I love tis time of year. favorite ingredients are any fresh fruit or vegetable. I use these ingredients to flavor up anything. Like this morning I had blueberries, strawberries and blackberries with my yogurt and granola. any opportunity to add them to each meal is a challenge and a pleasant surprise.

I hope everybody has had a good week and is already for a fun filled weekend. It's warming up here in Toronto, and the streets are full of pedestrians and cyclists. I'm feeling energetic and looking forward to cooking some spring-inspired dishes over the weekend. What is your favourite spring ingredient? Mine is lemon - all things lemon! Plan on doing a roast chicken with baby potatoes and a lemon dessert for family on Saturday. What about you?

Congradulations Tessie! It is always so wonderful to have your efforts recognized. And what a great idea - here's my challenge to folks for the rest of the week - express some gratitude or recognition for a job well done to someone (whether it's a co-worker, family member, fellow sparker)- and let us know about it.

Glad it is something that can helped with exercises! Also a great motivation/inspiration.

Today we are having thunder storms and I'm motivated by the forces of nature. I love the sound of the rain especially when I have no where to go and I can just enjoy. I did my workout and then went to relax and read in the sunroom. Love the sound on the glass.

That sounds so wonderful! Thank you for sharing that. I posted in the general chat forum about finding out - finally - what is going on with my neck. I've been having pain and numbness in my neck/traps/left arm for about 2 months now. The pain has abated but the numbness and weakness not so much. My doctor finally gave me the results of my x-ray and I have slight disc and nerve compression in the C5-6 and C6-7 area. All in all, not bad when you consider the back problems that many live with. I can deal with this through exercise and modifying my posture. So today my inspiration is people who face serious injury and disability, and continue to be healthy, active and vital despite their limitations. Here's a great article about one such person... www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23708299/

Todays inspiration is the concessions that that my firends, family and co-workers make to encourage and support me as I try to lose weight and get healthier.

I love to run on the treadmill when it rains. The rhythm of the rain hitting the windows is soothing. I enjoy the smell so open the window and let my mind and body rejuvinate in my senses. I also like to pick a family friendly movie and all cuddle together in the family room with a fire. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sounds like we are all on the same page in being re-energized by the spring weather. Is it just me, or does spring make you feel a little bit like a kid again? Anyhow, its raining today - just fine with me, considering I have to be inside all day - and I am glad I made a big pot of soup on the weekend. The warm, comforting supper is already on my minid, sad considering its only 9:15. Rainy days can be comforting and a good excuse to slow down and take a break. One of my favourite activities on a rainy day is to pull out some recipe books and find some ideas for new things to try. What sort of things do you all get up to on rainy days? What sort of things do you do to slow life down a bit?

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

The beautiful weather here has, also, inspired me. We went to the farmer's market this afternoon. Tomorrow we are going to the tulip fest. Right now the race is inspiring me to go get on the recumbent bike and pedal hard.

I hope everyone is as excited about the weekend as I am - after a long winter, a mini-winter, and some chilly days to follow, it is now officially WARM outside. I am encouraging all of you to get in touch with your inner child this weekend and go fly a kite, ride a bike, play some hopscotch, play some shinny, walk a dog, plant some flowers, do whatever it takes to get outside and play in the sunshine! Have a super weekend, enjoy your friends and families, cook something yummy and see you all next week.

AHHHH. Remind me not to read funny stuff while drinking hot coffee. Sometimes, BabyJane, you just gotta roll with it! Happy Wednesday all. My day was off to a crappy start - frustration and numbskullery aplenty! Its all turned around, more or less, and that got me thinking about the constant struggle of knowing what to let get to you, and knowing what to let slide. What is that saying "Don't sweat the small stuff (and its all small stuff" - going to dedicate the rest of today to working on that... www.flickr.com/photos/miwaza/2316397

Thanks for all of the fabulous posts that appeared over the weekend. My inspiration today is slogging through the massive pile of work on my desk - looking forward to getting to the gym afterwards and then home to reheat some very yummy soup I made yesterday. I know its not too interesting, but what can you do... Somedays its all about surviving. Ciao and see you all tomorrow.

Fleurdelis Queen: I think that your suggestion to post with video reviews is a great idea and welcome you to initiate such a post - you can start a new topic in the general discussion area, and add links and comments to your hearts content! I myself don't own or use exercise videos, otherwise I would be happy to take the lead. Good luck.

Alright people, here's my last post before I start my computer-free weekend. For inspiration this weekend, I am thinking about my 99 1/2 year old grandmother. Holidays always put me in mind of family gatherings (not always in a good way) - and for years that meant family dinners with Grandma. What better way to inspire yourselves than to do what our grannies did - feed your loved ones, raise a glass with them, play with them and hope that they repay you by doing the dishes... Have a safe and happy Easter, Passover or whatever pagan fertility/spring rite you care to celebrate and see you next week.

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

One of the blogs I follow "Discombobulated" - is a non-linear collection of twitter-like updates, photos, links and oddities. Today's posting, without explanation, looks like the cover of book and says "Be Excellent to Each Other" (by Bill S. Preston, Esq. Bonus points for those of you who get the pop culture reference) - and that is my inspiration for the day - to be excellent to as many people as possible, and hope that a bit of it comes back my way. Starting with you - you've made amazing changes and shown courage, determination and stick-to-it-iveness in the 5 months since joining SP. Congradulations. You've shared your fears and frustrations in ways that inspire others around you. Thank you. Now go be excellent to each other... pichaus.com/excellent-@79dfa345af8fc

Thank you everybody! I just wasn't feeling up to par yesterday, sinus headache. Today is much better and still beautiful. The weather has inspired me today. I went for a walk outside midday and DH and I are about to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Love this weather! Unfortunately, it will only last one more day and then rain and cool temps will be back.

Babie Jane - I think that it can be difficult to admit when we are having a bad day, or week, or month, and I am glad that you told us about it. I have recently recovered from a neck/upper back injury that threw me off of my exercise routine, slowing down and erasing some of the progress it took me a year to achieve. I've had to struggle with what to do with this injury and the negative emotions triggered by seeming to lose ground despite how hard I've worked to lose weight and increase my health. The injury and resulting frustration are just as much a part of my story as the lost pounds and elation I've experienced. How to use negative experiences as inspiration can be less obvious than using positive experiences. One way can be to ask "What can I learn from this?" Another can be simply to admit "I am not feeling at my best today." By telling our friends, be they cyber-friends or otherwise, what we are going through opens us up to receiving their support and encouragement. And what can be more inspiring than that? Have a great day everyone. It is *gulp* snowing, which I am pretty sure ought to be illegal in April...

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

well what a wet way to start the weekend. What do folks have planned? The forecast looks particularly mediocre so it might be an indoor weekend. I'm an avid knitter, so my plans involve starting a new project. Here's a link to a picture: pinklemontwist.blogspot.com/2007/02/
ha
nami.html
The designer was inspired by Japanese textiles, and way that she has echoed cherry blossoms and falling petals just screams "Spring project" to me.
This is definitely the most ambitious project I've ever started. Lace work is not my forte, and I anticipate that this pattern will teach me a few things about patience, perseverance and humility :) What creative endeavours do others have on the go? How do you find your inspiration for them? How does being creative fit into your health and fitness goals? Happy weekend and see you all on Monday.

My inspiration today, is the scale...believe it or not. I went months and months, it seemed like years, seeing 169.5 on the scales. For the past month I have been seeing lower numbers, not a lot lower but lower. In fact, I haven't seen the dreaded 169.5 on the scale for close to 2 weeks now. I am starting April off at 165.5. emoticon

I find myself thinking about what the onset of spring meant to me as a child - the wish for a new skipping rope, the desperate ache to toss aside heavy clothing, playing outside after dinner for the first time in months, and dusting off the bicycle for another long summer of touring around the neighbourhood on two wheels. I took my long-neglected bike into a repair shop two weeks ago, and it is ready for me to pick up after work. My inner child and I are going for our first ride in a couple of years tonight, and I can hardly wait. What childhood memories of spring do others have? Is there a way you can reconnect with that youthful energy and joy to enrich your adult life?

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

Today is the first day of April, and appropriately enough, it is raining. Unlike winter rain, though, its a warm rain and I'm pretty sure I saw a robin hopping around looking for worms on my way to work this morning. I am inspired by rain, by the renewal and rebirth that spring rains bring, and by the opportunity spring provides us to recommit to our selves and our loved ones as we work towards health and fitness. Here's a little spring for the rest of you... www.flickr.com/photos/sarahbelle1/48

I am not sure what everybody else's financial situation is these days, but there are lots of people going through hard times. My own job future is quite uncertain and I am fighting (and winning) the battle against allowing fear to overwhelm me. Here is a link to a great article on coping with fear that I hope others will appreciate. You can cut and paste the url into your browser to find the full article.

The April Challenge is a bit unusual. There are lots of ways to track, and plenty of places to discuss, food and exercise on SparkPeople, but not as many opportunities to talk about what and who inspire us - whether its to get started or keep going, how do you do it? Share a story or a link or an idea about keeping the fires burning. As spring settles in, let's renew our energy and committment together! Check in once a week or more to spark each other on...
