I am glad that the BRAT diet is working. I sometimes have to use it myself.

I'm glad you feel better. I've had food poisioning and nausea a lot lately. Some times I just can't keep food down. Even "safe"foods like rice can trigger it, but I can eat chicken. I don't know.. my body is just weird.

Hi all --

thanks for all the good words. I am on lithium, and after discussing with my doctor, I'm down to half my normal dose until my guts get back to normal. Then, easing back into my usual suspects. :). In early February I ended up with food poisoning, dehydration, and some sort of salt poisoning. Note -- this is not entertaining at all, especially when traveling. ICK!!

BRAT has been key. Thanks for recommending. I've been rolling it since Saturday, so I'm hip g by tomorrow evening to add a "new" protien.

On the upside, salmonella is a "great" way to lose 5 pounds real quick. LOL!! Seriously, I'd like to take it as a jumping point though.

Healthy evening-
SDM

IF you can keep it down...

When my young son was being tested for allergies as he had constant diarrhea, they had him eat that diet. Ends up he was allergic to cow's milk as he had been breastfeeding for a year so he'd never had it!

When I get like that, one of my doctor's a long time ago told me to do the BRAT diet. BRAT stands for banana, rice, apple sauce, and tea. It really works.

I came back from Cabo w/SERIOUS diarrhea & couldn't keep anything in me; even trying to drink Sprite sent me to the bathroom & my stomach into cramps. Got very weak - couldn't shower, etc. This went on for 5 days before I called my doc.

Called my internal med doc & she said to go to the ER immediately & that I was seriously dehydrated & there was no way for me to rectify it but get IVs. Funny - I spent 3 hours shaving my legs, washing my hair, etc. before I went as I hadn't showered due to being so sick & I had to keep getting out of tub & resting on the bathroom floor as I was so weak.

Finally drove myself to ER. They immediately put me on IVS & added morphine to calm the cramps. Within an hour those horrible cramps had been soothed. They asked who brought me & I said I drove myself since my husband had an important meeting at work. They were appalled that I drove in my weakened condition & said that my husband had an important meeting in the ER & called him to come on over. In fairness I never even called him to tell him what was going on.

But dehydration can be very dangerous, esp. If you are taking Lithium. It will build up your dose to toxic levels; call your doc immediately, please!

Hi BPers,

I usually just hover here.

Anyways, I've have serious good poisoning for like 3 days. I've missed one day of meds. So I'm mostly ok there (I have a call into my doc).

Does anyone have suggestions of things to eat/drink to mellow a tummy and keep my brain mellow? =). I've been eating white rice, hot tea with honey, water, applesauce, and bananas. Oh, and one egg a day.

Any suggestion is a good suggestion at this point
Thanks all!
SDM

ps: I forgot to menton I'm mostly gluten-free and dairy-free.
