well good luck and enjoy, hope everything goes well and I like the idea of enjoying the ride. I think we miss so much when we focus on the end and not the whole event

Cute! I'm doing my first Olympic Distance a week from Sunday. I plan on taking my time and enjoying the ride! New distances should be about setting a reasonable benchmark for yourself while learning the new venue. Enjoy the ride!

I can so relate to not wanting to come in last. But a story from the Pacific Crest Olympic last weekend:

My training partner and I had finished the race, had some food, played with the kids, sloooowwwwly walked to T2 to grab our bikes, and had just wheeled them across the road and to the bike path to slowly cruise them to our rented house in Sunriver. As we came around the corner directly out of T2 there was a woman, just starting her 10k. In checking our times the next morning, I glanced down the spreadsheet to the bottom. That woman finished in 6:30. That is a horribly long time, but I choked up when I saw that. She had finished. I probably wouldn't have--it probably hurt, and she must have been very hot, and perhaps lonely, and sick-and-tired of the whole event. But she finished. I think I am more proud of her than anyone else I saw that day (except the 65 year old man who was running the race 9 months after completing his chemo treatments. I cried many times that day thinking of him...am tearing up now.) My point is, I hope you know that you are part of a small, tough minority of people who would even take a triathlon on. I hope you know that no matter what your time on this race, as long as you feel good about it, you have won it! I figured that I had won my division last weekend: 37 year old mom's of two doing their third tri ever from Eugene, OR. You will win first place in your division this weekend too--just frame your division in a way that sets you up for success. So go out and have some fun. Good luck! Enjoy the process, and toast your win when you are done!

Best wishes! You'll do fine! Doubt you'll be last, but even if you are....everyone loves cheering for the last as well as the first. Looking forward to hearing how it went.

I am going to treat this as my training tri of the year. I have 3 scheduled this year with my "A" race being in September. The weather has been cold and rainy here in the Pacific Northwest this year... only finally getting over 70F after 296 days below that temp. So as you can imagine not a lot of open water swimming practice so far this year... as in NONE YET.

As much as I know I am going into this one as a training event I am worried about finishing last.

Luckily I have improved massively on my cycling since last year and my swim in the pool is doing great. I haven't done any running in months though because I have been dealing with a foot issue and I still don't like that part much.

I have plans for my family to come and cheer me on and be there at the finish for support. The weather looks like it is going to cooperate. and I am going early today to check out the course.

So it should be great.

race report to come late on Sunday!!
