I've been working on changing a tire and have yet to be able to complete the whole job by myself. My bike is newer and the tires are SO stiff....I have a really hard time getting the last of the inner tube in under the last bit of tire.

Ha - 2 minutes...I'm not there yet but I did just change one on Genny's front. It seems like every time I change one, I learn a new trick. This time I used my tire tool to hold the spot I started reinserting the tire and the other tire tool to slide around and pop in the tire - MUCH faster!

I've read that a good professional triathlete can change a tires in under 2 minutes from dismounting the bike to getting back on the road. This means that while their chances at victory are reduced, they are not completely out of the race. This is why you'll see most pro's and elite carrying spare tubes/tires (if tublulars) and CO2 inflators.

Hers' a link to Michelin's site on mounting a tire. Changing a tube is the same except 1/2 the tires stays on the rim.

One thing I learned, is that you want to start from the side opposite the valve.

Also, when mounting a new tires, try and remember to align the writting on the tire sidewall to the valve. This makes locating the source of a flat easier in the case of glass or other sharp stone or object that might still be embedded in a tire.
