ness."

For protein I love putting pine nuts on a salad, or hulled hemp seeds on, well, just about anything! I put them in sandwiches, sprinkled on salad, in my pasta, on a refried bean tortilla ... anything really. The key to nuts and seeds is to put them on other food, rather than eat them as a snack. Snacking on them, one tends to eat too much of them, and they're high calorie, but have healthy fats in them. In moderation they're a wonderful protein source.

My goal is to get more beans into my diet, and to start walking.

I hate walking on suburban streets, so I'd like to start driving out to a nice park at least once a week for a moderate hike. Now that I've lost much of the weight I need to lose, my plantar fasciitis is no longer bothering me and I can get back on the trails. I just have to get over the inertia of not hiking for the last few years. It's especially hard in winter, and knowing that I don't have any friends nearby who walk at a pace I'm comfortable with. I have to get over that, and just hike alone, or be willing to walk slower than I like. Alas my dogs are too old to do several miles, so I've got no one pushing me to get out there.

Going by standards for people living more north of me the temperatures are probably perfect but for locals its a bit chilly to go swimming. I've done it this time of year before and you quickly get used to it but its a little chillier than usual.

Having struggles but trying to work through them. Walked extra yesterday to make up for not doing the treadmill. I have been tracking food even when I know it is not good food. Keeping it real and transparent!! emoticon

I am usually too superstitious to post my weights as I find that the day after my weight goes up.
I then have to dedouble my efforts to eliminate the unwanted gain plus try to achieve further weight reduction.
