I've been so busy, not to mention out of town, I hardly remember what I did! Saturday was 3.25 miles, thu-fri I was in tx, Wed was 3 miles, either mon or tue was 2.8... the rest is a blur!

July total miles: 30ish...

work doesn't look like it's going to let up, but I won't be traveling for 2 more weeks, so hopefully I can log as I go!

We are going camping tomorrow so I won't be online at all. No cell service, no internet service - ah, the joys of being disconnected! :) See you when we get back.

Have a great week.

Chloe and I went for a long hike on Saturday. It was going to be a hot day so we started at 5:00 in the morning. We hiked for about 10 miles - it was a nice temperature, but when we got back to the truck it was really heating up so I'm glad we went early. I carried so much water for both of us that my pack weighed 45 lbs. but I'm glad I had it because we used almost all of the water. Chloe did a good job and didn't have any trouble with the heat - I kept her watered up and found a couple of streams for her to play in to cool off too. It was a great day for us and a lot of fun. We are both so tired today though. We did get in 1.75 miles today - early and late in the day to avoid the 100 degree heat.

Total for July: 41.5 miles

Tonight I took the 3 dogs out for a mile and then I took big dog out for a run. Yes, you read right, a RUN! haven't done that in a minute...

So between that and riding my bike to & from work, I'm pretty darned pleased with myself.

it might not be a bad idea to call up the vet and ask that question before you take her. There's nothing worse than being miles from home and having to haul your dog back. Given the distance, the elevation and the lack of shade, it might be too much.

Gorgeous went on an 11 mile run with me last year that had a lot of hills and it was in the upper 80s. By the time we got to mile 8, we had to stop at a bus shelter for 10 minutes. A mile later we stopped at a vet clinic where she drank a tonne of water (and they fed her snacks)...and this despite the fact that I had water for her & she had waded around in a lake we passed... after 10 minutes cooled off in the a/c she was ready to run again. But she has black fur and it causes her to overheat quickly. Don't know what the ratio is of black fur to long blond fur for heat absorption :-)

Chloe and I got in another 4.5 miles in the last couple of days. Kind of a lazy Saturday this week.

I want to go on a hike next week, but the temps are going to be in the upper 90's. We'll be up high, but I think the temp up there will still be in the upper 80's. How hot is too hot to hike with a dog like Chloe (a golden retriever with a natural fur coat)? Hmm... I'll have to think about it. I don't want her to get heat stroke. There is only a little shade on the way up - lots of shade on top though.

Anyway,

Thanks!

By the time I get home from work and eat, often it is well after 8 p.m. so going out for another walk later in the evening doesn't really happen, as it is "later in the evening" already :-)

I really want to take them out in the morning again (I had stopped due to the fact that @ the time we were going they would bark at so many things it was causing me stress not to mention a serious noise disturbance - but I think that may be resolved now)... but I've been so tired lately that I can barely get up early enough for work, let alone almost an hour earlier. Here in the summer it can be so hot that it's not conducive to long walks unless it's night time - which isn't great for the dog park, beach or trails ;-) Guess I'm going to have to keep looking for that magic solution!

I do think I have to resume taking everyone out together and then the big dog for a 2nd walk - Ginger (who is almost 13) can't handle more than a mile or two at a time and big dog (who just turned 3) is becoming bigger dog because 1-2 miles is barely a stretch for her!

Anyway, last night we walked 1.1 miles.

Good job of reaching 30 miles! I think my schedule is more conducive to a lot of miles with my dog. In the summer, I go on long hikes too which adds a bit.
We just did 1 mile on Th., Fr. Sun. and Mon. for 4 miles, but we went on a long hike on Saturday of 9.5 miles (it was the most beautiful day - cool and sunny!).

That sounds like an awesome hike!! and you went gangbusters on mileage!! woohoo!

On Wednesday I took the dogs out for a couple of miles, pushing us to the 30 mile mark, so I reached that monthly goal!

For July so far... We did a half mile on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me remember what I did Thursday. sheesh.

So I'll just put down 1 mile so far.

In the last 5 days of June, we went on a BIG hike (about 8 miles) and mostly 1 or 1.5 miles the other days. Both of us were really tired after the hike. It was in a canyon that is very steep, but we made it to the top OK - found some snow to play in around some shady parts up at about 9000 ft.

The final total for June: 50 miles.

I got the dogs out Wed a.m. as planned for a quick .25 mile walk (literally around the block) but it's better than nothing. Thursday I was delayed several hours back and didn't get home till very late, so no walk as I previously thought.

I can't for the life of me remember if I walked the dogs Friday. Friday was very stressful trying to catch up on all the office stuff & then having to deal with one of my best friends being terminated. bleh. So that's a blur. Saturday I totaled 3.75 miles in 2 walks - one with the 3 kids & 1 with big dog.

Good for you. After doing that much exercise it's hard to take the dogs out - good job for doing it anyway. Consistency is so important. I get lots of walking done just by being consistent and getting out once in the early morning, once when I get home from work and then at least 1 more time before bed (after it cools down). Today we managed 1.5 miles

Tomorrow & Thursday I'm in NY (I'll literally be on the ground less than 24 hours.. fun) but I'm hoping to get a quickie walk in the morning before the flight. For sure on Thursday I'll be able to take them as I don't get back too late! We're not going super far, but at least I'm being more consistent!!

Made it out for 3 walks today - 2 of 0.5 miles and 1 of 1 mile for 2 miles total today. We typically go out for a 1/2 mile walk every morning around 5 AM, then another one at around 9 PM. I try to take her for longer walks when I get home from work at 5:30 PM.

Last night we went for 1.8 miles... which was probably .5 mile too much for Ginger. She lallygagged the last bit so we took breaks every few corners and I massaged her thighs a bit. *BUT* I didn't have to carry her, which I think she was also pleased about (it's a pride thing :-D)

Oh Gorgeous had that once... a dog with pink eye... did they do the test with the liquid that made her eye glow green? Gorgeous looked like an alien!! :-)

I totally slacked yesterday. No excuse. Just lazy.

Today we did 1.45 miles, the lot of us. Ginger was very spry and ready to herd all sorts of cars! She spent the first 3 blocks barking at traffic! I figure she's 12.5, she's earned the right to bark at traffic. I've also taught Gorgeous to sit and wait for her brother & sister to go thru the door before entering or exiting, as she has a tendency to bowl them over and Ginger gets knocked down easily these days.

So all in all, fun with fur! :-D

your spring sounds like our winter... spring has been weird everywhere! We were still having rain (and not a sprinkle either) at the end of May, which is pretty much unheard of for California. Normally the rain ends in late April and doesn't make a reappearance till October. Then last week the temps shot up and by this past weekend we were in the 90s. It was so hot this weekend, I didn't walk the dogs.
Poor Ginger was panting heavily just lying on the floor...

but on Friday I did go for a 3 mile walk with the big dog.

At least the temps have evened out and we're back in the 70s now (which is far more civilised...) so it'll be back to the normal pooch walking!

Good for you - going out even when it's late.
I just realized that I haven't recorded my walks for a few days. We've been very regular with our daily walks - about 1.5 to 2.5 miles per day. Today we went 2.5 miles because we finally got a nice day. It's been so rainy and cold. Our spring has been very wet and we've had a lot of flooding problems with the streams that come down out of the mountains into the valley. We even had about 6" or so on our State Street which is in the middle of town. :(

Tonight I took big girl for 3 miles around the lake with my walking partner & when I came home, I took the 3 dogs out for another mile.

I didn't have time to take the little ones out before the lake walk, so I was really proud that I didn't flake out on them when I came back!

Good article - I owe a lot of my weight maintenance and better health to an active dog that keeps me active. Even on days that I choose not to do my regular exercise routine, I'm out walking with my dog because she needs it as much as I do and we have a lot of fun together.
We walked 4 miles in the last three days since I last reported. Tonight I did 1.5 miles with 2 dogs. My Chloe and my daughter's little black poodle. It was quite an adventure with the two of them, but it worked out great!

Good job on getting right back in the swing of things with Chloe!

Took all 3 dogs for a mile and then took big dog to the lake with my new walking partner for another 3 miles.

NO! He is very cute! :)
I will be writing a blog about it soon. I've just been recovering from a 25 hour drive with only 3 hours of sleep where I did all of the driving.

We walked 1 mile yesterday and today.

So does your grandson look like a cute drunk old man? :-D

Took the kids out yesterday morning for a .5 mile jaunt. Ginger seemed much more spry - I'm starting to think she wasn't getting all her thyroid and joint meds while I was gone.

I got a call on Monday morning from my son letting me know that he was in the hospital with his wife and the baby was coming! Yeah - our 6th grandchild! So my wife and I packed up and headed to Illinois.
We have a new grandson! :) That's #6 for us.
We weren't able to bring Chloe, so I won't be walking her the rest of May (back on June 1) :(

I did take her out for a 1/2 mile walk before we left.

Final May Miles: 36

Took my grandson and Chloe out for a hike yesterday. We hiked for 5 miles in the mountains, then I walked another 2.5 miles with just Chloe and me around the neighborhood for a total of 7.5 miles yesterday. Chloe is so tired today and so am I, but feeling great with my first hike of the season.

Well I've discovered the secret to keeping Ginger looking lively - walk the busy streets! The passing cars keep the herder in her very motivated!

We managed 2 miles today at a pretty good pace - I'm very proud of my puffy girl!

You can also map your route right in Spark People by going to your myfitness page and clicking on the Map Route button. I think it uses google maps to map it, but I've found it to be very valuable and accurate.

You guys do know that on the fitness tracker you can map your route and it'll give you mileage, right? It's similar to the www.gmap-pedometer.com site

Anyway - Saturday and today consisted of sleeping. Sunday I did 3 miles with el pooch

We had a pretty lazy day Sunday - played out in the yard a lot, but not much walking. Today Chloe and I walked about 3 miles total.
We met a cat on our walk and Chloe tried to rush to it and almost took my arm off that was holding her leash! Gotta teach her to stop doing that :)

I haven't kept track of mileage because I am not sure how long our usual "loop" of the neighborhood is....I will drive it today and see. We've done real well this weekend....I think my son and I walked the dogs Fri, Sat, and Sun!!! Good for us, and them!

Jazz, Lizzy and I decided to go on a hike. Or at least a baby hike. spent almost an hour walking the neighborhood. Nice breeze, lots of shady areas.

Good day today.

We didn't do much on Friday, but got in some good walks today. It was a very nice day here - sunny and about 69 F. We went walking at noon and came back and Chloe played in the little pool we have for her - she had a blast and got soaking wet which was the idea!

Well I fulfill my Gingerly duty and took everyone out for 1.25 mile. The first .5 mile was barely a stroll but once we got to a busy street, Miss Ginger was storming around trying to chase cars. Apparently it's all about motivation now!

Just realized I haven't posted since Monday - sorry - I have been walking and keeping track.
OK so Tuesday we did 2 miles and Wednesday we did 3 miles and today we did 1 mile for a total of 6 miles since Monday.

Chloe absolutely loves the rain and insists on her walks no matter what the weather. :) So we go out in any kind of weather - snow, rain, sleet or sunny, which is good because it keeps me active. Lately, it's the only exercise I get because I've been so lazy in the morning.

Sorry to hear that Ginger is slowing down. There are days when I wish Chloe would slow down, but really, I can wait - she's so full of life and energy that it helps keep me young too.

May Total: 19 miles

I took Gorgeous and Buster to the vet yesterday - everyone is well, although Gorgeous needs to lose a few pounds.

How annoying is this - Buster, the only boy in the house, is the only one who's not overweight, but all the girls have a few pounds to lose! arg!

Anyway, no walks last night, but definitely back on tonight.

I spoke to the vet about how much Ginger was slowing down and she told me to be sure to walk her for as long as she could go daily, to keep up her leg muscles! So if I'm not posting daily, feel free to kick my rump on Ginger's behalf! :-)

Ah yes, that's one of the 'side effects' of having a dog (or 2 or 3) - you get more activity and that can be a big help in maintaining or losing weight. :)

We went out for 2.5 miles today.

My dogs and are sty pretty stable in our walking habits which is nice.

The nicer thing I noticed is that I am beginning to drop weight again. Winter is my hibernation time and now that the days are longer I get the opportunity to be out more and walk longer with them. I am not dropping much, but each week now it has been at the least a half pound.

Good girl sandra good girl. lol

Nice to see ya'all getting out. No problem if you don't track miles - I'm just a crazy numbers guy and I have a pedometer that tracks for me, so I keep the numbers.
Chloe and I had a big day walking/running for 4.5 miles. It was a beautiful, sunny and 70 degree day. So nice after so many cold, rainy, snowy days.

Not bad the last three days.
I don't keep exacts but Wednesday was two 25 minute walks. Thursday 3- 20 minute walks and Friday was two 30 minute walks.

Lizzy is small, 6 pounds and has two speeds top speed and dead on her feet. So I take my cues from her. Jazzy could go walking for hours if I could keep up with him.

OK, I'm in starting now. Chloe and I had several nice walks today for a total of 2 miles.
Today, FINALLY, was a very nice spring day. :)
We've had a whole lot of rain and snow in the last month.

Get your dog & your walking shoes!

For May (or at least the remaining 26 days), let's aim to walk 30 miles with the puppy (or puppies, in my case).
